Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
[edit]SuggestBot predicts that you will enjoy editing some of these articles. Have fun!
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.
P.S. You received these suggestions because your name was listed on the SuggestBot request page. If this was in error, sorry about the confusion. -- SuggestBot 16:38, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
More Signpost
[edit]Sure, feel free. I apologize if it sounded like the deadline is rigid. I'm not too worried about any new admins, pictures, etc. that happen after you submit it; we'll just cover them next week. Ral315 » 18:28, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
- Don't worry, seriously- any time from say, 17:00 UTC on Sunday through 17:00 on Monday's fine for me. Ral315 » 00:46, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanx for the merge
[edit]Thanks for taking the time to help me with my merge goal on dental crowns and bridges. Assuming nobody responds to this merge idea, or that no one has a problem with it, or that some people actually agree...how do i proceed and how long do i have to wait?
Additionaly, I want to nominate you for adminship...let me know if you're game. DRosenbach (Talk | Contribs) 21:59, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
- Not all to assert that a nomination for adminship is a glorified award, or that a barnstar award is a diminutive form of adminship nomination, but in fact, independantly, I believe you deserve a pat on the shoulder for your precision and community service in working out the coding details for my recommendation of merger. DRosenbach (Talk | Contribs) 13:10, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
Alaibot "code"
[edit]By and large it's standard-issue code from the pywikipedia bot framework, with one or two tweaks, some shell scripting, and the use of parts of the database dumps to generate input. Nothing "closed source" as such, I just haven't bothered tidying the code up, bringing it in line with the current version, etc. Was there a particular task you had in mind? Alai 14:45, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
That task's probably not a good candidate for being 'cloned' at this point. The trouble is, the choke point isn't the bot itself, but getting updated lists of uncategorised articles to feed into it, which is severely restricted by things like the rate of db dumps. It's also not really time-critical, so unless my 'bot becomes totally inactive, it doesn't really need a "real time" backup. (It doesn't run continuously, just every so often when it has a fresh list, and is feeding into cleanup categories that already have huge backlogs...) And it's also the feature in which the code is most in need of cleaning up for "public consumption"... Alai 02:31, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Please fix my page User:Kpalion
[edit]Hi Extranet, thanks for volunteering to help fix my page. I think my page is quite messy, but I don't have an exact idea what I would like it to look like. Generally, I want to keep all or most of what's there now, but I'd like to have the page better structured. I'd be glad to hear your suggestions. — Kpalion(talk) 20:50, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I like your navigation bar, so let's try this of a start. — Kpalion(talk) 21:15, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
My favorite colors are in a spectrum ranging from brown to tan to olive to green. As for my country of residence, it's Poland. However, I want to limit personal information that is not directly relevant to Wikipedia to the minimum. I believe that, for example, information about what languages I speak is relevant, but my country of residence or nationality – much less. Nevertheless, my Polishness is nothing I would want to conceal either, so let's see what you propose. — Kpalion(talk) 08:55, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

New admins in Signpost
[edit]It might be an idea to include admins who have regained their admin rights under a different identity from the one that passed their RFA in the new admins section in the Signpost. Recent examples include User:Gaillimh and User:NYC JD. Catchpole 11:20, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- You don't have to include me. I am old news, and require no additional publicity. - NYC JD (make a motion) 12:43, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- I wouldn't worry about it at this point. Ral315 » 22:36, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Belated thanks

Wikipedia Weekly Notification!
[edit]This is just a friendly reminder that Wikipedia Weekly has been released with a new episode!
This is a special episode we recored specifically dealing w/ the whole Essjay/Ryan Jordan situation. We recorded this before Jimbo's second comment, so it might be a little dated but still a good listen.
As always you can download old episodes and more at http://wikipediaweekly.com/!
Please spread the word about Wikipedia Weekly, we're trying to spread the word so that people know about the project, we've got some cool guests lined up and it makes it much more fun if people tune in!

BSOD
[edit]Ouch... do you use Mozilla Firefox 2.0? It's got a built-in session saver that I've found will save pretty much all of your work. I had that happen to me a few times until they introduced the session saver- it's helped me a lot :) Ral315 » 23:26, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the head table for my user page
[edit]It's nice and helpful. However, I still want to improve the rest of my user page. I just pruned it a little, but it still looks somewhat messy to me. I'd be very thankful for any ideas for a better structure of the page (perhaps using a table?). Thanks again — Kpalion(talk) 09:49, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I was thinking about something like this. It's an examlple of a nicely structured page. Now, I don't want to simply copy the layout, especially because I don't think I have that much content to put in it. I'm just talking about using a table to make the page look less messy. — Kpalion(talk) 11:07, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
No problem, Extranet, this is not something extremely urgent. — Kpalion(talk) 12:20, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Signpost: wrong link?
[edit]It seemed to say you were the "Features and admins" section editor? The 'nom' link for User:Georgewilliamherbert actually links to a failed request. Huh? You wanted Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/Georgewilliamherbert_(2) instead? Shenme 09:18, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
- Link has been fixed. Extranet (Talk | Contribs) 11:06, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Admin coaching
[edit]Hi. I saw your request for an admin coach. I'm available. I do have just a few conditions though, and they are that you...
- don't go for another RfA or accept any RfA nomination until I think you are ready.
- take the advice provided by me and your fellow students to heart (this will be a group effort)
- display the template {{VC assignments}} somewhere on one of your user pages where you can access it easily (at or near the top of your talk page is a pretty good place).
If you agree, I'll set up a section for you on the Virtual classroom, and we can get started.
I look forward to your reply. The Transhumanist 04:52, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit]You have a section set up there. But don't limit your involvement to your own section. Get involved in the other students' sections too. Communicate. Ask questions. Give advice. Request feedback. Share and compare. Etc. Your initial questions and first assignment are waiting for you there. Have fun! The Transhumanist 21:40, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
