License tagging for File:GeneralisationOfNapoleonPoint.svg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:GeneralisationOfNapoleonPoint.svg. You don't seem to have indicated the licen loope status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 19:05, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File:MadhavaSine.svg listed for deletion

[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:MadhavaSine.svg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. MGA73 (talk) 16:01, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Harry Clinton Gossard, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://faculty.evansville.edu/ck6/bstud/gossard.html.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) Some recent edits

[edit]

Hello.

Concerning this edit, please note that en-dashes rather than hyphens should be used in ranges of pages, years, etc. In mathematical notation, people frequently use too little spacing, writing, for example 2+3 instead of 2 + 3, but here there was too much spacing. For example, in expressions like 2 − 3, one puts a space before and after the minus sign, but when it's a unary rather than binary operation, it is standard to write −5 without a space between the minus sign and the 5. See WP:MOSMATH.

I have added the article to the list of partition topics. If you know of others that should be on the list and are not, could you add those? Michael Hardy (talk) 21:36, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Vararuci and Parayi.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Vararuci and Parayi.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:10, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of automated file description generation

[edit]

Your upload of File:BhaskaraSineApproximation.JPG or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 13:21, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article 2719 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Notability not asserted; it says it's the largest known odd number ....

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 11:10, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm also proposing that, if kept, it be moved to 2719 (number); it's the only number in Category:Integers less than 10 digits which is not tagged as "number". Please comment on that at Talk:2719. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 11:14, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

CIS-A2K is going to organize an edit-a-thon between 25 and 31 January this year. The aim of this edit-a-thon is creating and improving Geographical Indications in India related articles.

We welcome all of you to join this edit-a-thon.
Please see the event and add your name as a participant: Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Events/Geographical Indications in India Edit-a-thon

Geographical Indications in India Edit-a-thon starts in 24 hours

[edit]

Hello,

Thanks a lot for signing up as a participant in the Geographical Indications in India Edit-a-thon. We want to inform you that this edit-a-thon will start in next 24 hours or so (25 January 0:00 UTC). Here are a few handy tips:

  • ⓵ Before starting you may check the rules of the edit-a-thon once again.
  • ⓶ A resource section has been started, you may check it here.
  • ⓷ Report the articles you are creating and expanding. If a local event page has been created on your Wikipedia you may report it there, or you may report it on the Meta Wiki event page too. This is how you should add an article— go to the "participants" section where you have added you name, and beside that add the articles like this: Example (talk) (Articles: Article1, Article2, Article3, Article4). You don't need to update both on Meta and on your Wikipedia, update at any one place you want.
  • ⓸ If you are posting about this edit-a-thon- on Facebook or Twitter, you may use the hashtag #GIIND2016
  • ⓹ Do you have any question or comment? Do you want us to clarify something? Please ask it here.

Thank you and happy editing. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:33, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Maddalam of Palakkad

[edit]

Hello Krishnachandranvn,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Maddalam of Palakkad for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. ubiquity (talk) 02:33, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Maddalam of Palakkad

[edit]

The article Maddalam of Palakkad has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not meet WP:GNG. The only reference merely asserts that this product has been registered with the government of India. This does not necessarily constitute notability, but the article does not even assert that the subject is notable for any other reason.

In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ubiquity (talk) 18:26, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Maddalam of Palakkad for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Maddalam of Palakkad is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Maddalam of Palakkad until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. ubiquity (talk) 12:25, 30 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

7 more days to create or expand articles

[edit]

Hello, thanks a lot for participating in Geographical Indications in India Edit-a-thon. We understand that perhaps 7 days (i.e. 25 January to 31 January) were not sufficient to write on a topic like this, and/or you may need some more time to create/improve articles, so let's extend this event for a few more days. The edit-a-thon will continue till 10 February 2016 and that means you have got 7 more days to create or expand articles (or imprpove the articles you have already created or expanded).

Rules

The rules remain unchanged. Please report your created or expanded articles.

Joining now

Editors, who have not joined this edit-a-thon, may also join now.

Reviewing articles

Reviewing of all articles should be done before the end of this month (i.e. February 2016). We'll keep you informed. You may also check the event page for more details.

Prizes/Awards

A special barnstar will be given to all the participants who will create or expand articles during this edit-a-thon. The editors, who will perform exceptionally well, may be given an Indic Geographical Indication product or object. However, please note, nothing other than the barnstar has been finalized or guaranteed. We'll keep you informed.

