May's Metro

Hi. I'd be happy to help with the Metropolitan Issue 13. I'm pretty much available all day for the next two weeks. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 15:34, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I'm sorry but with all my exams coming up in the next month (A levels), I haven't the time. As you can tell from my contributions, my edits have been scarce in the past 10 days. I wish I could help, but I really have to be revising! Thanks. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 19:57, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

I did not put on the template on the picture. I uploaded it and i created it on the computer. It is not exactly the same as the official mock-up. Please can you remove the template off the picture. A1personage (talk) 16:32, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey, I forgot to put this on your talk page yesterday, but I've taken up your bot request and am currently coding it. It's about 50-60% complete. You can see the progress of your request at Wikipedia:Bot_requests#Rail_usage.

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

That was for your incredibly unforgivable pun. No more! Nutiketaiel (talk) 20:43, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

May Metro

Hope I haven't let the side down too badly. As there's not been much actually happening, I've left a fair bit of the material from the last issue in; feel free to take it out if you think it makes it too similar to the last one. – iridescent 18:08, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

My suggestion for your next "guest editor" would be DavidCane, if he's willing; as the author of large chunks of our London Underground articles he obviously knows his stuff, and it might be interesting to have someone coming at it from his "early history" perspective. – iridescent 20:05, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Maybe, but as L07ChLeo3 has shown a previous interest, i am going to see if they are interested in doing No. 14 Simply south (talk) 20:46, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
He'd be good – although I wish he'd change his name to something more memorable. One of the "bus people" might be good, as well; we do have a tendency to be "WikiProject Tube Trains". – iridescent 22:19, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Per your somewhat discrete request Iridescent I have changed my username to Crest of London I think this is memorable and I would like to help out with No 14 please. Crest of London (T|C|A) 10:46, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Dollis Brook Viaduct

I will look in the local library for any books with relevant information. Is there any specific info you would like to know? Nice job with the article btw. -Grim23 (talk) 19:18, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

I've corrected the history slightly - the Finchley to Edgware section of the line was the original route not a branch from the High Barnet branch. And I've added an image of the inside of the arches. Not sure what more I can add. --DavidCane (talk) 01:40, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
As requested, I have had a look at the article, made some copyedits and directed the architectural terms to the appropriate articles. I have also done the geology ones, as I studied that once upon a time. --DavidCane (talk) 23:47, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Dollis Brook Viaduct

Hello! Your submission of Dollis Brook Viaduct at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know!

Explanation: Don't panic! I just commented on the fact that you used {{convert}} to display the height, and that the result doesn't actually match the LU source ref'd. (ie the hook shows 59ft rather than 60ft)

The moment I saw this article I thought 'DYK'! (Would have been my second London viaduct nomination, out of 6 DYKs...)

Hurrah for obscure railway topics!! -- EdJogg (talk) 11:55, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

PS - I don't have the DYK talk page on my watchlist as it creates too much noise, so please respond here if you wish me to contribute/discuss further.

Thanks -- EdJogg (talk) 12:05, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

I haven't used that template in the past. However, the tfl link does say 60ft. Btw, who changed the 60ft to 59ft (i originally put 60ft)? And also, with so many do you think that bridge is some sort of mutant? Simply south (talk) 16:59, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
Well, if you wrote it as 60ft, you presumably won't mind the hook being changed to match!
(BTW 'convert' is not mandatory, but it does save a lot of effort, usually)
Not sure what you mean by "...with so many [what?] do you think that bridge is some sort of mutant?".
EdJogg (talk) 18:22, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
Feet. Simply south (talk) 18:53, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
Well, it's certainly very 'leggy'... -- EdJogg (talk) 22:11, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

In the civil engineering book, Walter Brydone is described as chief engineer, but it does not clarify whether that is civil or not. Simply south (talk) 17:20, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

That's OK. The inline comment can remain for future editors to consider if we cannot give him a definitive job title. EdJogg (talk) 17:36, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Btw, would you say the new image (a cropped version of the Northern Heights plan) is okay? Simply south (talk) 18:02, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Very nearly. I'm being really picky mentioning these, but I'll let you decide whether any additional work is worth the effort:
  1. For a start you've labelled it "Dollis Road Viaduct", which doesn't match the article name (although is noted as alternative).
  2. Also, since it is mentioned, some indication of the location or direction of Finsbury Park might be in order, although this can be determined (with a little thought) from the text.
  3. Burnt Oak has been rather harshly cropped: would be less obvious if the cut had not fallen across the station
Thank you for doing this. I think this map really helps sort out how the geography relates to the history...
EdJogg (talk) 00:28, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
I labelled it as Dollis Road as according to both ICE sources that appears to be its official name, although according to some others Mill Hill Viaduct is also quite official. Dollis Brook Viaduct is a very common name for it. I don't think there will be any consensus on which name to use. Simply south (talk) 13:26, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

I've taken the liberty of replacing the diagram with an extract of the 1934 Ordnance Survey map marked up to indicate the location of the viaduct. --DavidCane (talk) 01:31, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, that'll make the location more geographically accurate. Simply south (talk) 13:26, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
I've taken the liberty of putting it back again! The OS map is good for locating it precisely, but doesn't help in understanding of the accompanying text. Both maps serve different purposes.

Yea, thanks for the work! I was out camping for several days, so I wasn't able to respond. Whoever assembled the queue in the preparation area missed your credit. I took the ill-prepared set of hooks and moved it to main page. It's difficult to double check everything and things do definitely get missed. I check more carefully for terrible grammar in the hooks and for unsourced controversial statements. Please accept my apology for the omission and thanks for bringing it to everyone's attention. You deserve the proper credit! Royalbroil 01:45, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Decision Question

I am curious as to why you approved, in this decision, Juliancolton's suggestion as having consensus. By my count, it features two editors speaking in support (pjoef and juliancolton) and one speaking in opposition (myself). Unless I missed something. Nutiketaiel (talk) 13:33, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey. I'm halfway through July's edition, and I wanted to see what you thought so far. I've added a bit of colour to the assessment section, I hope that's alright. The only parts I'm unsure of are the 'General' introduction bit and the 'Did you know...' bit. I'd be grateful if you could explain what I'm meant to do in these sections.
I hope to finish it tonight. Cheers! Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 19:25, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
