Question from Tyri Hansen (23:47, 26 December 2023)
Hey, Ferien:
My real name is Per Flaatten; I have logged in under a pen name, namely Tyri Hansen, which is completely fictitious; Tyrihans is the protagonist of a Norwegian a folktale of the same name. Tyrihans is basically, a male Cinderella, but the story is not as romantic as Cinderella's; rather, it's more of a comic mishap kind of thing. His reward, however, is the princess and half of the kingdom.
Anyway, I do not expect you to solve my problem, but how can I get help, since i can't even login. I have not found a category of communication, nor of role that can help, except for the name of the mentor (You!) assigned to my fake name.
I am Norwegian, but also fluent in English and French, I have a university degree and I'm 78 and retired.
In advance, thank you for ?any? help you may provide.
Per
PS It's too late yo wish you a Merry Christmas, but a Happy New Year is still appropriate. --Tyri Hansen (talk) 23:47, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
Hi Tyri Hansen, welcome! You messaged this to me on your account, as your first edit to Wikipedia, to my talk page, so you should be logged in? Happy new year to you too, and apologies for my somewhat late response. --Ferien (talk) 14:04, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

I would like to understand why I cannot upload an image of a public figure I found on the internet to enhance their page. Is there a way to use this image under the fair use policy?
Hi RajuGosling, welcome to Wikipedia. Most images you will find of public figures on the internet will be copyrighted and therefore cannot be uploaded here. Generally, you should only upload your own work. However, non-free content can be used under certain conditions, that can be seen at Wikipedia:Non-free content#Policy 2. From Simple English wiki
Hi Ferien!
I am copying and pasting the same message added to your talk page in Simple English wikipedia here too. The reason is that there are lots of related templates, found in Regular English wikipedia but lacking in Simple English wikipedia, which affect the appearance of the script in the desktop screen.
Could you please check the same following fonts?
Recently, I noticed a template that creates a difference between the appearance of Meitei script in desktop screen of people living outside Indian subcontinent. Could you please tell me which of the following are visible properly in your computer screen?
(1) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - plainly written without the template
(2) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written without the template but with double brackets
(3) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template, without double brackets, as Mtei
(4) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template as well as double brackets, as Mtei
(5) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template, with double brackets, but by lowering the letter "S" as "s", but with correct Meitei script code "Mtei", as Mtei
(6) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template as well as double brackets, but by lowering the letter "S" as "s", but with correct Meitei script code "Mtei", as Mtei
(7) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template without double brackets, but by lowering the letter "S" as "s", as well as wrong Meitei script code "mtei", as mtei
(8) ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯃꯌꯦꯛ - written with the template as well as double brackets, but by lowering the letter "S" as "s", as well as wrong Meitei script code "mtei", as mtei
They look the same on the right and the left, which is what I think you're hoping for. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:50, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