Control copyright icon Hello Krishnachandranvn, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Kuthampally dhoties and set mundu has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. File source problem with File:Madhava sine tabe in Devanagari.JPG

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Madhava sine tabe in Devanagari.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Mathematical fiction, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ian Stewart. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Rio Olympics Edit-a-thon

[edit]

Dear Friends & Wikipedians, Celebrate the world's biggest sporting festival on Wikipedia. The Rio Olympics Edit-a-thon aims to pay tribute to Indian athletes and sportsperson who represent India at Olympics. Please find more details here. The Athlete who represent their country at Olympics, often fail to attain their due recognition. They bring glory to the nation. Let's write articles on them, as a mark of tribute.

For every 20 articles created collectively, a tree will be planted. Similarly, when an editor completes 20 articles, a book will be awarded to him/her. Check the main page for more details. Invitation from Wikipedia Asian Month 2016

[edit]

Thanks for partipating Wikipedia Asian Month last year, and I hope you enjoy it. Last year, more than 7,000 articles contribute to Wikipedia in 43 languages in Wikipedia Asian Month, making us one of the largest event on Wikipedia. We will organize this event again in upcoming November, and would like to invite you join us again.

This year, we are lowering down the standards that you only need to create 4 (Four) articles to receive a postcard (new design), and articles only need to be more than 3,000 bytes and 300 words. We are also improving our postcard sending process, e.g. making the postcards right now, and collecting the address after the event ends without waiting other languges.

Wikipedians who create the most articles on each Wikipedia will be honored as "Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors". We will send you both digital copy, and a paper copy of the Ambassador certificate.

Thank you for considering! --AddisWang (talk)

Kerala article

[edit]

You are obviously well versed in knowledge on the Indian state of Kerala but unfortunately Wikipedia is a neutral site and cannot have propaganda. The article you wrote must be brought to Wikipedia standards, I being an American with a lack of knowledge of Indian history and culture, do not want to edit it in chance that I mess up with the article. Bring the state planning in Kerala up to Wikipedia standards Dogblock (talk) 10:47, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Dogblock (talk), I am no expert in Kerala Planning and I did not contribute anything to the article except that I added a new item to the "See also" section. I am writing this here because you appear to have no user page and talk page. Krishnachandranvn (talk) 14:08, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ok sorry for accusing you, I just assumed who wrote the article last was the one that edited it to a propaganda fest. If you mind could you help me edit it back to Wikipedia standards Dogblock (talk) 15:49, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You have created recently this article and linked it in Gaussian elimination#See also. Apparently, you did not notice that the "Chapter Eight Rectangular Arrays" was already cited in Gaussian elimination#History, through a link to Rod calculus#System of linear equations, where Fangcheng is also described. It is confusing to have two articles about exactly the same thing. So, please, merge these two descriptions of Fangcheng, and fix accordingly the links to them. Notice

The article She Taxi has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Poorly sourced, only a few brief mentions around the time the program started. Ultimately fails WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Dishant Mayurbhai Pancholi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dishant Mayurbhai Pancholi. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Dishant Mayurbhai Pancholi

[edit]

You said that the new incarnation of the Dishant Mayurbhai Pancholi article shouldn't be deleted per WP:G4 due to the subject winning the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology. However, this fact was already brought up in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dishant Mayurbhai Pancholi, so it can't be used as grounds to unilaterally ignore the result of that AfD. If you think the AfD outcome was wrong, you should first ask User:Tone, and if that doesn't lead to a satisfactory outcome, then WP:DRV. Jackmcbarn (talk) 16:40, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I've reviewed your article for WP:WAM, and unfortunately it has been rejected for now. The article currently lacks footnotes in several paragraphs, and the tone of the article sounds a bit promotional and thus may need copyediting. Please address the concerns so that the article can be accepted. Thank you and happy editing. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 12:50, 2 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! The article Modern triangle geometry you created recently is currently discussed at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Mathematics#About_modern_triangle_geometry. Probably you should join the discussion to help clarifying the issues. Best regards - Jochen Burghardt (talk) 13:53, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ryuko Hira requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://business.rediff.com/slide-show/2010/aug/27/slide-show-1-the-richest-indians-in-other-countries.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

