Thanks and Happy New Year

Firstly, let me wish you a very happy New Year and thank you for all your help in the Milhist Tag & Assess 2007 drive.

Military history service award
For tagging and assessing 250 articles in Tag & Assess 2007, by order of the coordinators I hereby present you with this Military history WikiProject Service Award. --ROGER DAVIES talk 11:19, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Secondly, although the Tag & Assess 2007 drive is now officially closed, you are very welcome to continue tagging and assessing until 31 January 2008. Any articles you tag and assess during this time will be credited fully to your tagging tally for further award purposes.

Thirdly, if you can find the time, it would be good to have your feedback/comments on the drive at the Tag & Assess workshop

Thanks again for your help, --ROGER DAVIES talk 11:19, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I added yr template to a Talk page, and noticed that it is referring to the Comedy project for Importance ratings. I guess the template probably got copied from there and needs a set of ratings of its own? (Some games do verge on comedy though, but not when you sit through them on cold days like yesterday.) AllyD (talk) 23:51, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Hello, I've noticed that you've been editing a few pages related to The Simpsons, are you aware of the Simpsons WikiProject? As well, you've been adding several citations to the THOH page [1]. Citations are a good thing, but in these cases, there are already citations the next sentence over, and if there are four sentences in a row that use the same source, you don't need a citation for every single one, you just put the citation at the end. -- Scorpion0422 22:29, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for that link. I'm sorry for the excessive cites, I'll remember that in the future. WEBURIEDOURSECRETSINTHEGARDENwe need to talk. 22:30, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

addition of duplicate WPTIS flags to article talkpages

Hi, I see that you are adding duplicate {WPTIS flags} to article talkpages that already have WPTIS flags. If they have a {TrainsWikiProject} flag with a "Scotland=yes" field in it then that templates adds a WPTIS flag to the TrainsWP template and copies the "Class" across (but not the importance). Adding a duplicate {WPTIS} just confuses things as it marks them down as unassessed articles.Pyrotec (talk) 20:48, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Oh, I'm sorry. Won't happen again. WEBURIEDOURSECRETSINTHEGARDENwe need to talk. 20:50, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
Not a problem; and don't let me stop you adding {WPTIS} flags, where appropriate, - at the last count Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Scotland Transport articles by quality statistics we were 34 short of the 1,000 mark, but I suspect there are quite a few not yet tagged. The bot is running a few days late, so with the ones that you've added we're a bit closer to the mark.Pyrotec (talk) 21:11, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

I had to delete User:WBOSITG, because it is not allowed per CSD U2. Sorry.   jj137 00:51, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

I restored it, because actually I didn't really see a problem with it and there were a ton of broken links. :)   jj137 03:47, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
You can change it back to how you had it if you want (unless you were going to change it anyway), either way is fine.   jj137 22:59, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Like I said, it is fine either way; I have seen plenty of other users with long usernames do the exact same thing and nothing was done. :)   jj137 23:03, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
I am always entertained by usernames.  :)   jj137 23:05, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I like the spade for some reason I can't figure out.   jj137 23:09, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Yep, I was kind of surprised by that. Maybe he didn't know your full username, and just thought it was WBOSITG?   jj137 23:16, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
I have no idea where my username came from. I've been tempted to change it a million times but never had...   jj137 23:21, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
You're right! I have no doubt that would happen. There's also the fact I use the username on multiple wikis, including some where renaming is not available, and then it would just turn into a confusing mess.   jj137 23:24, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
You've said it right.   jj137 23:27, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Not that I know of. :)   jj137 23:33, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

RfA thanks

Thank you for voting in my RfA, which I withdrew with 5 support, 14 oppose, and 9 neutral. Thank you for your comments! Whether it was a support, oppose, or neutral, I likely got some good feedback from you. I will probably do another RfA in the future, but not until I work out the issues brought up.

Lean Accounting article -- Lost

Joe. Thanks for your message. I am dumbfounded about the article I wrote tonight. It has disappeared. It's called "Lean Accounting" and I edited and significantly added to a previous article written by a friend of mine. My several hours of work has disappeared and the previous, short article has come back. Any advice? I am pig-sick about losing my work. Brian BMaskell (talk) 22:25, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes, of course. I support anything that mucks something up. :-) SlimVirgin (talk)(contribs) 17:08, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry to hear that. With most of those questions, the only way you'd normally know how to answer them would be to have been an active admin for at least a year, and even then they're judgment calls -- others might disagree. Please let me know when you stand again and I'll vote for you, so long as you don't do anything outrageous between now and then (and perhaps even if you do.) :-) SlimVirgin (talk)(contribs) 00:14, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Your RFA

