Top 10 Classic Rock Songs

I'm interested in taking part, but I'm not really sure what counts as classic rock. Some authorities seem to think it's just stuff from 60s and early 70s, others include contemporary artists. Also, should I aim to list stuff I think of as perfect songs, but am sick of, or weaker stuff that I actually still like to listen to? For example, I think Wuthering Heights is one of the best songs ever written, but I've not listened to it for years. On the other hand, I play the Gorillaz song Dare all the time, but I'd hardly describe it as one of the best songs ever written. So, am I aiming for stuff I actually like, or stuff I just think other people should like? Either way, a top ten is a bit tough. Magicalsushi 15:11, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Just wanted to drop you a quick note to say thanks for your work creating the footnotes, and I hope you saw the discussion and explanation for going back to the "Harvard style" references on the talk page of the FAC page. It seems the guy from the peer review who wanted footnotes was outnumbered and it really made everything else more complicated to do it right. 1-Do you know a riddle you like very much? Adapt it to the context of yor article and create a question on it.

2-Redundant questions are always a good way to improve your count. Ask about something interesting or controversial in your article.

One of my subpages (User:Spawn Man/Reviews) has been picked out by a big time editor & is now up for deletion here, Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Spawn Man/Reviews. I know it may sound like I only come around when I need something, but this is really important to me. I only did this as a last resort. Please vote to keep the page & I'll do anything, eat your shoes, clean your toilets for a year, even wear one of those t shirts that say I'm stupid! Others have touched on the vagueness of the term "classic rock". The most popular conception of the term--1970's AOR--finds exactly zero entries on my list, so I wasn't sure if I should even post this. But because of the vagueness of the term, and because I do see my list yields some overlap with those of other users, I will proceed. I will take "classic rock" to mean anything recorded in the "rock and roll" idiom up to and including 1980. (A somewhat canny definition, admittedly, since I listen to hardly anything after 1980.)

1. "Teenage Kicks" - The Undertones
2. "Waterloo Sunset" - The Kinks
3. "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay" - Otis Redding
4. "The Tracks of My Tears" - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
5. "September Gurls" - Big Star
6. "Walk Away Renee" - The Left Banke
7. "Friday on My Mind" - The Easybeats
8. "Boy About Town" - The Jam
9. "Shangri-La" - The Kinks
10. "Starry Eyes" - The Records (seriously!)

Immediate runners-up:

• 11. "Hey Jude" - The Beatles. Or, for that matter, almost anything by The Beatles. The most influential rock group of all time and one of my personal favorites, but their discography is so maddeningly consistent that nothing really towers above the rest, hence their absence from the Top 10.

Project news Since the Project began on the 4th March, 14 new articles that we know of have been created - to see a list and add any we didn't know about, visit the Project Log. We've had 2 front-page appearances, with Carl Lindstrom Company and Souvenir of Their Visit to America being listed in Did You Know? We've got underway classifying our articles and building a first class Project infrastructure.	Some project tips Stick the following template {{Template:WPBeatles}} on relevant articles. We have 500+ already but may have missed some! Use British/English grammar and spelling per Policy A few moments checking other editors contributions is always appreciated. Don't be shy on using the talk pages. It's where a lot of stuff gets decided. From the Editors Welcome to the inaugural issue of The Beatles WikiProject's newsletter! We hope that this newsletter will help members—especially those who may be unable to keep up with some of the rapid developments that tend to occur—find new things to do within the project that they may wish to participate in. Please consider this inital issue to be a prototype; as always, any comments and suggestions are quite welcome. Signpost The Project has got off to a great start but we really need your help to keep it going. Here's a few things you can do: Turn one of these links blue (let's aim to have at least half of them blue by next time) - Maureen Cleave, Dovedale Infants, The Family Way (film only - soundtrack is blue), Robert Freeman, Ken Townshend. Apple Records artists: Stephen Friedland (Brute Force), Chris Hodge, Radha Krishna Temple, Lon and Derek Van Eaton. Full list & further details. A small number of articles from the 1st batch still need to be classified (assessed). Some choice cuts remain, such as Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band! Batch 2 will start soon so let's get these done! Discussion is underway about what to do with History of the Beatles. If you're feeling really bold, you might even want to make a start on it! If you create a new article related to The Beatles, whether or not it's on the above list, please follow these instructions. It's nothing heavy, it just helps us Project-structure wonks keep track of things. Finally, if you haven't yet adopted an article for improvement, please see the list here. As the project is currently just starting, our more experienced editors are working on the project infrastructure, classifying articles, and listing/assessing red links. Your assistance is welcome. Policy Discussions: Individual songs vs longer album articles, Beatle wives, Merge/split proposals Project: Add {{WPBeatles}} to the talk pages of all Beatles-related articles. Send a newsletter to members, canvas for new members, and coordinate tasks. Enter articles classed as stubs into this list (under To Expand) and also list articles needing cleaning and other work here. If you complete one of these tasks, please remove it from the list and add your achievement to the project log.