An article you recently created, Kerala Institute for Research, Training and Development Studies of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 11:54, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Onel5969 Thanks for taking all the trouble for reviewing the article and sending such a detailed note. I believe the topic deserves a space in Wikipedia and I hope to bring the article to Wikipedia 's standards soon. Thanks once again. Krishnachandranvn (talk) 13:54, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. When I move something to draft, it means I think it is possibly notable. Once you add in-depth sourcing from independent sources, if you'd like me to take another look, simply ping me. Onel5969 TT me 13:55, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello Krishnachandranvn! Your additions to Kripa Shankar Shukla have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation.
Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. – Isochrone (T) 15:11, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for pointing out this deficiency in my article. I wrote the article in good faith and I was thinking that I had suitably paraphrased the original content. O. K. Thank you. Krishnachandranvn (talk) 01:06, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without evidence of permission, as you did at Sathyanarayana Beleri. Please take this opportunity to ensure that you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.   — Diannaa (talk) 15:03, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I understand that Wikipedia takes copyright violations seriously and I completely and categorically endorse Wikipedia's policy on copyright violations. I have created more than 400 articles in Wikipedia on a variety of topics and I intend to continue contributing good quality articles to Wikipedia. My ranking as an editior, in terms of the number of articles created, is within the first 2000 ranks. By blocking me indefinitely from editing, Wikipedia is denying me an opportunity to support the cause that Wikipedia espouses so strongly, namely, creating the biggest encyclopedia ever created. I know all these are no excuses for committing copyright violations. If somebody can point out exactly what part of the article Sathyanarayana Beleri violates copyright violation, I am happy to edit the article to make it comply with the copyright policy of Wikipedia.

I regret my copyright violation and request the functionaries of Wikipedia to unblock me from editiong Wikipedia with immediate effect. Krishnachandranvn (talk) 23:17, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

It's great that you agree with the policy on copyright- but you need to show us that you actually understand it. Copyright violations potentially put Wikipedia in legal jeopardy, so we must be convinced that you understand this policy. It doesn't matter if you created one article, 400, or if you are Jimmy Wales himself. Please tell us in your own words what copyright is, what Wikipedia's license is, and when/how copyrighted content may be used on Wikipedia. Your answers will help us determine if you should be unblocked. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 10:12, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

This is an honest and sincere request to revoke the indefinite block placed upon me "from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without evidence of permission". The copyright violation occurred in respect of the article titled Sathyanarayana Beleri" created by me. 1. I understand that copying materials without permission, that is, violating copyrights, is a serious crime. It is not only a crime in a strictly legal sense but it is also morally and ethically repugnant. It inhibits progress of knowledge accumulation and demotivates real owners of intellectual property from pursuing intellectually creative work. It is a crime not only in the context of Wikipedia but also in the larger context of any scholarly publishing. It is a crime because the one who is copying is stealing the intellectual property that legally belongs to someone else and thereby is denying the other person his/her rightful place in the intellectual world. 2. I fully understand the impact and implications of copyright violations on the Wikipedia movement. Copyright violations by editors may put the entire movement in legal jeopardy and in deep legal trouble. I also understand that the Wikipedia cannot survive in its current form, where everybody can edit any article, without very strict vigil on unacceptable behavior like copyright violations. In fact, I thank God that Wikipedia movement is continuing to flourish thanks to the immense efforts and selfless services of those thousands of deeply committed volunteers. I want to see the movement continuing to flourish as long as the Sun and the Moon continue to shine. I am not only an editor of Wikipedia, I am also an avid reader of Wikipedia articles. My first choice to know more about any topic is and has always been Wikipedia. I have also supported Wikipedia in its fund-raising campaigns in my own humble way. I am mentioning this only to indicate that I am deeply committed to and interested in the continued survival and flourishing of Wikipedia in its current form. 3. As to my violation of Wikipedia's copyright policy with regard to the article titled "Sathyanarayana Beleri" I admit I made a mistake in not properly paraphrasing the content in the source referred to. I admit my mistake. It was my mistake. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact I am not a native speaker of the English language because of which my ability to paraphrase a paragraph in my own words may be below par. I know that this excuse is hollow. I mention only because it may convince you that whatever I have done was not mala fide and I was not trying in any way disruptive. Still I do admit that I have committed a mistake. I also admit that I have been warned several times before for such acts. I can only say sorry for that. I sincerely apologize for my misconduct. What I can say is that I was not being intentionally disruptive, I was not intentionally trying to put Wikipedia in trouble. In the previous times and also in the present context I had not even the slightest intention of being disruptive. I abhor even the thought of some Wikipedia editor being disruptive in the working of Wikipedia. 4. I request that I be given one more chance to be a proud editor of Wikipedia by revoking the indefinite block placed on me. I hereby give a solemn assurance that I will do everything possible, will do my best, to ensure that the articles I create are completely free of copyright violations in the future. It is further requested I be given one more chance to rejoin the legion of Wikipedia editors in the building up of the largest ever encyclopedia ever created. I am happy to point out that, towards this effort of creating the largest ever encyclopedia, I could contribute so far, more than 400 articles to Wikipedia and around 200 images to Wikipedia Commons. 5. Thank you for your patience in reading this far. Finally, I request once again that I be given one more chance to be a proud editor of Wikipedia by revoking the indefinite block placed on me from editing Wikipedia articles. Krishnachandranvn (talk) 23:25, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

