Welcome!

Hello, Pjgoslyng, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. Again, welcome!

I have suspended your addition of "Island Eddy" to the Kinvara article because they haven't achieved enough fame to have have their own article on Wikipedia. See WP:notable for the rules on this. You could try raising it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Irish music to see if there is support for creating an article (that won't get deleted as not notable!). --Red King (talk) 10:05, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Island Eddy

[edit]

Hello! Nice looking article you've got started at Island Eddy. I'd recommend removing the references to the previous name of the article from the text. I'm not too sure it's adding a lot at the moment. When you move a page an automatic redirect's put in place from the old name to the new one so any one typing in the old name will get this page anyway (try it :) ). I'll see about putting a hatnote at the top of Eddy Island so anyone typing in that name can find this article too. Ka Faraq Gatri (talk) 21:34, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Happy editing.  :) Ka Faraq Gatri (talk) 22:00, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikifying and other edits

[edit]

You'll notice that I've changed the markup to the wikipedia style - it saves editors from needing to speak HTML. Don't let that discourage you, use which ever you prefer and someone will tidy it up later. You'll see that one outcome is a nice automatic table of contents.

You will also deleted the names of individuals: Wikipedia doesn't normally include these unless it is a very notable person. See the WP:Manual of Style. I've also suspended a couple of paragraphs as these describe possibilities rather than realities. It will be very important to put the one about publication in the JGAS as soon as it happens, as it shows that the subject is real and not a spoof.

By the way, thanks for the additions to Kinvara Castle. There are some citation requests there which should be easy to supply given access to reliable sources. If you could find time to do so, it would be great. --Red King (talk) 19:35, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Mack.1.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Mack.1.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 23:06, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I see a note on the References section of the Island Eddy page to the effect that it is over-reliant on primary sources and to add more secondary sources.

It is the nature of island-histories that there are few secondary sources available so one must rely heavily on primary material, albeit fragmentary. The Wiki page for Island Eddy is becoming a secondary source for the island in that it is collating and presenting all the available sprimary source material.

Hi, Paul. A Wikipedia article cannot be a secondary source, because the content of all Wikipedia articles must be supported by reliable sources. Thus you can use a published source, even if you wrote it yourself, but you can't use the article as a repository of primary material. Deb (talk) 14:53, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Problem with your custom signature

[edit]

You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. A change to Wikipedia's software has made your current custom signature incompatible with the software.

The problem: Your preferences are set to interpret your custom signature as wikitext. However, your current custom signature does not contain any wikitext.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, or you can fix your signature.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box. (It might already be empty.)
  4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (The red "Restore all default settings" button will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

More information about custom signatures is available at Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing how everyone sees your signature. If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. 19:04, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
