Yoelmo

In Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/MSoldi, you expressed a desire for a more familiar admin to take a look at Yoelmo. I'm not an admin, but I'll take responsibility for checking it out since I opened the case (and, to be honest, I'm very surprised the checkuser came back negative). I'm having a few admins look at the hoax articles. So far, the answer seems to be that the original hoax spread out of Wikipedia, got reported in thousands of blogs and fansites, and Yoelmo's problem was that he got tricked, not that he intentionally created a hoax article. However, by letting himself be tricked, he created the appearance that he was the original hoaxer back again. I'll let you know if things change.—Kww(talk) 13:53, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

question

Hi Lucas, apparently I must have made an incorrect judgment on 134.240.241.2. It seems like 7/8 of the edits from this IP are vandalism to one degree or another...there have been more than 4 warnings this month. What do you suggest? Cheers,

Please do not remove vandalism warnings and blank pages. In this case you inadvertently concealed a problematic contributor site responsible for many acts of vandalism in many Wikipedia articles. Thanks,Stepp-Wulf (talk) 03:13, 1 November 2008 (UTC).

Hi Lucas, I replied again on my talk page yesterday but didn't want to bother you..it may help explain what Stepp-Wulf is seeing...personally, I'm just hoping to learn how not to make mistakes. Cheers,

RfA thanks

Hi Lucasbfr, and thanks for supporting my successful request for adminship. It was nice to see all the kind comments I got from my supporters and I hope that I will be more useful to the community now that I have the tools again.--Berig (talk) 15:53, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Template:SharedIPEDU

Hey Lucasbfr :). I don't see the point in this change. Could you explain, please? Thanks. :) —αἰτίας discussion 19:17, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Well, I don't quite understand. :/ If I do understand you correctly, you disagree with the "or longer"? In this case it would have been appropriate to remove just "or longer". But you removed the "up to 1 year" as well. Was that intended? I could still see a point in removing "or longer" —as you said how long is "or longer"?— however I don't see a reason for removing "up to 1 year". Thus, I think it would be reasonable to reinsert it. :) Best wishes, —αἰτίας discussion 23:56, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Page Deletion of Davezilla.com from Wikipedia

Re: http://deletionpedia.dbatley.com/w/index.php?title=Davezilla_(deleted_02_Jun_2008_at_21:01)

You mentioned that there was no evidence to support the legal battle against Davezilla.com. I admit the article should have included references. I would like to provide them in the hopes that the page can be restored (I would add them in, I am not expecting you to, just wanted to prove that this really happened. In fact, I am being interviewed by Wired about it again).

Hi, thanks for your message. I have restored the page, per our proposed deletion policy and included some of the links you provided (since they all relate to the same event, I don't think they are all needed). In all honesty, while I am sympathetic to your story (I now remember it ^^), I am not sure that the website is notable enough to meet our WP:WEB criteria. We'll see if someone is willing to challenge the article :). Cheers! -- lucasbfr talk 10:20, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

RE: Thx

Hey no problem at all! I was curious, how the hell does this user obtain random I.P. addresses so quickly? Funny thing is, i've clicked on WHOIS for some of the addresses and each of them are so different; one of them's located in Spain, another's for some university's network. Maybe this user has a bot-net? I'll look over your page any time, btw. Cheers Maxis ftw (talk) 10:00, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

RBI indeed...haha, well good bye for now. Maxis ftw (talk) 10:03, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Block duration

OK, I've got to ask. I reported ipVandal 216.162.22.136 and you blocked them with an expiry time of 1 year 35 days 3 hours. Why that very specific duration? Whimsy, or something deeper? Is there something about December 9, 2009 that I should know about? :) andy (talk) 15:58, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Semi protection

I was wondering if you would protect my userpage with the {{pp-semi-sock}} template so that new users and unregistered users could not edit my userpage. I am a little paranoid, if you say so, but i would like that type of protection to AVOID vandalism...thanks

Weird IP and being-blocked issues

Greetings admin Lucasbfr,

I am the user Shentosara. I am a frequent reader of Wikipedia (I rarely log into my account to do edits) and as such I occasionally find a typo here and there. When I do, I click 'edit section/page' and start correcting the errors.

Today I clicked the edit button again, and to my disgust I found a notice saying "Your IP has been blocked for abuse of editing privileges"

After more clicking of links, I was left in shock and awe. It appears that my IP address in Wikipedia is different from the one that my computer shows me when I access Command Prompt and type in ipconfig or ping. This is not the part that shocked me. The part that shocked me is that the IP address that Wikipedia says I am from(the one different from what Command Prompt told me) has been repeatedly disgustingly and rudely vandalising Wikipedia in several articles. I believe the vandal is from the same country as I am because I live in a small country and articles related to my home nation were vandalised by him/her.

To summarise: - The IP address Wikipedia says I am from 1) Is banned from editing 2) Has a bad history of vandalising Wikipedia 3) Is different from the one Command Prompt tells me.

What can I do to solve these problems?