In Lynne Marta’s wikipedia it’s says she was an earwitness to Rebecca Shaffers death. Should it say eyewitness? --Chesca1911 (talk) 15:11, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
I spelled Schaffer wrong Chesca1911 (talk) 15:15, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
Hi @Chesca1911: welcome to Wikipedia! There is a difference between earwitness and eyewitness. If the sources say she was an eyewitness to her death then yes it should be changed, but if it is indeed earwitness then it should stay as it is, as that is what the sources say. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 19:53, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Question from HaydenUpson (03:48, 20 January 2024)
How do I find and fix articles that are marked as advertisements? --HaydenUpson (talk) 03:48, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
Hello HaydenUpson, welcome to Wikipedia! Sorry about the late response. Articles marked as advertisements are sent to Category:Articles with a promotional tone. The issues these article typically have are described at Template:Advert#When to use and in fixing these articles, you need to remove these issues. Please feel free to message again if you need any more help. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 17:43, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
hello, can you give me some feedback on my edits? thanks. --EvolvedLearner (talk) 00:17, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
Hi EvolvedLearner, welcome to Wikipedia! Your edits look good so far. I would just keep national varieties of English in mind, as one of the grammatical errors you fixed was actually correct in British English - but wouldn't be in American English. Hello, I'm trying to correct an edit made in this page with the "statistics" section. It originally included rankings of the tournament teams that have all been eliminated. However it was recently edited to omit this information, I'm looking for tips on how to re-edit this to include the original information as well as the updates on said rankings list --DomeWritePls (talk) 02:37, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
Hi there DomeWritePls, welcome to Wikipedia. Sorry for the late response. You can go to the history of the article to see when the information was removed, and find out why it was removed. You then may be able to revert it by using undo, although it's likely you'll have to copy the text directly. You can see which text has been removed by using the prev button on the history. I hope this helps, please let me know if you need any more help. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 18:52, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
Question from SYNTHWAVER MAN
Hi. Please check the article Tsz Shan Monastery because it says there is promotional content but i cannot find any. Thanks! SYNTHWAVER MAN (talk) 19:53, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
Hi SYNTHWAVER MAN, I think the Vision section of the article is slightly promotional with the way it is worded and layed out. It doesn't look as though this is covered in independent sources at all, so it could just be removed entirely. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 18:48, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
Ok. I will try to change it. SYNTHWAVER MAN (talk) 21:03, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi Ferien, I want to add a book (biography) to an article about my father in wikipedia. How do I create the heading "Books" ? Thanks Emmanuelle --Leeecco7 (talk) 21:19, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
In Source editor, there will be a drop-down called "Advanced". Click on it, and you'll see Heading as the first tab, with levels 2 to 5.
In Visual editor, there is a drop-down box with Paragraph set to default. Click on it, and choose the heading size you prefer.
After choosing, just write the title "Books" and you're good to go. Muonsneutrino (talk) 16:55, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi there, I am VERY new to all of this so please go easy on me! This is going to sound insane, but how would I format a date of birth when the month and day of birth is known, but the actual year is uncertain? The individual I'm working on was born on either November 14th, 1868 OR November 14th, 1875. My sources are conflicting, unfortunately. His marriage certificate states Nov. 14th, 1868, meanwhile his death certificate states Nov. 14th, 1875. I am not able to discern which of these years is actually correct. Would one simply exclude the month and day in favor of putting 1868-1875, or is there a better way to go about this to preserve his birth month/day?
Thank you in advance for the help! --Egglions (talk) 04:48, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
Hi Egglions, welcome to Wikipedia and apologies for my slow response. I would format it as November 14, 1868 or 1875, similar to how it is done in Kim Jong Un, using a note to state the different sources showing different things. Let me know if you have any other questions or need any more help. Thanks! :) --Ferien (talk) 20:55, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

Hi Dr.RobertCompton, welcome to Wikipedia. Citations are usually added with templates like cite web that makes citations appear properly. Hello, for a class project, I'm required to make 15 edits to topics related to my research. None of my edits are being accepted, and I am at a loss for how to get anything accepted. I have tried to make sure my edits do not have a bias and use reliable sources. Hello TakuyaYagami, it depends on the reason for deletion of the article you're attempting to create. Could you provide me with more detail please? --Ferien (talk) 18:37, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
Hi, I just checked, and it got deleted twice due to G5 Twice. Can i still try to make an article on it or not? I don't want to get in any trouble. Thanks. TakuyaYagami (talk) 19:01, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
TakuyaYagami, G5 applies for articles that were created by a user evading their ban or block. As long as this is your first account, and you weren't told to create this article by another editor, you are probably alright to create it, however it needs to meet notability guidelines. --Ferien (talk) 20:14, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

Previously there was a big yellow notice that said something like "This draft is under review, please be patient" but now there is no such message, but the page is still titled "Draft:Gustaf Arrhenius". --Kaede118 (talk) 07:09, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

