Merge

The thing about it is, is that you don't go off the !votes. You see what people are saying then a decision is based off of that. There have been lots of mergers that don't get done based on the validity of the what people are saying against it. You just went ahead and merged without any real closure to the vote. See if there was a Nataly Dawn article, would you want to merge it? I mean she does her solo stuff, Pomplamoose, and her new project called My Terrible Friend with Lauren O'Connell. I still think if you look, then you will more information to put in the Jack Conte article even if it's a little bit of information. Mr. C.C.^{Hey yo!}_{I didn't do it!} 21:24, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Honestly I didn't go by # of votes, I did go by what people were saying. That said, I think it would be a good idea to make an inquiry for a third opinion to close the debate. Hello, it looks like I was four minutes late to the . If you check my contribs for the last five minutes you will see that I tried to rally WP Hungary and one of its members to support this debate. There are several assertions of notability in the article. I had begun to edit the AfD before you closed it. Here is what I wrote:

• Comment - No assertion of notability? His article states, "Next year he won the Pazmand Quake competition, considered as an underdog. If I do the math right, that would be approximately in 2005. It also states, "In 2009 he switched to the newest version of the Quake series, called QuakeLive. Varga became an ESL Major Series Player, and finished 4th, in the 5th season." He gets plenty of ghits but I don't speak Hungarian otherwise, I'd try to save this article. ----moreno oso (talk) 04:56, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
• Keep - per WP:IAR and the assertions of notability in the article (cf above).

WikiCup 2010 July newsletter

We are half-way through our penultimate round, and nothing is yet certain. Pool A, currently led by Sasata (submissions) has ended up the more competitive, with three contestants ( Sasata (submissions), Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) and TonyTheTiger (submissions)) scoring over 500 points already. Pool B is led by Casliber (submissions), who has also scored well over 500. The top two from each pool, as well as the next four highest scorers regardless of pool, will make it through to our final eight. As ever, anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Planning has begun for the 2011 WikiCup, with open discussions concerning scoring and flags for next year's competition. Contributions to those discussions would be appreciated, especially concerning the flags, as next year's signups cannot begin until the flag issue has been resolved. Signups will hopefully open at some point in this round, with discussion about possible changing in the scoring/process opening some time afterwards.

Earlier this round, we said goodbye to Hunter Kahn (submissions), who has bowed out to spend more time on the book he is authoring with his wife. We wish him all the best. In other news, the start of this round also saw some WikiCup awards sent out by Suomi Finland 2009 (submissions). Sega Dreamcast

Hi Jujutacular. I just noticed that my nomination for the Sega Dreamcast was closed under "Not Promoted". How come? Voters that express a support that is not full (usually denoted by 'weak') are generally counted as 1/2 of a full support. Recent example: Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Uranium Billet. Ross Allen

Apparently there are several Ross Allens, such as an English footballer & perhaps someone involved in cricket. There are also many hits in google with a search for Ross Allen. Although there are not articles in Wikipedia now on these individuals, it is conceivable that one will be created in the future. I considered this when I created the article name as Ross Allen (herpetologist). You can see some of this by the “what links here”. Accordingly, I reverted this recent name change move. Dear Jujutacular

I am relatively new to Wikipedia, but I am trying hard to help document some very important aspects of the Cyprus peace process. As you may realize, the struggle for peace in a conflicting society is not a very popular subject and many times those involved are victimized by society and are not always willing to stand up and report their roles.

In any case, being one of the key players in the Cyprus peace movement (this can be verified by contacting the Head of the UN program in Cyprus) I am in a position to know that certain events have been historically instrumental for the creation of the peace movement on the island, and it would be helpful to be able to find a short description in an encyclopedia such as the wikipedia. One of those events, was the Cyprus Peace Bazaar. This event has been organized and supported by the two most active organzations in Cyprus: UN & Fulbright.

I might have not been the right person to post it on Wikipedia, and having it deleted makes me feel responsible.

I would therefore like to have your advice what would it require to highlight and validate the significance of that event so as to re-publish it.

Also I would greatly appreciate if you could guide me how I could re-list it.

