Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Emerson, Lake & Palmer, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Martin Townsend (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

List of progressive rock artists

[edit]

Information icon Hello. Your recent edit to List of progressive rock artists appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person, organization or product added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Reliable sources

[edit]

Hi, this is a guide to reliable and unreliable sources for music articles Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Sources. Sources such as discogs and imdb are not permitted as references because they are user edited and therefore not reliable enough for use on Wikipedia except within the external links section, regards Atlantic306 (talk)

Hi, Atlantic306, Thank you for helping me to improve articles for Tris Margetts and Spontaneous Combustion (English band). I appreciate your taking the time and pointing me to AllMusic as a reliable source. I've recently created my first articles at Wikipedia and enjoyed the feeling of accomplishment! I was curious about the band after discovering one of their songs inadvertently was included as a bonus track "Unknown Ballad" on a 2012 reissue of Emerson, Lake & Palmer's 1971 album Tarkus. When I saw the band didn't already have a Wikipedia article and there was curiosity about them in a number of internet forums (as well as dedicated fans who described seeing the band in concert in the 1970s), I spent three years researching and documenting their careers, which was fun - and challenging. Because the band pre-dates the internet, a lot of research was not online and required old-fashioned investigative journalism techniques. The funny thing was, the discography websites Discogs, RateYourMusic, and the "45s" [45cat, 45worlds] proved to be excellent sources of objective, reliable, comprehensive and well-organized information, in part because they include images of the records whose labels display information including track lists, credits (songwriters, arrangers, producers, publishing, copyrights, release dates, et al.). AllMusic had several bands named Spontaneous Combustion's information jumbled together, and information errors (such as having an album's release year wrong, perhaps a data entry typographical error); the discography sites that accept user edits actually had better accuracy and more comprehensive links. But that's a discussion better to have elsewhere. Thank you again! I appreciate your kindness and help. Regards, GoldDustProspector GoldDustProspector (talk) 15:04, 12 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When adding sources you do not need to add a quote of the relevant information unless what you are citing is long enough to the point where it would be hard to find it. I also advise you to use Template:Cite web. SK2242 (talk) 18:35, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
