Welcome

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate encyclopedic contributions, but some of your recent contributions seem to be advertising or for promotional purposes. Wikipedia does not allow advertising in articles. For more information on this, see

If you still have questions, there is a new contributor's help page, or you can write {{helpme}} below this message along with a question and someone will be along to answer it shortly. You may also find the following pages useful for a general introduction to Wikipedia.

I hope you enjoy editing Wikipedia! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Feel free to write a note on the bottom of my talk page if you want to get in touch with me. Again, welcome! --Lijnema 21:07, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in Chester. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. --Lijnema 21:22, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in Chester. It is considered spamming, and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising. Thanks. --Lijnema 09:41, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Boughton.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Boughton.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 02:54, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see you have been making good additions to the Chester entry, and I wondered whether you might be interested in joining the Cheshire WikiProject? We have just formed, and are busy sorting out what jobs need doing. We have also started on some of the more pressing tasks. These are being discussed on the project's talk page. Please feel free to join and to contribute if you feel able to.  DDStretch  (talk) 23:05, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Saxoncrosses.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Saxoncrosses.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Citations and Providing references

[edit]

Your recent contribution(s) to Wikipedia are very much appreciated, particularly to those concerned with Cheshire and its history. However, you did not provide references or sources for your information. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a drive to improve the quality of Wikipedia by encouraging editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. If sources are left unreferenced, it may count as original research, which is not allowed. Can you provide in the article specific references to any books, articles, websites or other reliable sources that will allow people to verify the content in the article? You can use a citation method listed at inline citations that best suits each article. Thanks!  DDStretch  (talk) 23:29, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Boughton_Pipe.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. User:Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr) 00:12, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Walmoor Hill

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Walmoor Hill, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Fair use rationale for Image:Boughton Cemetery.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Boughton Cemetery.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 12:29, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly unfree Image:Ranulfhigden.JPG

[edit]

An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:Ranulfhigden.JPG, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the image description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. OsamaK 15:29, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Liverpoolmuseum.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

License tagging for File:Newtonhollows.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Newtonhollows.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 01:05, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:M56 mersey.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:M56 mersey.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ɔ ʃ 02:50, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Username and userpage

[edit]

Hi. You are probably aware that your name is problematic. A new user would be blocked for such a name, as it would be seen as a means to advertise your website, which is against the principles of the site. As you are a long standing user with some useful contributions, blocking seems inappropriate, though you do need to get your name changed. Please read Wikipedia:Changing username and then request a change of name - it's a simple matter, and is in the interests of keeping Wikipedia as neutral as possible. You also need to remove the advertising from your userpage. Wikipedia:User pages gives useful information. If you have any questions about this, please get in touch with me. Battle of Chester skull image

[edit]

Hi. I'm a little concerned about this image, which you uploaded. It's clearly a photograph of another photograph. Even if you are the copyright holder of this photograph, there may still be an infringement of copyright involved because of the content. I think you need to provide some evidence that the original photograph (including the text above it) is in the public domain. To be honest, if it is already in the public domain, then we should just use that original (your username implies you should be able to get hold of a copy). A picture of another picture on a monitor isn't really what we aspire to. So to summarise: either this picture isn't in the public domain, and should be removed, or it is in the public domain, and should be replaced by the original. Please confirm which it is. Thanks. garik (talk) 19:01, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I found that there's an alternative photo of this sign at File:Plaque commemorating LTC Rolt - geograph.org.uk - 678374.jpg. You may think it an improvement over yours (probably due to weather conditions). Maybe it'd be worth editing L. T. C. File:Thewantedchester.jpg missing description details

[edit]
Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as File:Thewantedchester.jpg is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors to make better use of the image, and it will be more informative for readers.

You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. File permission problem with File:Theswanllanfairtalhaiarn.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Theswanllanfairtalhaiarn.jpg, which you've sourced to www.chestertourist.com.

If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. November 2011

[edit]
Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company, organization, or clients. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 01:16, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Chesterstreet4.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Chesterstreet4.jpg, which you've sourced to http://www.chestertourist.com.

See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 01:22, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of automated file description generation

[edit]

Your upload of File:Conwywalls.JPG or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks!
