Welcome to Wikipedia!

[edit]

Hello Red marquis/Archive 2, welcome to Wikipedia!

I noticed nobody had said hi yet... Hi!

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

You might like some of these links and tips:

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, Alf melmac 10:49, 27 November 2005 (UTC).[reply]

Just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work on the Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death) article. You've done a great job. Freikorp (talk) 23:18, 8 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

TFA query

[edit]

I'm scheduling TFA for January, and I've seen your Holy Wood request for the 5th. However, I have a birthday-linked bio that I'd like to run on that date, would you object if I scheduled it for a different date in Jan? Ping User:Homeostasis07 Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:44, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wow. Had no idea Holy Wood was up for TFA. I really have no opinions on this, so whatever Red Marquis thinks. The only suggestion I could make for an alternate date in January would be the 13th—the final US date of the Guns, God and Government Tour, which is also the performance included on the Live in L.A. blu-ray; if you wanna work it from that angle. Homeostasis07 (talk) 22:46, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fine with the reschedule User:Jimfbleak. I also like User:Homeostasis07's idea to push it back to the end of the GGG Tour. -Red marquis (talk) 07:22, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OK, i'm still working on the list, but it should be either 5th or 13th, depending what else fits Jimfbleak - talk to me? 07:40, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is to let you know that the Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death) article has been scheduled as today's featured article for January 5, 2018. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/January 5, 2018, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1100 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:22, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

😁 😁 😁. I'm so happy with this development. There are no further edits I can think of that the article needs. Thanks User:Jimfbleak! -Red marquis (talk) 14:32, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Marilyn Manson - WOW.ogg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Marilyn Manson - WOW.ogg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:02, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

[edit]

Hello, Red marquis. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

TGAOG reviews?

[edit]

Hey. Thanks for your recent edits to Manson album articles. I really appreciate your additions to Mechanical Animals especially, since it's one of the only Manson articles I've not gotten around to expanding yet (along with Smells Like Children and Eat Me, Drink Me). If you ever have a few moments to spare, could you do me a favour and see if you can find WP:RS's for The Golden Age of Grotesque#Critical reception? It's actually my least favourite Manson album, but of all of the Manson articles I've worked on, I believe TGAOG would have the best shot at FA... except that I've never been able to find enough decent quality reviews. You seem to be ridiculously awesome at finding sources, so if you ever come across some decent RS reviews for TGAOG, I'd love if you could post links to the album's talk page. It's cool if you don't have time, though. Thanks again. ;) Homeostasis07 (talk) 02:14, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited The Dope Show, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Valence (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Ahem

[edit]

If, hypothetically, one was using a browser extension which automatically substituted the name of an individual (let's call them, for the sake of argument, "Individual 1") for a derogatory nickname for that individual, it would be a wise idea to disable that extension prior to editing a Wikipedia article containing that individual's name. Just saying. CIreland (talk) 21:27, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Heaven Upside Down Tour Poster.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Heaven Upside Down Tour Poster.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 03:30, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please delete. Thanks. -Red marquis (talk) 02:15, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Red marquis/sandbox/Mechanical Animals Tour sandbox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.mtv.com/news/502862/cops-study-role-of-marilyn-mansons-music-in-teen-stabbing/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 07:04, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you just delete my sandbox? How am I going to find those sources and articles again? I just stumbled on those while researching another article. Is this how you treat contributors? Because if that's the case why bother contributing to Wikipedia? -Red marquis (talk) 20:42, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

User:Red marquis/sandbox/Dead to the World Tour sandbox, a page which you created or substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; you may participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Red marquis/sandbox/Dead to the World Tour sandbox and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of User:Red marquis/sandbox/Dead to the World Tour sandbox during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as User:Red marquis/sandbox/Dead to the World Tour sandbox, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images from either web sites or printed works. If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

See Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries for a template of the permissions letter the copyright holder is expected to send.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at User talk:Red marquis/sandbox/Dead to the World Tour sandbox saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved.

Fuck you. Give me back my work. I'll take it elsewhere. -Red marquis (talk) 15:59, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Deep breaths.

[edit]

It sucks when people assume your work is copyvio.

The AfD nominator is being less than polite with their behaviour, but it looks that there's consensus in favour of keeping your article.

Take a deep breath, step away from WP for a bit, maybe contribute elsewhere on the project until this all blows over.

Maybe try to tone down your angry comments, too - I get where they're coming from, but I think people are assuming you're a worse person than you actually are.

