Wrong entry

[edit]

This was wrong. San Bernardino is the largest county in California and also in the United States. Binksternet (talk) 23:50, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's really semantic. In urban contexts, "largest" usually refers to "most populous," but I'm glad you deleted this ambiguous parameter altogether. Castncoot (talk) 04:17, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New York City

[edit]

"Attention: specifically Nikkimaria: I politely ask, can you please leave this section alone, which perhaps of all sections defines NYC's very identity? Kindly I beg you to let Chronus and me deal with this section. We both compromised to leave as is. Do you even realize that you wiped out the entire gigantic Latin American presence from this section? I have zero confidence in your ability to edit this critical section. My sincere apologies" is a very condescending edit summary, highly suggestive of WP:OWNERSHIP. Please familiarise yourself with the policy. Seasider53 (talk) 06:48, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A second and final warning, in particular for the personal attack here: Special:MobileDiff/1190477111 Seasider53 (talk) 12:13, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Seasider53, this uncooperative behavior has been ongoing for several months. Should I post at WP:ANI about this? CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 15:29, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I’d recommend it. I believe there was an additional warning on their talk page about this that they removed. Seasider53 (talk) 15:38, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WP:POINT

[edit]

This WP:POINT violation seems markedly ill-considered given that you have an open discussion at ANI regarding behavioral problems already. Will you self-revert, or should I present it as evidence that your commitment to heed the warning there was disingenuous? VQuakr (talk) 06:26, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

VQuakr: I have no idea what you are talking about? Can you please elaborate? What exactly have I done wrong? (And I'm sorry but I don't remember ever encountering you before.) I have made only gf edits and I certainly don't mean to have done anything wrong. I respectfully disagree with whatever point you are trying to make because my conscience says I'm trying to be constructive. Castncoot (talk)
I linked the diff above, so there can be no doubt what I'm talking about. As a reminder competence is required to edit so if your claim is that nonsense like Am I sensing the beginnings of a breathtaking discussion here between several of us that could be a game changer to alter the face of Wikipedia forever? was done in good faith then we still have issues. I've closed the RFC; it's difficult the overstate the thinness of the ice on which you're skating here. VQuakr (talk) 17:06, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you would like to engage in a constructive, civil, and friendly discussion here, I'm happy to oblige. Castncoot (talk) 18:24, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah that's what we're doing. Maybe not friendly since this is a behavioral intervention, but not unfriendly either. VQuakr (talk) 19:00, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Your comments above strike me as borderline cruel and threatening. I certainly would have been more tactful on someone else's talk page. Sounds like you might have some issues to work on yourself as well, just like I definitely need to work on my impatience in editing. Nobody's perfect. But I also know that in YOUR mind you think you're doing the right thing to improve the encyclopedia. I get it. I'm sure there was no sinister or conspiratorial motive behind your comments. Similarly, you should understand that in MY mind, I am trying to better the whole project. Different styles for different folks. Castncoot (talk) 21:12, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There is absolutely nothing wrong in bringing up an RfC on a Talk page, even it might be to revisit an old issue that may have potentially been hashed in the past under different circumstances. Who keeps track of everything? There's a process in Wikipedia that we all rely upon that generally works well. I question your decision to have closed the RfC prematurely when there may have emerged new, fresh comments along the same vein that have now been silenced. But you closed it, and that's that. Castncoot (talk) 21:12, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia can find a fault with any statement or non-statement or action or non-action. Sometimes to the point of absurdity. The vast majority of edits are made on a whim, mine certainly are. Some people really need to lighten up. Castncoot (talk) 21:12, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And finally, regarding my competence, I've been editing the project for over a decade and with over 50K edits and have been thanked for many of my edits. So I must be doing something right. Enjoy your weekend. Castncoot (talk) 21:12, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Just curious, are you a new editor here? You seem like someone with much more editing experience than someone who's only been editing Wikipedia as a registered user for less than one one month. Welcome anyway. Castncoot (talk) 23:53, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'm a new editor. I just made a strong effort to peruse the rules of wikipedia and I tend to see the page histories (and the edit summaries) before making my edits because they give me an idea regarding any prior edit wars on that page. daruda (talk) 09:24, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Castncoot (talk) 15:54, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Maps of North America? Earth?!?!

[edit]

As in this edit, it truly strains credulity that readers need to know where Edison, New Jersey, is located in the North American continent and that the map of the United States is insufficient. It is very hard to believe that any reader would need to know where the township is located on the planet Earth or that any editor would think that they would need this information, let alone to do so without laughing out loud.

If you seriously believe that the continent or planet should be included in articles, please start an RfC and obtain broader consensus for this nationwide, rather than doing this piecemeal, article by article, for places in New Jersey. Alansohn (talk) 04:18, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of LI,NY

[edit]

A tag has been placed on LI,NY requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello there. I don't understand why you moved Dunellen station. The previous name is unambiguous and in line with WP:USSTATIONS. Mackensen (talk) 22:27, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