I suggest you study policy a bit more, and you could do editor review and admin coaching before you go out for admin cause those will help you learn more about being an admin. Hope your next RFA passes 100% :) Oysterguitarist

Re RfA withdrawal

I'm sorry for having opposed your RfA this time round. Don't be disheartened - just work on your knowledge of CSD policy, and you can count on my full support next time (I might even nominate you). You're a good editor and I'm sure you'll become an admin someday. (Incidentally, I agree that many of the questions were a bit harsh.) WaltonOne 00:26, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Don't get discouraged - many of our best admins failed their first time around. As for the questions, make sure to provide comprehensive answers and you won't be bothered (guess how I learned that one :-D). Lastly, is there a reason you have __NOEDITSECTION__ enabled here - it makes editing very annoying. east.718 at 02:15, January 21, 2008
Good luck for next time. Your answer to my question (#16) was pretty much spot on (I put it to three candidates who I felt were being judged on more technical grounds than were necessary to pass RfA, and I got three good responses), but I didn't get to note that before your withdrawal. I'd say you have the right qualities for an admin, so would have no problems supporting next time. Any questions re the more technical stuff, feel free to drop a line (although note I'll be in full time education from mid-Feb so responses may be slow.) Orderinchaos 04:41, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Sorry for opposing but as it says above many great admins have failed the first time on RfA. Regarding question 13 feel free to ask me if you have any questions about why I thought your answer was insufficient. EconomicsGuy (talk) 10:44, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
I agree with the above comments. I'm sure you will be a fine administrator in time. Good luck for next time... --BelovedFreak 17:13, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

17 questions

If I was online before you withdrew, you would've gotten a #Support - Likes Bloc Party. But alas :) Dihydrogen Monoxide (party) 01:42, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Just to let you know that CSD G4 applies only to material previously deleted via a deletion debate, not anything that was speedied or deleted any other way. Of course, you can probably retag it for the original reason- in this case, CSD A7. By the way, I love your username. J Milburn (talk) 22:05, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Still looking for a coach?

If you don't have a coach yet, I would be happy to coach you.

Keep in mind that I'm not an admin - I've been through 3 RfA's (so far), and therefore I understand the process well, though I have not yet overcome the stigma of conflicts I was engaged in early in my participation here (which occurred almost 2 years ago, also, if you want to see what not to do in an RfA, see mine). :) But I am an admin coach, and have co-coached 5 users who have become admins, 4 of whom I co-nominated for adminship in their successful RfAs. I have experience over a wide range of activities, and I'd say my general approach is progressive and direct.

If you'd like me to coach you, I do have several conditions, and they are that you...

  1. watch your coaching page closely, and reply to every post there in a timely fashion
  2. keep the "VC lessons" template somewhere you can access it easily (usually on your user or talk page). I'll place it initially, and then you can move it if you want.
  3. complete all the assignments you are given to the best of your ability. If you have trouble with an assignment, by all means, let me know, so we can discuss possible solutions and alternatives.
  4. take the advice provided by my fellow coaches and your fellow students to heart (this should be a group effort), and I generally invite others I work with to join in on the fun
  5. don't go for your RfA or accept an RfA nomination except from me - I will coordinate your nomination you when I believe you are ready
  6. (optional, though highly recommended) write a lesson for the Virtual classroom. You'll have plenty of time to mull this over, so don't worry about it.
  7. relax, be yourself, and have fun

Please let me know if you agree, and we can get started.

I look forward to your reply.

Yes. Most of the edits (around 3000) was from AWB (Auto Wiki Browser), I was redirecting articles. This is what I would do:

If someone searched (example) Concord, Nh, I would redirect it to Concord, New Hampshire. That's how I got all the edits. And also, I keep a goal for a minimum of 75 edits each day. I would love to do more, but I have to keep up with my school work. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 23:34, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for voting in my RfA, which was unsuccessful with 19 support, 18 oppose, and 5 neutral. I have signed up for admin coaching and will retry later on in a couple more months.

Thanks for your support, I look forward to working with you. (and thanks for your early birthday wishes! :-) ) - Jameson L. Tai talk ♦ [Special:Contributions/Jamesontai|contribs]] 04:26, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Just letting you know that, unfortunately, I had to revert your recent AWB edit there. Feel free to get in touch with me if you disagree. BanRay 21:36, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

There's no utility argument there, it simply looks prettier that way. That's why multiple wiki-links are seldom removed from such tables (same with footballers' infoboxes). Having some names hyperlinked and others in plain text just doesn't look nice (in my humble opinion of course). You might also want to see similar articles such as Ballon d'Or, FIFA World Footballer of the Year and African Footballer of the Year. BanRay 10:10, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