Good afternoon, Ferien. Does Topper Guild qualify for a Wikipedia article to be written on him? --CandleWickipedia (talk) 18:50, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
Good evening CandleWickipedia, in my opinion, no, as there is not significant coverage in reliable, independent sources, per the general notability guideline. He also doesn't meet WP:ENT, the notability guideline for entertainers. You may find this page helpful for determining whether YouTubers meet our notability guidelines. It focuses on the notability guidelines that surround YouTubers, often "GNG" (General Notability Guideline) and "ENT" as I have already mentioned, and also gives an ongoing tally of Article for Deletion discussions on YouTuber articles, whether they resulted in keep/delete, the year, subscriber counts etc. Let me know if that helps, and if you have any more questions. Thanks :) --Ferien (talk) 21:18, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

I have added some images already to the wiki commons page but when I add the provided provided link text to the wiki page the image appear inside a sub table within the right hand image table. I am familiar with HTML but I can't figure out how to fix this. --Esteroinfo (talk) 20:51, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
Hi Esteroinfo, welcome to Wikipedia! Could you provide me with a link so I could look further? --Ferien (talk) 21:41, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
Sure, all 4 photos should appear above the single photo that is currently on the Estero, Florida Wiki page. I plan on adding a few more photos to that page (such as of the Hertz Arena which is in Estero as well as civic parks, as well as to the wiki pages of the various other South West Florida cities and towns once I learn how it is done. Thanks for your help.
Esteroinfo, hi, we don't usually format images like that in infoboxes. Instead multiple image is used to arrange the images automatically. Let me know how using that works, and if you need more help, feel free to let me know! --Ferien (talk) 15:53, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
How do I add images to my article --Johnofred9 (talk) 01:54, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
Hi Johnofred9, welcome to Wikipedia! Photos can be added to pages by using the code . More information on adding images is available at Help:Pictures. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 15:55, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
Hi, how do I add a page please? --SL72Tour (talk) 21:07, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

I was looking for sources in a section that had none, when I saw that the ENTIRE text was stolen off a website. Since this is my first time, I am unsure what to do. could you help? --Slapplegod (talk) 17:53, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
I left a note on @Slapplegod's talk page in reply to this. The page in question is a WP mirror, which copied all of the text from here, not the other way around. PianoDan (talk) 23:18, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
Hi Slapplegod, welcome to Wikipedia. I think PianoDan has answered your question here. Be careful for Wikipedia mirrors – unfortunately we have quite a few of them. --Ferien (talk) 22:49, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
Hello, I'm new here. I found on a page a mathematical formula that I believe needs a reference (which unfortunately I am unable to find and add myself). How can I point other users to this problem? Is it possible to add comments? For example, via the "talk" section? --FraGiovinetti (talk) 15:32, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
Hi FraGiovinetti, welcome to Wikipedia. You can use the citation needed tag to point out where a reference may be required. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 22:50, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
How do I create a new article? --Awaywthefaries (talk) 08:24, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
Hi Awaywthefaries, welcome to Wikipedia. You can use the article wizard to create new articles. If you need any more help beyond that, please let me know. --Ferien (talk) 20:17, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
Hi Ferien - I created an article in 2008, but although I entered my username and password today, these were no longer recognized. I now have new credentials. Do I need to create a draft article this time or is it possible to skip the draft? If you can't answer this, can you direct me to where I should ask? Thank you very much! --Meekpanda (talk) 19:03, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
Hi Meekpanda, as your new account isn't autoconfirmed yet, you aren't able to create any new articles without skipping articles for creation. Make sure to review H:RP to see if you're able to get back into your old account, or I believe you can email cawikimedia.org. Thanks, :) --Ferien (talk) 20:16, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
I really appreciate your quick response - thank you! Meekpanda (talk) 20:19, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

i need help, will you be available? --Atibrarian (talk) 20:28, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
Hi Atibrarian, I'm around, how can I help? Also, don't ask to ask, just ask the question, so I can help when I'm available :P --Ferien (talk) 20:37, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
can i directly take any extra information from other sources, if not what should i do so that any copyrights are not violated? --EvolvedLearner (talk) 13:41, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
Hi EvolvedLearner, welcome to Wikipedia. Articles should always be written in your own words, and citing sources to prove what you have written. There is more information about this at Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources. Please let me know if you need any more help. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 13:44, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
