Archiving messages from SuggestBot

Not sure whether this has already been raised (I don't have time to go through all your archives), but your bot doesn't seem to archive messages send by User:SuggestBot. I'm not sure whether this is something I'm doing wrong (I tried the FAQ but couldn't find anything), or whether it is a bug. Could you look into it. Thanks --GW 12:07, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year!

Dear Misza13,

Wishing you a happy new year, and very best wishes for 2009. Whether we were friends or not in the past year, I hope 2009 will be better for us both.

Kind regards,

Archive debugging

Hi, if you have a moment, could you please take a look at User talk:Charles Matthews? I set up an archive bot there in the usual way, but it's never seemed to kick in, and I can't figure out what the problem might be. Any suggestions? Thanks, --Elonka 15:42, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A very ancient bug. The underscore in the archive parameter caused the bot to not recognize the archive as a subpage of Charles' talk page. I have ironed out the bug though, and now it works. Cheers, Миша13 17:38, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent, thanks for the quick work!  :) --Elonka 15:33, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Drama template

Are you going to write any guideline about how to determine the ratings in any more detail? Maybe you could label some past dramas to give us some idea? JoshuaZ (talk) 00:38, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's completely subjective. You can rate topics as you please. Pretty much anything related to Giano tends to be around 4 these days. I'm saving 5 for an extraordinary clusterfuck that has yet to occur. 2 would be for regular "dicoveries" of illegal adminbots. Read the descriptions for a clue. Миша13 10:38, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WdefconBot keeps removing something

Hey, Misza. Whenever I add the template {{pp-semi-template|small=yes}} to the vandalism information template, your bot keeps removing that template whenever someone has reported the level of vandalism from IRC, even when it's wrapped in the <noincludes>. I've tried to add the icon to the page as other templates have the template icon in the upper right. Why is this happening? SchfiftyThree (talk!) 03:06, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Because every time it edits, it replaces the entire content of the page with a predefined template. Миша13 07:40, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not-exactly-a-feature request

Misza,

Would it be possible to create a separate, very simple template-generating program for the archive templates? I'm thinking about something that asks, "What is the name of the page you want to archive?" -- "How old should the threads be when they're archived?" -- "What's the name of the archive file?" -- "Are there any existing archive files? If so, what's the number on the most recent one?" -- "What's the smallest number of threads that should be left on the page?" and so forth, through all the options (with defaults suggested). After answering all the questions, the user clicks a button and gets a customized template to paste into the top of the page.

I think it might reduce the number of malformed requests that you have to deal with, as well as making it more accessible to less technically minded users. On the other hand, I know almost nothing about this kind of programming, so it might be harder than I think. What do you think? WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:56, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that's a sound idea and one I've had in mind for a while too. I just never got the time to do it. Миша13 17:53, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

re:

Giving a thread a 'drama rating' only serves to increase drama; especially with a comment such as "batshit insane" appended. As for the edit summary about 'my meter', it was a reference that I did not believe that a 'meter' or 'rating' could serve any other purpose than escalating or exacerbating a situation. Thanks, neuro(talk) 16:12, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Must admit your rating made me lulz. Orderinchaos 05:11, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Full stop

My sig is followed with a full-stop, unlike the standard dated sig. Would it be possible for MizaBot to allow for this? Rich Farmbrough, 09:14 15 January 2009 (UTC).

It's not the full-stop that consfuses it. It's rather the lack of comma after the hour. If you don't plan on changing that, I'll see how I can tinker it to accomodate that (feels silly though to patch code used on several Wikimedia and non-Wikimedia sites just for one user >_>). Problem with MiszaBot I

Hi, Misza13! Problem with User:MiszaBot I I think. Chamal talk 12:06, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again! I saw the counter recorded "4" and changed it to "8". Hope this doesn't break anything. Chamal talk 12:14, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can you add archive searches to your templates?

Have you seen these input boxes for searching archives? There' pretty cool. They can be fit nicely inside archive boxes (see my talk page). Anyways, you should consider adding them to your templates, so it can all be done at once.

Thanks. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 22:32, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They're not my templates. Adjust them as you will but on your own. Миша13 22:34, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unresolved Disputes

Is there a way to keep sections containing unresolved disputes from being removed to archive from an article talk page? Thanks, Doright (talk) 08:37, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(just passing by) the only way I know is signing one of the comment on that section with a date on the future, like 2030, since the bot dates the section age by the date of the newest comment. I usually add a short comment at the top of the section with the text "dummy comment dated on the future so the bot won't archive this section", I save it, and then I edit the page again to change the date. --Enric Naval (talk) 15:30, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
