"...responsible for the Arm's display"  ? Clarify? Army's, ARM's, what? Not sure how to fix this (or even if it's required) but I can;t make sense of it as it stands. Pesky (talk) 10:02, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Yeh, it's a bit of a stodgy thing. He was part of the establishment at the Royal Artillery, which is a an arm of the Military. It does read confusingly - feel free to make it make sense as required. :D (thanks for taking the time!) --Errant (chat!) 10:06, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
I'll have a think about that one. Meanwhile (back at the ranch), you might find this a useful thing to keep a link to, from your user page or wherever else you store handy links. And may I suggest that you completely remove "And, so, .." from your vocabulary? ;P Pesky (talk) 11:03, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
Yup it's in my bookmarks. I usually dump-and-run, then come back to it with fresh eyes later. Or coerce a nice person into making it better. And, so, cheers Pesky ;) --Errant (chat!) 11:23, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
I've tweaked that about quite a bit; there are still quite a few improvements which could be made (including some snakey sentences which would benefit from being chopped up), but:
  1. I'm feeling lazy, and
  2. I feel that "it would be more constructively educational for you, and improve your long-term worth to the encyclopedia, for you to apply the contents of the aforementioned Removing Fluff exercise to the article yourself." Ummm. Hehe! Pesky (talk) 11:26, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
Yup, sounds good. I will get onto it :) Thanks again! --Errant (chat!) 11:29, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Violation of interaction ban

Please see enforcement request here. I have to say I'm very disappointed that you've let an absolutely blatant violation of the IBAN - on your own user talk page, no less! - go without comment. I would like to know why, since that sort of vigilante behaviour is exactly what the IBAN is supposed to have stopped. Prioryman (talk) 12:08, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

A good shake

Hi, just wanted to let you know that my favorite shake is vanilla! Cheers, Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:09, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

Seriously though; engaging in a shouting match on AN/I, over such a trivial matter, is just pointless. The fact you have to have a last word here is even worse. I mean that in a well-meaning fashion, but seriously. Sort out the socking thing and be done with it :) --Errant (chat!) 23:10, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, didn't really intend it to be a "last word", just wanted to indicate that I wasn't taking the whole thing very seriously. As for "sorting out" the socking thing, it's just not going to happen because CUs generally won't block an IP sock of an account for fear that they're breaking WP's privacy rules. I think that's a misplaced concern when the sock is of a very disruptive long-time sockmaster, but that's they way things are at the moment.

BTW, I think I responded in a very reasonable way to being dragged to AN/I. Anyway, I won't bother you agaun. Best, Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:19, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

ANI

Observation regarding your closing of the ANI discussion. I'm not sure that Darkness bringing the issue up at ANI is itself a violation of the IBAN, since TopGun DID in fact, type his name in a list. It could be said that it was a good faith request for oversight, even if you and I agree that TopGun's actions were not a violation. Technically, this is the right way to deal with the concern, since he couldn't address it on TopGun's talk page. And yes, you closed it just in the nick of time. If I'm mistaken, please feel free to correct me. Dennis Brown - © 14:01, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

Point taken, I tweaked my comment slightly. What I meant to imply is that collecting links of that sort on a broad indiscriminate scale & w/o commentary is fine. Given the very tenuous nature of the complaint I felt that it was something of a violation from DS because part of the intent of the IBAN is to bring about disengagement. --Errant (chat!) 14:10, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
I think your new version is perfectly proper. I just wanted to make sure we went the extra mile and assumed good faith in dealing with Darkness as well. He seems like a nice guy in his own way, but he is a bit of a trouble magnet. There is an MFD linked in that very ANI, Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:TopGun/Noticeboard references where I was a bit more blunt regarding my opinions on the list. I keep similar lists which are less neutral in tone but still proper. Dennis Brown - © 14:18, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
Yep, I'm in agreement with everything you said :) thanks for the prompt. --Errant (chat!) 06:49, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

WWI Editathon

Hi Tom,

Just to let you know we've finalised the list of academics who'll be attending the World War I editathon next month, along with their areas of specialisation. If any of these are topics you'd be particularly interested in collaborating on, or you want to suggest articles in those fields that need work, please do make a note on the page - it'd be great if we could have some suggested topics ready in advance.

Any questions, do let me know... Andrew Gray (talk) 13:51, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Smallcase convention

I haven't seen this used elsewhere on Wikipedia, including within the articles of the operations themselves. Just curious for more thoughts on this. While it may be convention in military documents, that does not necessarily translate to Wikipedia manual of style. -- ferret (talk) 14:27, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

Wider discussion might be useful, but it's a helpful convention and one that is used in all scholarly literature. The use of smallcaps is somewhat our own [recent] invention to make it less "in your face", I personally prefer it. --Errant (chat!) 14:29, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