You now seem to understand how copyright applies to Wikipedia and have shown an intention to follow our copyright rules in the future. Note I will be monitoring your edits. — Diannaa (talk) 13:59, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The above response shows that you understand what copyright is and why it's not okay to add copyright material to Wikipedia, but two of 331dot's questions remain unanswered:

  1. Tell us what Wikipedia's license is.
  2. Tell us under what circumstances it's okay to use copyright content on Wikipedia, and how you would go about doing so.

There's no need to add a new unblock request; just place your answer below. Thanks. — Diannaa (talk) 22:45, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A note on Wikipedia license

The text of the Wikipedia articles is copyrighted by the Wikipedia Foundation under the terms and conditions enshrined in the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (the CC-BY-SA license) and, if not specified otherwise, under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). These licenses grant the users of Wikipedia the freedoms comparable to the freedoms granted to users of free software. The fundamental freedoms enjoyed by a free software user can be summarized thus: freedom to run, freedom to copy, freedom to study and modify and freedom to distribute. Thus, the users of Wikipedia have the freedom to copy, modify and distribute the content of the Wikipedia articles. However, there is a further restriction indicated by the phrase "ShareAlike" in the title of the CC-BY-SA License. This stipulates that the granted freedoms can be utilized if and only if the newer versions obtained by applying the freedoms are also made available to others under the same license and the authors of the original Wikipedia articles from which the derived versions are created are also acknowledged. Providing a link to the original Wikipedia article in the derived version is considered as sufficient to satisfy this attribution requirement indicated by "ShareAlike".

The main document relating to international copyright is the Berne Convention. But this document is not a law and there is no "International Copyright Law" which is valid throughout the world. Hence, copyright laws vary from country to country. For example, a document may be out of copyright in the United States, but the same document may be under copyright in some other country. This definitely creates problems for a Wikipedia editor because he/she may not be 100% certain whether the material being copied is out of copyright. The safest, the noblest and the most creative course of action for a Wikipedia editor would be not to copy at all any text from any published material. However, this may not be always practical or desirable especially when the exact words used in the published document cannot be replaced without losing their true intent and spirit. In such circumstances, the expected behavior to put the copied text in quotes and provide the complete reference to the source from where the text has been copied. The copied text should be as short as possible.

I understand that, as a Wikipedia editor, I should not use any material that would infringe the copyright of any other person. I have always respected this dictum and have tried to practice it to the best of my ability, though, occasionally I may have unintentionally faltered in my guard in implementing this dictum. I also understand that the best practice in using material from other sources is to paraphrase the content in the source in my own words and present in the Wikipedia article with a reference indicating the source from which the content was paraphrased.

The page Wikipedia:Non-free content describes in meticulous detail Wikipedia's policy regarding the use of non-free content in Wikipedia articles.

I believe I fully understand the details of Wikipedia license. It is my belief that it was neither my lack of understanding of the terms of the license nor lack of respect for the provisions of the license, but the fact that I am not a native speaker of the English language that contributed to my (unintentionally) violating the copyright policies of Wikipedia. I request the functionaries of Wikipedia one last time to remove the block placed against me and help me contribute more and more to Wikipedia the greatest encyclopedia ever created. I assure them once again that I will do my level best to see that my contributions to Wikipedia lie within the parameters set by the various policies and guidelines set by the well-meaning functionaries of Wikipedia.

Thanks once again. Krishnachandranvn (talk) 23:59, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Achyutha Pisharadi a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Acyuta Piṣāraṭi. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you.
