Banh pho
[edit]This is the thing: the term can refer to the fairly thin noodles used in pho soup, but can also refer to the wider ones used for stir-frying. Right? Badagnani (talk) 05:58, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
OK, thanks for the info. In the Asian grocery store, one finds about 8 different widths of flat dried rice noodles, in clear plastic packages, made in Thailand. I didn't realize that they're all called phở. This should be made clear in the article. And I never heard of phở with very wide noodles. Regarding stir fried ones, Western people just don't know about that, because they think all phở should be in soup broth. Hence the reason why I think putting bánh phở under the "types of noodles" section would be beneficial. Badagnani (talk) 06:16, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
You said: "Hmm, some of them may be bún or miến though." Well, I'm not counting the very thin round vermicelli or the clear ones, just the 8 or so different widths of flat dried rice noodles from Thailand. Every store has this line.
For bánh phở, see how I did it. They're a type of noodle by material, then the dishes can be listed below. The soup, cold noodle dishes (bún thịt nướng), hot noodle dishes (bún xào - stir fried bun), and rolls can all be added. Proposal
[edit]I propose to separate into "types of noodles" and "noodle dishes," as Korean noodles is done. So, we can have a section for the various types of rice, wheat, bean, etc. noodles, and another section for the noodle soups and other noodle dishes. Badagnani (talk) 05:58, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

OK, it seems like the packages are made by Chinese (who are trying to be multilingual to make more money with all the ethnic groups who might buy the noodles), and they don't get the diacritics right much of the time, because they don't hire very good linguists in each language! I didn't know this. Perhaps there are two distinct varieties, then, the one we currently have in the lead being closer to the Cantonese Rice noodle roll. Otherwise I don't know how to explain it. The photo you added has many other ingredients featured and the banh cuon is way in the back, which is why I thought it wasn't the best to have at the top of the article.
