Speedy deletion of HeathenPlaces

[edit]

A tag has been placed on HeathenPlaces requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for web content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. TrulyBlue (talk) 15:47, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I've seen your post on my talk page, User talk:Accounting4Taste and User talk:Neo-Jay and responses. I didn't respond earlier as I am not on wikipedia 24/7, despite what my partner thinks. I'm hoping that you understand that there is a speedy patrol of new pages, I tagged your article for deletion and someone else, agreeing with me, did the deletion. In this case the message above explains my reasoning, and points to the relevant policy: the criteria for a notable web site. As I recall, HeathenPlaces' only assertion of notability was that it had 200 users. This is not a large number, certainly nothing to make it notable. If you think the website meets the criteria please do write a new article with evidence for that notability and it won't be deleted. Here are some other policies and guides that may be helpful:
By the way, your sig comes out as an indecipherable series of characters on my screen - maybe I don't have your fonts or something, but I suspect it would be the same for others. If that's not what you want, you may want to think about changing it. Anyway, good luck in creating an article for HeathenPlaces that meets the criteria. TrulyBlue (talk) 14:56, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There are various levels of article acceptibility for inclusion, and various processes for deleting. Those failing to meet the basic criteria are subject to speedy deletion; then there's a proposal for deletion, or a full deletion discussion. Anything failing to include an "assertion of notability" is subject to speedy deletion by an administrator - that's not a 'witch hunt', it's a docimented but speedy process. The speedy deletion process is there to filter the huge number of poor quality articles about non-notable subjects that are posted each day: see the new page list. If you create an article about HeathenPlaces with an assertion, it won't be speedied. If you include references to prove its notability, it won't be PROD'ed or AfD'ed. As for your sig, I recommend using a commoner font, as few people will have your selection installed. regards, TrulyBlue (talk) 09:19, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Signature

[edit]

Greetings! While I don't fault you for using Unicode characters in your signature, it is a range of characters that is not commonly readable. Might I suggest that, along the lines of WP:SIG#Non-Latin, you supplement the runes with a Latin rendering of your name? That would make it a lot easier for editors to work with you, e.g., in discussions on article talk pages. —C.Fred (talk) 12:41, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jamie Lee Curtis

[edit]

I have reverted your edit to the JLC talk page. The matter to which you refer is nothing but a cruel and malicious unsupported rumour that has dogged Ms Curtis for over 20 years. The only attributed mention by an eminent plastic surgeon was in fact removed from his paper before publication, when he discovered his information was wrong. The story is simply not true and must not appear in the wiki article in any form whatsoever as per WP:BLP (including discussion on the talk page). Such edits by mostly sniggering adolescents have been removed on almost a daily basis ever since the JLC entry was first written. 21st CENTURY GREENSTUFF 13:31, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please be aware that our Biographies of Living Persons policy applies outside of article space, and comments such as [1], indicating that you would like to see a page revision restored that contains defamatory content towards a living person does nothing to show your respect for this policy, the community's standards of behavior or this encyclopedia. Please refrain from such comments in future. Article talk pages are solely for discussing improvements to the article, and not for anyone to voice their personal opinions on an article's subject, especially when those opinions are defamatory or libellous. I would just like to say your knowledge in old English is very good, maybe even one day old English can even become a internationally recognized language, are you an Anglophile by any chance?86.148.130.248 (talk) 23:51, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldnt say Anglophile, but I do study into my own heritage. If it interests you, be sure and visit the Old English Wikipedia to see it used in the modern day. —ᚹᚩᛞᛖᚾᚻᛖᛚᛗ (ᚷᛖᛋᛈᚱᛖᚳ) 04:29, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Spiders in Virginia

[edit]

Not sure what you are asking about. However insects are generally not classified by every state in which they exist. Also, this would not be your category but one for the encyclopedia. Vegaswikian (talk) 02:08, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Modern birds

[edit]

Well, all birds descended from a single common ancestor, so technically they're all equally similar. If you mean which modern bird most resembles the ancestor of all birds alive today, I would probably say gulls. Most evidence right now suggests that the ancestor of all true birds was a gull-like sea bird similar to Ichthyornis. The major difference would be lack of teeth and more advanced wings in gulls. If you mean which birds look the most like the kind of non-bird dinosaurs winged, feathered birds evolved from, I don't think such a thing exists on earth today. The ancestor of all feathered, winged "birds" would have looked sort of like a Compsognathus, a general body plan that is completely extinct. MMartyniuk (talk) 11:48, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Schulzentrum Saterland has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Despeedied. Fails WP:NSCHOOL. This despite the extensive German language article, most of which does not address the modern school established in 1971, nor is referenced to verify WP:N.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Your signature

[edit]