For starters, you should take a few guidelines that are relevant here:

• Wikipedia:Notability: Wikipedia requires that all the subjects it covers have already been discussed in detail in reliable sources (see Wikipedia:Reliable sources). Searches on google yielded nothing pertaining to the event ([1] [2] [3]).
• Wikipedia:No original research: Wikipedia is not a place for original research. Every fact here should be backed up by a reliable source. Also see Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you believe that there is significant coverage of the event in reliable sources, I would suggest reworking the page at User:Futuristas/Cyprus Peace Bazaar (click on the red link to begin the page). It is a subpage of your user page, where you may work on the article without it appearing in the main encyclopedia pages. If and when you feel that the page meets the above guidelines, you can let me know and I will submit it for you at Wikipedia:Articles for creation.

Signpost "Features and admins" column

Hi Jujutacular, The Signpost's "Features and admins" page now includes a "Choice of the week" for featured articles, featured lists and featured pictures. Each week, The Signpost invites a different delegate, reviewer or nominator from each process to select what they think is the best, or their favourite, item, and to give their reasons. These reasons can be technical (e.g., related to the Criteria) or subjective, or both.

The discussion actually involved 3 users, and yes this is generally considered sufficient when unanimous. I would suggest working on the potential article in your userspace, at User:Hanovete/Khan Wars (click the red link to begin the page). When you feel it is ready you may inquire at Wikipedia:Articles for creation where other editors will discuss its merit. Make sure that the page follows relevant guidelines, specifically:

• Wikipedia:Notability
• Wikipedia:Verifiability
• Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources

Protecting templates

Hello! Just a friendly FYI, when you protect a template, please remember to wrap the <noinclude> tags around it, like I did here. As is, the protection template has now been transcluded as well, causing Category:Wikipedia pages with incorrect protection templates to go from ~15 to 329. :) Dunno if it's all related, but a good deal is. That looks just fine, thank you! I used a bot to upload them to the Wikimedia Commons - where the majority of images on Wikipedia are stored. The files are:

WikiCup 2010 August newsletter

We have our final eight! The best of luck to those who remain. A bumper newsletter this week as we start our home straight.

• Pool A's winner was Sturmvogel_66 (submissions). Awarded the top score overall this round, Sturmvogel_66 writes primarily on military history, favouring Naval warfare.
• Pool B's winner was Casliber (submissions). Awarded the top score for featured articles this round, Casliber writes primarily on natural sciences, especially botany and ornithology.
• Pool A's close second was Sasata (submissions). Awarded the top score for featured pictures this round, Sasata writes primarily on natural sciences, favouring mycology.
• Pool B's close second was ThinkBlue (submissions). Awarded the top score for good articles and topics this round, ThinkBlue primarily writes content related to television and film, including 30 Rock.
• The first wildcard was TonyTheTiger (submissions). Awarded the top score for did you knows and valued pictures this round, TonyTheTiger writes on a number of topics, including baseball, American football and Chicago.
• The second wildcard was White Shadows (submissions). Someone who has helped the Cup behind the scenes all year, White Shadows said "I'm still in shock that I made it this far" and writes primarily on Naval warfare, especially U-boats.
• The third wildcard was Staxringold (submissions). Awarded the top score for featured lists and topics this round, Staxringold primarily writes on sport and television, including baseball and 30 Rock.
• The fourth wildcard was William S. Saturn (submissions). Entering the final eight only on the final day of the round, William S. Saturn writes on a number of topics, mostly related to Texas.

We say goodbye to the six who fell at the final hurdle. Geschichte (submissions) only just missed out on a place in the final eight. Resolute (submissions) was not far behind. Candlewicke (submissions) was awarded top points for in the news this round. Gary King (submissions) contributed a variety of did you know articles. Suomi Finland 2009 (submissions) said "I'm surprised to have survived so far into the competition", but was extactic to see Finland in the semi-finals. Arsenikk (submissions) did not score this round, but has scored highly in previous rounds. We also say goodbye to Ian Rose (submissions), who withdrew earlier this month after spending six weeks overseas. Anyone interested in this round's results can see them here and here. Thank you to Stone (submissions) for these.

Signups for next year's competition are now open. Planning is ongoing, with a key discussion about judges for next year open. Discussion about how next year's scoring will work is ongoing, and thoughts are more than welcome at Wikipedia talk:WikiCup/Scoring. Also, TonyTheTiger is compiling some information and statistics on the finalists here- the final eight are encouraged to add themselves to the list.

Our final eight will play it out for two months, after which we will know 2010's WikiCup winner, and a variety of prizes will be awarded. As ever, anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible.
