The description mentions that you have obtained permission. I am assuming that means gfdl permission and I have marked it as such. (with a note saying that the gfdl only applies to your digitization.) If you can confirm this I would like to submit this one as a featured image. Thanks again. Thanks for the message. I hadn't added a copyright tag to that image yet as I'm still trying to understand each type. For that image how do you ensure the artist is protected whilst still letting people use the image? Or is that what you have done by using gfdl, but specifying it for the digitization? Under the gfdl the artist is protected in a number of ways. The gfdl would apply to the digital image that you uploaded, not to the original painting. Now I could use that digital image freely, even commercially but that wouldn't give me rights to the painting. Moreover, if I was to redistribute the image in any form I would have to pass on those gfdl priveliges to anyone who received the image. Moreover she keeps her right to due credit and other moral rights. The effect of these burdens is to ensure that the image remains free.
Wikipedia basically only allows gfdl or public domain images - So if we have permission that must be gfdl permission. When asking for permission we must always make clear that it is not just for wikipedia, it is a request for a gfdl release. Image:Land ocean ice lights 2048.jpg is a dimmer duplicate of Featured Picture Image:Earthlights dmsp.jpg. The higher uploaded resolution is probably of little use, and source has higher resolution available. If you decide you no longer need the image, there is a deletion process described in Help. Also, if you look at the other image you'll see there is a NASA attribution tag that identifies the license status of such images; such license tags are mentioned on the Upload File page.   • To delete an image, click on the Help link in the box on the left side.
    • On that Help:Contents page, find the section Modifying_a_Wikipedia_page.
    • A little more than halfway down is the link to How to delete pages/images/categories.
      • The standard Wikipedia method is that there is a page in which to list the thing (article or image) to be deleted. You make an entry for the image and a summary of why it should be deleted. You also put a notice on the image's description page that it is listed for deletion. Then there are several days for people to comment on the proposal or for the problem to be resolved. Ireland[edit]

I didn't remove your contribution because I thought it was not worthwhile, but because it was in the wrong place. Information about the Republic of Ireland would be better placed at the article on the Republic of Ireland - and there is already information there as well as a link to the CIA Factbook article. The name Éire is given in the Constitution of Ireland as the Irish language name, with Ireland being the Irish language version; historically speaking Éire was the first official name in both languages between 1922 and 1937, and thus it has stuck in Britain describing the South (see Éire). The offical names Éire and Ireland are both accurate in describing the Republic, but are unclear, therefore using the State's offical description is more appropriate than using Éire. -Gabriel Beecham/Kwekubo 21:20, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Just to let you know that your image Image:GreencastleHarbour_2004_SeanMcClean.jpg is coming up for Pic of the Day on the 13th June. You can check and correct the caption at Wikipedia:Picture of the day/June 13, 2005. In particular I wasn't sure whether to credit yourself for the photo-credit, or change it to and image-credit and Sheila McClean. However, since I'd mentioned Sheila McClean in the caption, I figured it was best to credit a Wikipedian's contribution too.

Thanks for your message, I'm flattered with your opinion of me! (I'm only in yr 10) I have started selling my photos a bit, but I don't really see it as my life job - just a nice interest.

I don't think a photo has to be only one photo to be a FP, Auto Exposure Bracketting is a common tool for photographers (you take a normal exposed photo, an under exposed and an over exposed and then merge them in photoshop using the best parts of all of them. In the cas of the Loy Krathong photo, I'd find no problem whatsoever that it's two photos - my only kick against that photo is the blurriness/noise of it.

My favourite photos in your gallery are the LeemingSunset, PortJackson, UpperHunter (beautiful blue sky) and ShipApproachingGreencastleLoughFoyle (I think this is your best). I like the top fueller photo as well but I can understand that it would be hard to identify the track as Kwinana Quit Motorplex, but it is a good photo considering the dark conditions and the speed of the subject.

My recommendation to you is to uplaod all the photos you think can possibly be usefull to someone, as by doing this, even if they don't go onto a page, you can enrich society/wikipedia by giving them a good seletion of stock photos. Like I don't see much in my Irrigation dripper photo except that it could be handy to a city boy who wants a photo of irrigation for a school project.

Edinburgh Zoo[edit]

Hey reisio, many thanks for the input on this page, many improvements there. Any idea what I should do about the images I've uploaded given that the actual images names don't reflect the correct names? Is it a case of delete and upload or just update the description pages? The only image with a filename that's actually wrong (afaik) is the one for the Rockhopper penguins (which is currently labelled Emperor); the rest are just not as specific as they could be. It's no biggie, though, I've a perfect out...
Since you're licensing all these images with GFDL, just reupload them all to WikiMedia Commons (where they should be), and this time take care with their filenames. Replace the image links in the Edinburgh Zoo article with the new Commons images. Then toss the not-so-greatly-named ones here on en-two.iwiki.icu into a post @ Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion, saying that they're no longer being used and have been replaced/obsoleted by Commons images with better filenames - mention that you are the original uploader, too. ¦ Reisio 08:42, 2005 July 23 (UTC)

Compliments will get you everywhere! I was planning to do that when I had the names sorted out. Dunno if you saw the request on the helpdesk or just came across the page? I have held off from uploading to commons as I have uploaded a fair amount of pictures to the wiki and if I start, I feel I would need to do them all. Unfortunatly i had uploaded a fair bit by the time I became aware of commons. Are you aware of any tools - admin or otherwise that would make it a bit faster? I saw it at WP:RD, yes. As for the fair bit of noncommons - there's no rush, take your time. You also don't _have_ to, it'd just be nice. Other people might even do it for you, eventually (if the licensing info is available/acceptable). Me again... "What is it now?" you say. Well I uploaded the rest of the decent shots I took that day and put them in the gallery - it may be overkill but the pics are there for other uses now if wanted by anyone. The problem is I can't identify the penguins again...East African grey crowned crane & Pygmy Hippo are correct, but the otyher two I'm unsure of. The official site doesn't actually note all the types of penguins they keep. Any ideas?