Wōdenhelm, I learned of this situation from Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. I think the editors above have handled this situation rather brusquely and escalated it inappropriately and I've asked them to step away from the matter. They were well intentioned, however, and they raise valid concerns regarding the guideline Wikipedia:Signatures#Images. Please read this guideline and if you have any concerns or questions regarding it, please discuss with me the situation. Thank you. Gamaliel (talk) 21:28, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I prob'ly would have complied gladly if anyone other than Od Mishehu had asked me to do so. And the behavior of these wikibullies is appalling. Just in this pas week, I've had a group of these fanatics attempt to delete a culturally-significant minor article I'd written, use blatant hate speech against me over a user category, and now behave in this manner on my own user page over a signature. I'll be deleting this nonsense from my page, except the reasonably-presented message from Gamaliel. (and just the fact that a signature qualifies as an "incident" goes to show what kind of people you are).— Preceding unsigned comment added by Wōdenhelm (talkcontribs)
+ You might also want to consider speaking to whats-his-face about his attempted vigilantism, which is prob'ly borderline harassment at this point. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wōdenhelm (talkcontribs)

Per your request on Gamaliel's page, I will stay out of that conversation. However - you have multiple administrators here paying attention to the situation. You can talk it over with Gamaliel directly, but you can't ask or tell the rest of us to entirely drop out of the incident.
That said, my only interest at this point is getting the images out of your signature to avoid the server problems. To that end, I believe Old Michehu was unnecessarily provocative and his removals are not helping, and I asked him to let someone else handle this. Gamaliel and you can discuss that further on his talk page.
I would like nothing better than your agreement on the images, their removal from your active signature, and hopefully not bother you again. I don't intend to pester you, but the server bug is not trivial, and I hope this can be resolved quickly. Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 05:27, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
How quickly it's resolved will be determined entirely by the trigger-happy admins, and their ability (or inability) to display some humility. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wōdenhelm (talkcontribs)
Apparently there seems to be the perception that some editors involved are motivated by preexisting conflicts with you. This is all the more reason that they should stay out of this matter, so we can focus on the important issue here, Wikipedia guidelines and policies. These guidelines and policies apply to all users, regardless of whatever other conflicts may be going on. So now that other editors are no longer involved, are there any other concerns that you have regarding this guideline? Gamaliel (talk) 03:03, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It would seem that their motivation lies solely in the fact that I'm Southern, as can be seen on the Incidents page's comments. I'll simplify my signature on these conditions:

  1. Od Michehu is to never speak to/about me again, for the remainder of his time on any Wikimedia project.
  2. Apologies from all others involved for their absolutely shameful, bullying, and discriminatory comments and behavior (which would include those who did not contact me, but left messages on the Incidents page)
  3. Admissions of wrongdoing on their parts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wōdenhelm (talkcontribs)
I'm not an admin, and I haven't been involved with this at all. You've been told that your signature causes technical problems for Wikipedia: please fix it without conditions. Thanks. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 14:19, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry that this situation has been poorly handled, and if you feel that other editors are acting inappropriately towards you I will assist you in seeking redress on the appropriate noticeboard. But you cannot use this situation to leverage concessions out of other editors, even if I had the power to extract and enforce such concessions, which I do not. Compliance with Wikipedia policies and guidelines is not contingent upon your conditions being met. If you have concerns about the guideline, I will discuss them with you. Otherwise, there's no reason why you can't be in compliance with the guideline while independently pursuing redress against other editors. Gamaliel (talk) 19:29, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It isn't because you're southern; I grew up in Virginia myself, and I still agree that including images in signatures is disruptive, and in violation of policies as indicated by many others. LFaraone 22:44, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This has nothing to do with whether you are Southern, Western, Northern, Asian, European, or a Man-From-Mars. There are good technical reasons why images in signatures are not allowed, whether they are flags of anywhere, a happy face, or a pic of a singing bird. It may be that Od Michehu had had previous unfortunate contact with you here, but the initial request for you to remove the images was not impolite or hostile on its face. I have never been involved with you or (as far as I know) any articles you have edited, and I am advising you strongly to remove the images from your sig without insisting on any "conditions". You are entitled to request Od Michehu not to post on your talk page, but not to insist on a total interaction ban. Those are only imposed by the community, and only for far more serious and prolonged problems than this issue. Please do not try to push this to the block level. The rule on images in sigs is not optional. DES (talk) 23:26, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Editing talk page comments

[edit]

Hi -- I noticed this edit of yours and thought you might not be aware that it's usually better not to edit other people's talk page comments -- it's regarded as poor etiquette. I think it's a sensible rule, myself; I wouldn't want anyone changing my own comments, so I avoid changing other peoples'. Just FYI.
