2012 Olympics
Hello G. I meant to leave this yesterday so it may be too late to fully enjoy the thought by the time you read it. I don't know what all the fuss is about regarding who will be the last person carrying the torch into the Olympic Stadium tonight. I thought we had already seen documentary footage of the event that slipped through a wormhole six years ago :-) If you are into the Olympics I hope that you enjoy the coverage. If you aren't, at least, when they are over we will be that much closer to new stories featuring our favo(u)rite Time Lord. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 19:10, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- Haha! I love the Olympics, and I'm looking forward to the Opening Ceremony tonight. Although I am probably looking forward to series 7 more! Glimmer721 talk 19:18, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hi again. I wanted to let you know that I had to copy and paste the "Fezzes are cool" userbox that you created to my userpage. It set me to wondering whether you might be able to make a "Bow ties are cool" one as well. As we all know bow ties have been cool much longer than fezzes have been :-) If it isn't something that you want to do please don't worry about it. Tick Tick Tick we are getting closer to new episodes and BBC America started airing ads for the upcoming season this weekend! MarnetteD | Talk 19:17, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'm on it! It's so sad Troughton doesn't have much footage left. I did catch some of the marathon that was on Saturday and saw that promo. The BBC airs an extended trailer on Thursday! Glimmer721 talk 22:00, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- I love it. It is great that you included links to both the Dr Who article and the Second Dr one. Troughton is one of the first UK actors that became a favorite after seeing him in The Six Wives of Henry VIII way back when. Thus I was amazed to learn that was his first role after leaving Dr Who. His missing episodes are why we need either time or faster than light travel so that someone can take record them and bring them back for us to enjoy. Thanks very much for your work it is much appreciated. MarnetteD | Talk 22:31, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

DYK for A Town Called Mercy
On 2 August 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article A Town Called Mercy, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the upcoming Wild West-themed Doctor Who episode, "A Town Called Mercy", was mainly filmed around Almería, Spain, the same location used for many Westerns, including A Fistful of Dollars? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/A Town Called Mercy. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Congratualtions on the good topic! Well deserved. I haven't disappeared, just managed to find a job for the summer which is requiring me to work as many as sixty hours a week. After sleep has been added in, hardly any time to do anything online :P I'll try and make edits from time-to-time but it's probably not wise to count on me being available to monitor things or help with anything on a regular basis. For example, I only realised today than Ninth Doctor was already a Good article. Happy wiki-ing! Eshlare (talk) 23:11, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- I intend to get round to the signpost thingy, and Jo. What do you think of this? Not sure if it's the most flattering image available but it could be given a license like this and work fine. Better than the existing one at any rate. Thanks for the constructive edits to the article :) Eshlare (talk) 03:03, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- I uploaded the new image. With the lists, a way to go would not be to remove the sections but to prosify them (like Rose Tyler and Gwen Cooper) with reference to the release dates, type of media, in-universe chronology and any significant fleshing out of the characters in regards to their characteriation across all media outlets as a whole. Doing that however, might be problematic if one isn't well-acquainted with wider representation of the character. Intending to get round to that with Jo eventually. By the way, Did you see this? Eshlare (talk) 23:32, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- If you have a spare five minutes could you have a quick look over at this article for me pretty please, just to check if I haven't missed anything obvious? Also, I trust I have it in the correct category? The GAN categories changed without me noticing. Hope you are enjoying the London Olympics, haven't seen much of it myself but last I checked we were third and the US were second so things going well all round it seems! Orphaned non-free media (File:Peeta.JPG)
Thanks for uploading File:Peeta.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Doctor Who
I know that you are the Doctor Who aficionado. Would it be cool if I started to work on "Blink"? It's easily my favorite episode and I've been meaning to work on it for a while. Just thought I'd ask in case you have some plan. :)--Gen. Quon (Talk) 17:29, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- I added some stuff a while ago, but honestly it's up in the air. I don't think anyone is working on it. I would say that the first two points in the "Fandom and popular culture" could go to "Production" as they are sort of writing things. The last could go in the reception section. The Weeping Angles I know have made "Best of" monster lists, so that could also go there. I also have a book which I know has a review and maybe some other trivia, so I can look through that. This and this might have some to add to reception. Otherwise, it looks good to go. I've been wanting to work on the older ones for a while, but other than lack of sources they also need to be cleaned up; I've been keeping track here if you wanted to help out. By the way, do you think the plot summaries in "Let's Kill Hitler" and "The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe" seem too long? It's really the only thing holding me back from nominating it for GA (except for the leads, of course). Glimmer721 talk 19:23, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- Cool, I'll try to work on that sometime. As for your episodes, they look fine to me. Doctor Who is very intricate, so I think longer plot summaries are to be expected.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 23:19, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- Okay. I'll look through that book to see if there's anything useful for "Blink". I know it only has one review instead of the original two because the co-author decided not to bother and just made a list of things he liked. Now, on to cut down the plot in Pyramids of Mars... Glimmer721 talk 23:59, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- I have started the work on "Blink". Wow, that plot summary is ridiculous. Granted, maybe I'm a bad fan, but I haven't seen much of the original, save what I've caught on PBS every once and awhile.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 00:35, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- I've only just started the classic series and I'm skipping around a lot. The special effects are hilarious, but there are some great characters. Anyway, I played around with the reception section and I think the reception about the angels (straight from Weeping Angels) could go in the "legacy" section. Probably worth mentioning "The Time of Angels"/"Flesh and Stone" and the upcoming series 7 episode there as well (did you see that trailer? Baby weeping angel!) and they were also in this spinoff novel I read once... Glimmer721 talk 01:00, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, from the bits I've seen, I remember the special effects being ridiculous, but I guess that's part of the charm of the show. "Blink" is starting to look a lot better.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 20:19, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- I have been trying to figure out a way to include "timey wimey" into Blink, but I think that your additions gets what I couldn't find. I *think* it's possible that you can show that the media has picked up on the term to describe any time loop-based story (heck, Hasbro used it for a My Little Pony character...). --User:Masem 21:02, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

