About this award[edit]

The idea behind this award is to reward editors who have shown considerable attention to articles related to the Black Hawk War. For a fifteen week conflict there are a lot of supporting articles. It is called the "Chief Black Hawk Certificate of Alliance" because when Black Hawk fought with the British during the War of 1812 he was given a certificate from the king which proclaimed their alliance. He held this certificate the rest of his life and it was one of his most important possesions. Black Hawk was a very overtly emotional human being, so it's not hard to see how dearly he held this item. Thus, the award has some real meaning attached to it, even if it isn't tangible.