I would appreciate any help.

P.S.: Do ignore my old text at my User Page which I wrote in the spirit of wilfulness when I was younger. Please leave your reply at my talk page or E-MAIL me. Thanks.

P.P.S.: I understand that in the past I had, in lieu of Wikipedia policy, broke some rules due to ignorance of the way Wikipedia works but I would just like to say I had no ill-intent. I am adding this note because I feel it may lead you to being biased about handling this matter. I can already imagine you saying "Oh boy, its just another idiot who loves going around vandalising articles then come crying to me appealing for an unblock with fake standard of English". I am not sure but...maybe use your Admin-Power to check what IP address I was on when this account was registered years back? I had to log in to Shentosara to write this on your talk page because there was absolutely no method to contact you - the IP address wikipedia says I'm from is blocked in just about every way.

Greetings again admin Lucasbfr,
I can no longer see the IP address that Wikipedia knows my computer as because the block was lifted shortly after I left the earlier message on this talk page. But if it will help, I am using an unsecured wireless home internet connection in a flat with 2 other computers. I am certain no other person in my household is vandalising Wikipedia so it may be network conflict of some sort with a neighbour's network connection or a neighbour is using my network connection illegally to vandlise Wikipedia.
Is there any way to check the IP address Wikipedia sees my computer as or do you have to block me again, for a short while perhaps, so I can see that IP address in question?
I can see my own IP address (as Command Prompt tells me) anytime if you need it.
Shentosara (talk) 16:47, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Reply to your 2nd message on my talk page.
Ok thanks for the tip. I tried it, and it says my IP address is 218.186.13.1 although keying in ipconfig in Command Prompt and hitting Enter shows me that my IP address is, umm..they show me two numbers. Ethernet adapter Wireless Network connection IP address is 192.168.2.100 while the Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection IP address is 192.168.2.101, All Of Which I Am Not Familiar With.
The talk page for 218.186.13.1 shows a lot of edit-reverts from pages I have not been to before, let alone edit.
So how can I make Wikipedia see my IP address as the actual one Command Prompt tells me?

Ok thanks lucas I think this is more or less solved, i'll just have to login every time i want to edit something because it appears that there is an incorrigible vandal on 218.186.13.1 >_<
Thanks again.

Nickname

i see the problem with my nickname, as far as i see it, there is one simple solution, how do i become a administrator on wikipedia? ;)

i can change my nick, if its that important and to avoid confusion, but i would rather become an administrator. im a really knowledgable dude from denmark, doing private research in tesla technology. looking forward to hear from you.

Cool things at the top of your User Talk page

Hello again Lucas!

On a seperate matter, I've noticed some interesting graphics at the top of this page. Stuff like {{busy}}. How can I add those to my user page? I can't seem to find the source from editing this page.

P.S.: I found {{busy}} from someone else's page.

Argh how do I type stuff without Wikipedia recognising them as mark-up?

I've uploaded an image for the "William J. Paugh House" page, a new page I've created for the Amador County, California National Register of Historic Places listing. None of the listed copyright options seem to fit this image. It's a digital copy of an 1850's lithograph. I own the original, and I guess it's in the public domain, as it's 150 years old.

Can you help?

Thanks for the speedy response. The drawing was done by the Nahl Bros., Charles and Arthur. Charles died in 1878, Arthur in 1887. I'll use PDold.

Can you please add azma.com to the Air Pollution wiki page, that site is by SDI health which has 600 employees, and runs pollen.com a well known pollen forecasting website. azma.com is updated daily with Air Pollution trends across the entire USA

Here is an animated trend map I just created to see the past 30 days of air pollution trends http://www.azma.com/images/maps/Daily_Map_Update/wow.gif

I assure you this site is accurate, does not have any advertising and helps 1,000+ people a day with the air quality forecast

RFCU

This: Wikipedia:RFCU#Request_for_checkuser and IP checks are malformed. Can you fix them? Thanks. RlevseTalk 14:29, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

A template I made.

My alternate account (NOT A SOCKPUPPET, PUT UP ALT. ACCOUNT NOTICE) recently made a template (like the {{repeat vandal}} template). I was wondering if you could:

a) Tell other admins and have them spread the word
b) Start using it
c) Protect it so that only I and the admins can edit it.

Thanks, --Encyclopedia77 (talk) 22:46, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Very stupid question: Errr, which template? :D However I do think that {{repeat vandal}} is a bad template, it is useless (if it's a user it'll be blocked indef shortly anyway, if it's a shared IP this is not welcoming to the innocent users there). I don't think any admin really considers this template before blocking. -- lucasbfr talk 14:09, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
I believe it's {{VandalNoticeSmall}}, which is rather ironic because, based on this user's recent edit history, there's a good chance it could end up on his/her talk page. Regarding {{repeat vandal}}, I was under the impression that this was meant more of a warning to the user whose page it was on, rather than as information for administrators. --AussieLegend (talk) 16:02, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it is VandalNoticeSmall. Sorry. Lost my brain.
