Chernobyl Disaster Article

[edit]

Thanks for your work on the article. I totally believe what you said about Fukushima being a level 7 disaster, but do you have a source article we can put on there for a foot note? I'm not questioning at all what you are saying, because I know that, at least in terms of the radiation released, it is at least as serious. Both of them are very terrible events. Thanks again. Jazz

[edit]

I see you have made contributions about several of the artists on Motéma Music. I'm Motéma's resident Wikipedia guy because I know Wikipedia's guidelines, but I'm a new employee to the label and don't have that much knowledge of jazz, so it's often difficult to construct the articles in the proper, non-pr Wikipedia manner because I see so much boilerplate about them. Our main purpose for Wikipedia articles on our artists is credibility, not promotion.--Scottandrewhutchins (talk) 20:45, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, such as on User talk:95.148.169.224, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. Your GA nomination of Kappa Kappa Psi

[edit]

The article Kappa Kappa Psi you nominated as a good article has failed ; see Talk:Kappa Kappa Psi for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of the article. Redtigerxyz Talk 11:38, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Renomination would depend on things you remove. Also, all statistics should be cited, I have only added [citation needed] tags at some places. Also elaborate "that provides service,[5][6][7] leadership opportunities,[8][9][10] and social programming" in the main text. Please handle the image issues too: prove that they do not constitute derivative works or remove them. A deletion of some images is requested at Commons. --Redtigerxyz Talk 16:26, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"F. Lee Bowling was elected Grand President of the fraternity in 1941 and presented a plan to hold a national intercollegiate band concert, modeled after the Rocky Mountain intercollegiate bands. The plan was endorsed by the delegation to be executed at the next national convention in 1943. However, due to World War II, the 1943 and 1945 national conventions were not held, and so the first National Intercollegiate Band was formed and gave a concert in 1947." Dates un-cited. --Redtigerxyz Talk 16:44, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I see that you're a relatively new editor (>350 edits), and I just wanted to give you a note of encouragement. All in all, you are going a pretty good job in getting the Kappa Kappa Psi material up to a decent quality. GA is a pretty difficult standard to satisfy, especially on such a broad topic as a national fraternity. If I ma make a suggestion, try asking for a Wikipedia:Peer review or two before attempting a GA nomination. That process is much more collaborative than the pass/fail GA. I would be glad to give the article a good review, if you like.--GrapedApe (talk) 05:38, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello LazySofa, I just wanted you to know that I reviewed the Kappa Kappa Psi in the last few minutes, which was nominated by you for GA. I didn't find too many problems, except that some parts of the article is lacking citation. All of my comments can be read here.--12george1 (talk) 23:14, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello! Your submission of Template:Did you know nominations/Kappa Kappa Psi at the Did You Know nominations page is not complete; see step 3 of the nomination procedure. If you do not want to continue with the nomination, tag the nomination page with {{db-g7}}, or ask a DYK admin. Thank you. DYKHousekeepingBot (talk) 15:57, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The references that you have to the respective membership guides show quite clearly the year, city and Hotel/University for the convention (good going), but the dates for the conventions appear to be completely unreferenced. What is your reference that, for example, the 1971 convention was held from August 22nd to 27th?Naraht (talk) 02:13, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Liberty University is *not* a district exception, I think you copied it wrong. Liberty University is in Lynchburg Virginia, which means that it is in the Northeast as it should be.Naraht (talk) 02:23, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I know this is going to be your goal to improve this article; I have some specs on the ΛXA flag and other things you can use. I am not sure if you were extracting files from PDFs or not, but I also work on vector graphics and can get stuff done for you. Fraternally yours, User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 02:24, 25 June 2012 (UTC) (ATΩ)[reply]

What I can tell about the LCA flag is it is going to be the same size as the US flag (1:1.9) and I can easily use Pantone or Hexadecimal (I will use both formats and show you and see which one works best). I can also fix the coat of arms to whatever format that you have chosen for the article. However, do you want me to use your colony's designation (Iota Epsilon) or just pick a random set of letters? Plus, personally speaking, I know how it is to be a colony guy (I am a Founding Father of the ATΩ Chapter at Arkansas Tech, so I know how hard it is to start and sustain a colony in order to get that charter, and also know how to get things done on a shoestring budget). Speaking of ATU, I managed to get a hold of a friend of mine (she is a sister of TBSig and also Phi Mu) and see what numbers I can get. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 02:50, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think if you use the hex numbers from the LCA style guide (full version here: https://www.lambdachi.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/2011styleguide.pdf) that would look the best. If you wanted to use IE, that'd be neat. :) Sycamore (talk) 03:03, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and used Iota Epsilon for the flag; it only took a few minutes to figure out where on the fly edge the letters must be, but I got it now. Let me fix the flag into hex (and also arms), so give me an hour or so on both. I wonder what is LCA's national philanthropy? User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 03:06, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The Coat of Arms should be proper hex colors, I added that a couple months ago. LCA's national philanthropy is the North American Food Drive, with about 1.5-2 million pounds of food donated annually. Sycamore (talk) 03:09, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
We don't have a National Philanthropy for ATΩ (but we have the Fibrolamellar Cancer Foundation and a local food bank as our philanthropies). We don't have a LCA anywhere on campus at Tech (but there is a chapter at the University of Arkansas, which I am 45 mins away from). I am also looking at the coat of arms image and so far, it does use the colors as it stated on the style sheet (but I am going to have to fix the flag colors since the flag spec sheet colors and the logo style colors do not match, as you can see with the sheet you linked me and http://pdf.crossandcrescent.com/graphics/lca_sheet3.pdf). I should have both flags fixed in 20 mins. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 03:17, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kappa Kappa Psi FAC

[edit]

Hi Sycamore. Sorry, but I don't like to support articles at FAC when I haven't read the entire piece, which is the case here. Just because a spot-check I did checks out doesn't mean the rest of an article is necessarily FA-worthy; only going through it makes me want to say that. I can review it further if you want, but I'm not sure I can get to it before Thursday. If that's okay with you, I'll read through at least some of it then. Reviving WikiProject Marching Band

[edit]

Are you familiar with WikiProject Marching Band? The project is largely inactive, although articles related to marching bands, marching music, and march composers have continued to be maintained by several enthusiastic editors who remain unaffiliated with the project. Do you know of any reasons why the marching band project has stagnated? If you'd like to try jumpstarting the project, the Signpost would be interested in following your progress as a special report in the WikiProject Report. Main page appearance: Kappa Kappa Psi

[edit]

This is a note to let the main editors of Kappa Kappa Psi know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on November 27, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/November 27, 2012. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Crown Pearl Badge of Kappa Kappa Psi

Kappa Kappa Psi is a coeducational fraternity for college and university band members. The fraternity was founded on November 27, 1919 at Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College in Stillwater, Oklahoma by ten band members led by William A. Scroggs and Professor Bohumil Makovsky, and was incorporated on March 5, 1920. Since its founding, Kappa Kappa Psi has established several programs for the betterment of college bands and band music, including the National Intercollegiate Band, a band that has performed at every national convention of the fraternity since 1947; and the Commissioning Program, which has contributed dozens of works to the band repertoire as a national project and hundreds more from local chapter commissions. The fraternity holds a close relationship with its sister sorority, Tau Beta Sigma. More than 66,000 men and women have been initiated into Kappa Kappa Psi since 1919, including United States President Bill Clinton, John Philip Sousa, Neil Armstrong, and Dizzy Gillespie.