I still think the Adipose are adorable. I'm not sure how much there is on the filming of "Blink". If you can track down Confidential it may have a little, but I think the accompaning episode was mainly about the show's history in the BBC Television Center (where they filmed the classic series - the new one is in Wales). Some things currently in the filming section are more writing (name of the house, police box windows). And the newspaper thing is sort of trivia/OR that I don't think anyone will care if it's removed. The "One Year Later" thing might go in broadcast. Glimmer721 talk 21:06, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- About the timey-whimey thing (sorry, edit conflict): go ahead if you've found anything. Glimmer721 talk 21:06, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- I know that issue 384 of Doctor Who Magazine has info on the filming of "Blink" and the DVD for series 3 has a commentary on the episode. I'm tracking down the DVD (my library has it... alas, I'd like to purchase it, but those releases are so damn expensive in the States).--Gen. Quon (Talk) 21:21, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- My library has all the DVDs, although the series 3 one is reported missing in one branch and in the other it's in - but it's not broken up into discs like the others are (although, 1 and 2 aren't either). I have 5 and 6, although they have less special features (which explains why they were cheaper). I've never seen DWM around, unfortunately. Glimmer721 talk 21:41, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- I might try inter-library loaning that issue from my university library when school starts back up. I might be able to track it down. I was able to add a bit of prod info based on a cut down of the Doctor Who Confidential I found on YouTube, but it was only 4 minutes long.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 21:43, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- The DVD should have the cut-down version of Confidential (15 minutes), but like I said it doesn't seem like it's really focused on the production (they do that every once and a while - the one for "The Lodger" spent half of the time sending Karen Gillan to a planetarium to learn about space with a lady who talked really fast). But I've found this, which has been edited down to the parts that focused on the episode. Also this, if it's not in the article yet. Glimmer721 talk 22:06, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

Do you think "Blink" is ready to go? If so, would you like to co-nominate it, since we both did quite a bit of work on it?--Gen. Quon (Talk) 19:29, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- Looks awesome! I just made a few tweaks as I was reading. Is there a way to co-nom GAs? If so, go ahead. By the way, while you have the Series 3 DVDs, is it possible you can get anything for "Gridlock"? I reformatted it a while ago and it has potentional, but needs some sources. Glimmer721 talk 02:05, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, there is, and I did. Sure, I can look up the Gridlock info. I'll probably have to watch the commentary which is rather dull, but I've been meaning to help out with the Doctor Who articles for awhile now...--Gen. Quon (Talk) 01:50, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks! I know series 5 has in-vision commentary which shows the writers/directors/actors discussing it, which is a little more interesting (and you can tell who says what). I've been trying to keep up with the news for the new series (especially since Confidential has been canceled), but with school I don't know how much I'm going to be able to do when it airs. During the second half of series 6 I wrote the critical reception sections the morning after it aired; sometimes when left an IP or less experienced user attempts and it comes across as poorly written or biased. So if you want to help out that would be great way to start. You've seen which sources are commonly used (Guardian, Telegraph, Independent, Radio Times, Digital Spy, A.V. Club, IGN, SFX, io9, sometimes Den of Geek). Also, "Asylum of the Daleks" had a press screening yesterday and I'm wondering if I should put the (spoiler-free) reception of it up, or just wait. There is also supposed to be an interview with Chris Chibnall up on Radio Times soon (he wrote two upcoming episodes). Glimmer721 talk 02:12, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
- I can probably help with the reception. That's what I did last year for The Office episodes, and it wasn't too bad. As for the "Asylum of the Daleks", I'd go ahead, as it is in the news and its noteworthy.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 15:01, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
- "Blink" got reviewed this morning and I made all the necessary changes. Since I put your name down as a co-nominator, you can add it to your contributions! Congrats! :)--Gen. Quon (Talk) 16:13, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

- Yes, but I wasn't aware that you could view them in the US. Apparently through this part of the site you can, even if it's just series 2. Thanks! Now, where would be a good place to start? Glimmer721 talk 23:58, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
