Surface of the Earth
[edit]A tag has been placed on Surface of the Earth, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Booglamay (talk) 13:50, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

{{Fermanagh-geo-stub}}
[edit]Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. This is partly in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies, and partly so that those who regularly deal with stub articles know what stub types are likely to need re-sorting soon. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 01:23, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Republic of Ireland
[edit]Is that really necessary to add Republic of to the {{renewable energy by country}} template? What other Ireland is there? Northern Ireland is not a country and would not be included in the template. Lots of countries are RO name, but that isn't the common name and isn't included. 199.125.109.136 (talk) 06:07, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- There's Ireland. Mejor Los Indios (talk) 08:47, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- Ireland isn't a country, it's an island. The template lists countries, not islands. As you can see the template has already been corrected per wp:MOS (specifically IMOS). 199.125.109.136 (talk) 23:41, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Linking
[edit]Hey, please have a look at WP:MOS#Wikilinks. You've been adding far too many wikilinks to pages, and they look a little cluttered, basically! (For example, this edit to Bray Head.) Thanks. --Schcamboaon scéal? 17:55, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- You've already been called out on this, and yet your edit to North China Plain converted that article into a mass of useless wikilinks to articles on weather, area, square kilometer, flood, drought, cultural, political, etc. These are all junk edits with virtually no value to the article. There's no need to link every single word in the article to another article.
- No one is doubting the usefulness of wikilinks. The problem is when you add virtually meaningless links like weather, cultural etc. as I've mentioned above. A person reading an article such as this will want to get a better idea of related material, such as Beijing, Tianjin, and Bohai Gulf (which you DE-linked for some mysterious reason), but there's no reason to provide links to each and every generic concept found in the article, such as "river", "mountain", "weather", "horse", or "communication". This is supported by the following paragraph concerning overlinking:
- Overlinking includes:
- A large proportion of the words in each sentence being rendered as links.
- Links that have little information content, such as linking on specific years like 1995, or unnecessary linking of common words used in the common way, for which the reader can be expected to understand the word's full meaning in context, without any hyperlink help. (My italics)
- Your linking to common words is quite clearly overlinking as defined here.
Overlinking
[edit]Hi, please watch out for excessive linking of terms in an article, like in Etosha National Park. Common words like 'area', 'world', 'dust', and so on, should only be linked very rarely. Wikilinking is great and very powerful, but too much of it is a bad thing. Thanks! — BillC talk 22:53, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Connacht and Ulster categories
[edit]Last year you created a bunch of geographical categories relating to Ireland, all of which were merged to parent categories at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2008_March_29#Connacht_categories.
I just spotted on my watchlist that you have been busy recreating them, despite the consensus to delete. I am in the process of deleting the categories and reverting your related changes ... and please don't try recreating them again.
There was a clear decision on this less than a year, and recreating deleted content can lead to an editor being sanctioned for as disruptive and/or Tendentious editing. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 23:11, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
{{Connacht-geo-stub}}
[edit]Greetings! I see you have recently created one or more new stub templates or categories. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types be proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. This helps to reach consensus about whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Discoveries, where comments are welcome as to any rationale for this stub type. Please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals! Please note we already have templates for each county of Ireland.