Best regards

Thanks for the encouragement. Yeah it sucks because it was only now, a month in, that I figured out the proper social/cultural context in which the article's subject matter exist in-and how to correctly frame it within that context. Having this whole thing suddenly threatened is just stressing me the hell out. -Red marquis (talk) 20:18, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Red marquis: - sorry about the behaviour of that user. It's incredibly unbecoming of a wikipeidan and I can get why you're frustrated.
Please do try to remain civil, mind. It's hard to figure out who's in the wrong with all the "Fuck you"s flying about.-- a. get in the spam hole | get nosey 22:06, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sandbox deletion

Copying within Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi, I've become aware of your conflict with RhinosF1 and other editors. I just wanted to let you know that copying within Wikipedia is acceptable, but only if you give the proper attribution for the copy (examples are on the linked page). There's nothing wrong with improving articles in a sandbox, but without attribution such copy/paste edits are considered copyright violations. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns about this. Primefac (talk) 21:55, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Attribute WHAT and TO WHOM? Guess who wrote most of what's on Mainspace? I DID! -Red marquis (talk) 22:07, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, an example would be Copying content from [[Special:PermaLink/####]] in order to improve content. Simple as that. If you're copying from your sandbox and you're the only one, then you obviously don't need to give attribution to yourself. However, you are not the sole editor to pages like Mechanical Animals and thus attribution must be provided. Primefac (talk) 22:12, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth, I highly suggest you stop editing Wikipedia for a minute. You've now ignored most of what I've suggested, are throwing around personal attacks at another editor, and if you keep that up you're likely going to be blocked for either blatant copyright violations, PAs, or both. Primefac (talk) 22:16, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • It is an "attack page", (See section G10 of the criteria for speedy deletion.)
Do not create pages that attack, threaten, or disparage their subject or any other entity. Attack pages and files are not tolerated by Wikipedia, and users who create or add such material may be blocked from editing
  • It appears to be a clear copyright infringement of See multiple previous discussions. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Excuse you. I AM the one whos is being harassed by that dipshit. MY SANDBOXES are being vandalized by him. -Red marquis (talk) 22:18, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Dude, you seriously need to take a chill pill. Go to WP:DRN or WP:ANI but stop with the personal attacks and maybe take a break. Praxidicae (talk) 22:19, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I know you may feel that it's vandalism, and I think that it's a little over the top to basically sit there patrolling your new pages, but it's not vandalism to point out edits/pages that violate our policies. Primefac (talk) 22:20, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Violate what policies? Again, I copied FREE content from within Wikipedia - Which I WROTE in the first place - to expand upon it. RhinosF1 simply doesn't like the content of the article. Period. -Red marquis (talk) 22:24, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Red marquis Read this. Praxidicae (talk) 22:26, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Just because it is free doesn't mean it's "free of copyright" - Wikipedia content is under copyright, one that requires attribution when copying its content. I highly suggest you read through the first paragraph of Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia, including Because of this, copying content from another page within Wikipedia requires supplementary attribution to indicate it. Just because you might have written most of an article doesn't mean you've written every edit, and thus if you are directly copy/pasting from one location to another you must give some sort of attribution as I described above. Primefac (talk) 22:26, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Now UNDELETE what you just deleted, Primefac. That contained original content from ME. -Red marquis (talk) 22:28, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
A chill pill? I already tried that and he continues to harass me and vandalize my work. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH. -Red marquis (talk) 22:28, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Then undelete it and I'm gonna add the fucking attribution. Like so: "copied content from page name; see that page's history for attribution"
Thank you for providing the attribution, though I would suggest that at its currently location you're likely to get more scrutiny than is really necessary. I would suggest changing it back to a slightly less aggressive (and more appropriate) title. Primefac (talk) 22:45, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
How about no? How about I am sick and tired of EVERYTHING you admins have put me through the past week. -Red marquis (talk) 22:48, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome to do as you wish. For what it's worth, not everyone commenting here (or in the other discussions) is an admin. Wikipedia is a weird place, and it's unfortunate that you ended up getting harassed without (as far as I can tell) not really knowing why. I do hope you take some time to read through the copyright policies and continue writing what appear to be very thorough articles. Primefac (talk) 22:52, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would continue writing if Wikipedia's Admins (or whoever) would just LEAVE ME ALONE. -Red marquis (talk) 23:09, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Obscene page titles

[edit]

I've moved User:Red marquis/sandbox/Fuck Wikipedia Admins sandbox to User:Red marquis/sandbox/Dead to the World Tour sandbox 2, as a more appropriate page title. I strongly suggest you read WP:UNCIVIL. -- RoySmith (talk) 15:21, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
