G12 decline- that's not how it works
[edit]I noticed you recently removed my G12 nomination from the Casa Consistorial de Tarazona article because " the source and the current article are not even in the same language". Please don't do this again. You might also want to read WP:NONENGPLAG before removing G12 tags in future. GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 06:42, 9 January 2024 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Bonus hole
[edit]Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, the introduction of inappropriate pages, such as Draft:Bonus hole, is considered vandalism and is prohibited. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges. Under section G3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, the page has been nominated for deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. microbiologyMarcus (petri dish·growths) 13:27, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
- @MicrobiologyMarcus: This was supposed to be a serious draft though. See Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2024 February 2#Bonus hole, which I closed as no consensus. Duckmather (talk) 13:48, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
- If that's the case, then using AfC to subvert the no consensus at RfD isn't proper. You should open a discussion on the draft DAB's talk page and notify everyone who participated in the RfD discussion and ask if the proposed DAB is better than the wikt outline currently in the mainspace. microbiologyMarcus (petri dish·growths) 13:39, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of LGBTP
[edit]A tag has been placed on LGBTP requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:
LGBT and Pedophilia are totally different.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.
If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. [edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Draft:Bonus hole, a page you have created yourself. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Contest this speedy deletion which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. microbiologyMarcus (petri dish·growths) 17:45, 19 February 2024 (UTC)

Removal of G5 speedy deletion tag
[edit]When you removed the G5 speedy deletion tag with an edit summary indicating "about a real person" were you aware that whether or not they are a real person is not the reason for G5? WP:G5 is for articles created by banned or blocked users, regardless of content. ☆ Bri (talk) 16:47, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Bri: I tend to think that articles should belong here on Wikipedia if they are about real people, regardless of whether they were sock-written or not, if someone is willing to salvage the articles anyways (and one admin, Tamzin, has said she roughly agrees with me in this respect). Duckmather (talk) 17:03, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
- As an administrator, I can confirm that "seems to be about a real person" is not a valid reason to remove a G5 tag. The purpose of G5 is to not encourage banned editors to continue evading their ban if they think their contributions will stick anyway. Especially Slowking4, this is a long-term abuse editor who spams poor-quality articles. Also, merely existing isn't a reason for having a Wikipedia article. If you disagree with the Speedy Deletion process, you should refrain from interacting with them or removing tags to force your own opinions that are against community consensus. Continuing to do so may be considered disruptive. The WordsmithTalk to me 22:52, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- I have the same question for Muthazhagu (TV series) which is part of a larger sock farm of UPE editors that have been bludgeoning Wikipedia. It is a slap in the face for those of us trying to enjoy our time here and clearing out the work of undisclosed paid editors who don't seem to get the point. The speedy request is for being created by blocked or banned user. Declining so would mean that they are NOT a banned user. --CNMall41 (talk) 19:35, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
- I realize you are not required to response, but hoping you can shed light on your reasoning for the decline. --CNMall41 (talk) 18:16, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you for your contributions. It seems that you may have added public domain content to one or more Wikipedia articles, such as Shuya, Ivanovo Oblast. You are welcome to import appropriate public domain content to articles, but in order to meet the Wikipedia guideline on plagiarism, such content must be fully attributed. This requires not only acknowledging the source, but acknowledging that the source is copied. There are several methods to do this described at Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Public-domain sources, including the usage of an attribution template. Please make sure that any public domain content you have already imported is fully attributed. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 20:34, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

- @J. Bauer: I'm not a Wikipedia admin; You need to ask at WP:RFPP.
- Also, I don't see how the IP edits are particularly disruptive? It's not like typical IP spam (blatant ads or random keysmashes). Duckmather (talk) 20:47, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