Best guess is that the one swimming is a Gentoo Penguin (not a lot to see in that photo, but the bright white on head makes it likely), and the other is a juvenile Yellow-eyed Penguin. ¦ Reisio 13:14, 2005 July 23 (UTC)

Btw there's a two-year-old inventory list on their site [1], which supports the notion that they'd (still) have Gentoos. Yellow-eyed is still just my best guess for the other, but I think it's a pretty safe bet - compare Image:Penguin_Edinburgh_Zoo_2004_SMC.jpg with this image I found online. I also read that juveniles do have lighter heads like that (and a quick Google image search corroborates). Maybe some expert will stop by sometime and verify it. ¦ Reisio 21:27, 2005 July 23 (UTC)

Bloody Sunday[edit]

That sounds fine. There was no real obvious section in which to put the photo; my main concern is keeping 2 or 3 photos from being right on top of one another at the start of an article, pushing the text away. This happens often, and it always looks bad (this is particularly egregious when there's plenty of room further into the article). I do, however, think that when there are photos in an article it looks best when one is right at the beginning (usually the best picture, even if might be slightly more appropriate in a later section). I thought the banner one fit the bill, so I put it right at the start. This isn't terribly important in the grand scheme of things. If you want to make some changes I have no strong objections, as long as not everything is placed at the top. -R. fiend 15:15, 25 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Global cities[edit]

Hi Sean. Thanks for the comment and the link. I think it's seductive to say that Mumbai is a "global city". For the rich, I suppose it is. For the majority of its population, it certainly isn't. But it's fair enough to include it. KL, well, if you really think so, no worries. I was really just concerned that anons would rock up, add their favourite city, feeling piqued it wasn't on the list, without actually reading the discussion. But I'm not so hardcore about it that I would revert a clearly good-faith edit. BTW, you put your comment on my user page. Derry murals[edit]

Hi Sean,

I wish I had spotted your photo of this mural last weekend. There was a request on Talk:Main Page for a better image to with the IRA news story. Instead I had a bash at Image:Derry murals 5 detail.jpg, using one of the photos of murals on the Commons:Derry page. - and as you can see the results weren't much good.

Sean, I think it may have been me you saw in Placeopaedia - I added a few links like Garden Island, Rottnest Island which automatically got linked back to Wikpedia - I had forgotten about that :-).
Re the image tags: I suppose it depends on how close to the original yours is - and I haven't seen the original so cannot really comment. Being original artwork as opposed to a photograph, I would think you'd probably have to favour thinking that copyright still stayed with the original artist if your iamge has the same style, shapes, colours etc. IANAL, but I'd leave the image untagged until you can either get permission from the artist or photoshop until it's unrecognisable from the original. Hmmm. Same shape, same patterns, but diff colour, diff background and inverted. I suppose you've got to ask yourself the question: if you were the original artist would you be peeved that the derived version was infringing your copyright? I suggest posting both images (use a ":" in front of the image tag, like [[:Image:P4022296.JPG]]) to WP:CP#Fair_use_claims_needing_a_second_opinion with the story of where you sourced it and how you got your version and see what others think. Sean, according to WP:CP#Fair_use_claims_needing_a_second_opinion your derived image is a copyright violation, so I guess that means we'll need to delete it. I can do that if you'd like. As far as the articles are concerned, we could use the photo of the sign instead, which would be OK - it just needs a copyright tag from you, such as {{GFDL}} or {{PD-self}} -- Ian ≡ talk 01:05, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your thoughts please[edit]

Sean, gosh that was a long time ago [2] (Dec 2003) - I'd completely forgotten about it. Your article on Robin Miller looks great - well done. Do you know if Robin and her husband Harold Dicks, were parents (or grandparents maybe) of sailor David Dicks, because I vaguely remember reading something about his late father having something to do with the RFDS? Just in the process of moving from one part of the Darling Scarp having been family home for 42 years (wow calculate that) and a bit further closer to MDG, which means the hundreds of jpgs on my old slow imac which are sitting unused need an excuse as welll  :) . possible "needs work" stuff would be the parts of the darling range (argh, I keep reverting that when I see it in the scarp art)that I dont frequent (I hang around the north flank of the point where the helena river leaves the scarp, ie greenmount hill and behind) - so I suspect Goose Hill and the zigus zagus, Kallie mundo, and south probably dserve a check out. Also, I suspect that with a good zoom (my little one dosnt have very good zoom) some good shots of city and airport from kallie and goosey (my shot on the sw c plain stub is from my to be left behind garden). I gotta go before I get any worse. Cheers!


Wee moth beasties...[edit]

Hi Sean, I think I might know what the moths on your page are. Living here in Perth we often get the beasties in the house, and so your photos inspired me to do a bit of research. I've a feeling that they are of the species Carthaea saturnioides and a Google image search will show a moth very similar to the ones we get in the house. They are also ONLY found in the south west of Australia, and I've a feeling that any differences in wing pattern are probably due to environment, so don't be overly concerned that the moths aren't identical.
