  2. information on the availability of the records on Commodore Lopez. In particular, are the records available to the public? If so, where are they located? (Nimitz Library? Collection name?) Probably helpful if you let Ms. Bryan know that you are needing the info on the records in order to properly cite the source.

Puerto Ricans in the Vietnam War

Tony, Ignacio Rivera (a Vietnam vet himself) claims that the Vietnamese thought of Puerto Ricans as mercenaries. He visited Vietnam about seven years ago, and claims that the guide who gave him the tour of the underground tunnels called them "The Iron People". True? Demf 15:03, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Hey Tony sir,

I would be very interesting in more stories from your time in South East Asia, if you ever have a spare few minutes and feel like talking about it. Once I have finished (and hopefully published) my current novel based during the Second World War (I ought to cast a Puerto Rican character in there in your honour!) I am hoping to write one set in Vietnam, as it is where my strongest interests lie. One thing that I personally would think odd would be to learn that students can have "historical interests" in something so defining as a war, so I wonder how you feel about that.

On a wiki note, Russian-Circassian War passed A class review but I have yet to hard a serious critic come along to help me with its flaws, Sandy Georgia (I think it was, from the Mozambican article FAC review) has yet to come back to me with anything. I you feel like taking a look, let me know! Hope you are having/had a good break.

Welcome back

Welcome back. Glad it was a good vacation.

It has been relatively quiet. One major loss — Looper5920 has decided to retire from Wikipedia. He has made so many amazing contributions to the body of articles, especially to the USMC coverage, aviation in particular. He will be greatly missed.

Concerning the Hispanic Admirals in the United States Navy article. The comment on the talk page about Uriah Levy is an interesting one. After reading your comments and addition, I've revised my comments on the talk page (as well as made some formatting changes to the citation). I've also sent you an e-mail.

Look, Tony. I know there's been some friction within the project lately because of the assessment discussion and everything, but time passes, and so do past arguments. I just think you are an invaluable resource to the Project, and it will suffer immensely without you. The Project has been stagnant these past few months, with just a handful of users dedicating time to it. I tried jump-start a few areas within the project to see if people would wake-up, but I'm worried I did more harm than good by doing so. So far, few users are really paying attention to the various sections, with the exception of you and Joelito. Both of you have been pioneers in the project, and your efforts and guidance have brought it to where it is now. I'm afraid that if either or both of you go, the project will not last long.
Nevertheless, I do understand that you are not merely an editor or administrator in Wikipedia anymore, but actually a liaison between many outside communities, including Wikipedia and Puerto Rican veterans, and your time will be very limited because of this. If this is the case, then I can understand completely why you wish to withdraw and support you all the way, albeit with grief. But if its for other reasons, then please... I appreciate your work in building my dad's page! I'm Michael Llenza, LT USN, from Santurce, PR, and my dad wanted me to fix some innacuracies in his page. He never sewrved in Korea, so he doesn't have any of the korean medals to include the united nations one or the commendation one my mom, (LTCOL Krystyna Llenza) has that one. I deleted the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal by mistake, he does have that one. He also has the Florida and the Puerto Rico National Guard Distinguished Service Medals. Expeditionary Strike Group Three

A few comments:

  • Since the ESG concept is relatively new (c. 2003), I wonder whether the date active should be that for ESG3 instead of COMPHIBGRU 3.
  • It is difficult to get a clear, concise description for a lead paragraph.
  • I think there needs to be a separate article that describes the ESG concept (joint USN, USMC)

Tony, you need to change your password and also change the password on any other account or service that used the same password. Thank You All

It is kind of funny because it really isn't my birthday. It was on March 9, but thank you all for your kind words and support.

As you all know, some hacker cracked my password and I have been stripped of my admin powers. I can understand an admin. being blocked, but stripped of his powers without a fair hearing or consensus, I can't. I have stated that I changed my password and would like my powers back, however the chastizing going on in [[2]] has sadden me. It doesn't matter how many articles you have written, contributions you have made or how many years you have dedicated to making this project a credible one. A hacker, it seems has the power of making people consider you an untrustful person and turning some people in the community against you.

I have never abused of my powers and I have used Wikipedia as a medium to educate others. Yes, I have no regrets about having made so many contributions to the Pedia. I exhort all of my friends here to make sure that their passwords are strong ones so that you will not have to go through what I am going through.

Hi Tony. I'm in agreement with the sentiments of ER and Stormie also. Looking at the bigger picture--we should all assume good faith here: there's no way that people like you are going to abuse their powers just because someone else cracked their passwords -- it's an absurdity, and those screaming shrilly will likely see this once they calm down. So yes, absolutely you should have your sysop bit back posthaste. I suspect though that it will take a few days for the dust to settle. Hi Tony - sorry to hear of all the problems - I have a feeling it nearly happened to me, too (I got one of those automated emails saying "you asked for confirmation of your password" a few days back). With any luck this should pass fairly quickly and full privileges will be restored soon... it's just a case of riding it out. Here in NZ we have a Maori saying, "Kia kaha", which literally means "stand strong" and roughly translates as "keep your head up, you've got support - don't let this get you down". I strongly reject the notion that Tony is canvassing nor trying to muster sympathy for a purported "re-sysopping cause". He has demonstrated in solid years of wiki experience that he's a straight, honest person, and I can hardly imagine "anyone" reading his note as anything but his sincere gratitude of other users' friendship and support. I'm positive Tony is the first one to understand that the storm must pass before this matter can be settled, but he's entitled to express his grief at these events - heck, who wouldn't be grieved in his place? Update on San Juan

I have been working on the page for the last week and I have done some significant changes; at the moment the page has about 70 refs I will still add some more, the "Notable Sanjuaneros" and "Diplomacy" sections have been turned into wikitables. I was a little reluctant to ceated a new "Sub divisions" section outside of "Geography" because what would remain in the section would be just one paragraph, so what I did was create a new "Districs" sub section to make it expecific. If you have time can you take a look and see if you can provide some suggestions this being my first time raising a page about a city means I am a little dull at doing it and some thing may pass by me, thanks for your time. -凶 01:11, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Baseball tour

Thanks for the note. My envy knows no bounds. :) I've actually been to most of those places at various times. I like the fact that you can (or could) park near Camden Yards and then walk to the Babe Ruth / Baltimore Orioles museum before the game if you give yourself enough time. The one thing I recall about being at the museum was catching one of their videos at the wrong moment and having to relive Tito Landrum's home run against the White Sox in the 1983 ALCS. Oh, I get it now--the action took place in April, and the award was given on December 8. Great article! Great story! I love reading about these kinds of things ... my own grandfather was wounded in the Meuse-Argonne, and I remember some of his stories of heroism, --of others, of course, he never talked about his own. Good thing he survived, for there'd be no "Antandrus of Wikipedia." I have a picture of his trench knife on that article. --Arranging that reunion was a wonderful thing to do. Tony, See this diff [4] of my recent edit to the Agustin Ramos Calero article. In reading the cited reference more closely, it5 appears to indicate, as I state in my edit, that the 2nd most refers to decorations for soldiers of Puerto Rican descent — this would include those from Puerto Rico and those from the States. I've been trying to uncover that. Seems that Modesto Cartagena is the most decorated, but his decorations are from the Korean War. Since the 1st is not from PR, then most likely didn't serve in the 65th Infantry. Surely the person who wrote the cited article would know? — ERcheck (talk) 21:59, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Promotion on retirement

Tony, I've never heard the "tombstone" terminology. (I just did a quick G-search on it.) However, in writing a great number of military biographies, I've found a number of instances that general officers were promoted one rank at retirement by virtue of their heroics in combat.