Wikisource
[edit]I'm considering writing a short article for the Signpost about contributing to (English) Wikisource, which I've been doing on and off since this January. Since you're another Wikipedian who recently joined that project, I wondered if you would like to say a few words about your experiences getting started on Wikisource (learning curve, pros, cons, anything really). No worries if you don't want to. Cheers, Cremastra (talk) 14:23, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Cremastra: Sure, why not. Duckmather (talk) 18:26, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
- You can go ahead and reply here, I'll incorporate your comments into the potential article. Thanks, Cremastra (talk) 19:57, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Cremastra: Here are some miscellaneous thoughts, in no particular order (I might stick a shortened version of this on my Wikisource user page later on):
- Each wiki is a huge time commitment. When I joined Wikidata last year, I got concerned about whether I could still keep up editing on Wikipedia; but now that I'm active on three wikis (Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikisource), my activity here on Wikipedia has dwindled a lot. (In particular, I've been focusing almost exclusively on redirects, dabs, and given name/surname lists, none of which require a lot of brainpower.) In fact, nowadays, my best work here (on articles like Indistinguishability obfuscation and Banking in Bhutan) is way in the past, back when I first joined in 2021.
- Wikisource in particular takes lots and lots of time. Even a single page can easily take 15 minutes to even an hour to proofread or validate (depending on how much text there is in it; and at least when I do it the way I usually do, which is retyping out the entire text from scratch and then diffing against either the OCR'd text or the previous version). Short 5-10 page pamphlets can take days or weeks, and entire books are unthinkable. Further, editing Wikisource requires a monomaniacal focus, unrivalled by either Wikipedia or Wikidata (except, perhaps, hardcore sourced content work here, which I admittedly do very rarely).
- Wikisource is also (like Wikidata, and the rest of the smaller Wikimedia wikis) hugely under-marketed. The impact of Wikipedia on daily life and pop culture can't be understated; however, the impact of Wikidata and Wikisource, however, is pretty much zero. I've heard of proposals to rename the "Wikimedia Foundation" to the "Wikipedia Foundation", and even though I don't agree with it, I can very much understand why they'd do so.
- Thoughts on Wikisource UI/UX (though if you know me, I'm no stranger to complaining about bad UI/UX in general):
- Desktop UI/UX is ok. In fact I edit (and read!) almost exclusively on desktop.
- The Wikisource mobile UI/UX sucks (on both iPad and iPhone; I don't use Android so I don't know about that). In particular, editing on mobile is close to impossible, with the two-column layout squeezing the wikitext so thin it's virtually unreadable. (I've been thinking about even making a Wikisource app, but firstly I'm not sure that's even worth it, and secondly despite my extensive coding experience I don't know a whit about app development in particular.)
- Relatedly, and mysteriously, the Monthly Challenge is completely gone on the mobile version of the Wikisource homepage.
- Uploading images is really hard. In fact, I've been even thinking about making an entire gadget just to reduce the process from ~50 clicks down to one (but that would also require me to study JavaScript, which I also sadly do not know). Just to illustrate how painful it is, here's my entire workflow:
- Download the PDF source (or if it's DjVu I try to look for a PDF equivalent);
- Extract one page using PDFsam and save it as a PDF.
- Use pdftoimage
.com /pdf-to-png to convert that one-page PDF into a PNG. - Crop the PNG to focus in on the illustration.
- Restore the image via onlinepngtools
.com or similar. - Upload the image via the Wikisource Image Uploader (which due to my eagerness I have somehow become the ~only user of).
- At last, transclude the image into the page.
- Also (usually) try to proofread the rest of the page via the retyping thing, just so I can save an edit.
- I might continue on with this a few days later. Sorry for being late; I'd been busy with schoolwork and such, and also this took me a lot of time to type out. Also, feel free to ask as many follow up questions as you wish!
- Duckmather (talk) 05:07, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- No worries, and thanks a lot! (Oh and by the way— I think the missing-monthly-challenge thing is due to the "enws-hide-on-mobile" class, which is apparently arbitrarily applied to some of the elements on the main page to compress it.) Cremastra (talk) 11:53, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Cremastra: Here are some miscellaneous thoughts, in no particular order (I might stick a shortened version of this on my Wikisource user page later on):

Speedy deletion nomination of Poast
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Poast requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Poast (2nd nomination). When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. [edit]The article Pilgrimage centres in Ernakulam district has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Only 1 item in this list is notable. Unreferenced and unimproved almost 15 years. No decent target for redirection.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Bearian (talk) 15:52, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
