Jellybeans

[edit]
You have been awarded these Jelly Beans from -The Doctor- Please, enjoy them.

Here are some Jelly beans for you. I love jelly beans as they have sugar in them and most people love sugar. But on the other hand just receiving somthing from somone else just makes you happy and also just giving this to you makes me happy. I hope to spread the jelly beans all over Wikipedia, so here, you can have this lot. Please enjoy them. (I like the lime ones.)

Editors need a bit of a sugar high too.

Thanks for uploading Image:RapSnacks RedHotRiplets MurphyLee.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.

Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 18:54, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"RapSnacks RedHotRiplets MurphyLee.jpg" is an original photo created by me for Wikipedia. That is why it was specified as GFDL-self, as I have legitimately licensed my copyright under the GNU Free Documentation License. Whitebox 09:45, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

French fried onions

[edit]

What does "french fried" mean? Is it an actual culinary term? I've only heard it used for "french fried potatoes" (french fries), so I had removed "french" from "french fried onions" on Green bean casserole. I notice you re-added "french", so I'm curious if it's actually any different from just normal fried onions. -kotra (talk) 19:14, 16 April 2008 (UTC) Yes, "french fried" is a de facto culinary term. I suggest to observe how this product is labeled in grocery stores to see a usage of the term "french fried". Whitebox (talk) 06:57, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see that since my original comment, fried onion and green bean casserole have been expanded to describe french frying a little more, and I also see from Googling that it is in fact a culinary term. Thanks for explaining! -kotra (talk) 07:19, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Back in January of this year, contributed a significant amount of text to the article iPodLinux. A large portion of this text persists in the current version of the article. User 70.73.59.208 (Talk) wants to tell you:

Please refrain from using slang phrases like "in a nutshell", it's unprofessional

~ 10nitro (talk) 18:06, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's a phrase used by a prominent professional technical publisher O'Reilly_Media#In_a_Nutshell, though the article might be more universal without it. Whitebox (talk) 06:38, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Branston smallchunk pickle.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Not a typo

[edit]

Hi, I'm just going through the history of Splashtop and saw your edit which you tagged "(minor typo fix)". For your info, "Mo" is the correct usage in computer science, and means "Megaoctet". It wasn't a typo; it was just someone being slightly anal (or maybe French). Sorry if this sounds condescending, I don't mean to be -- I'm just typing quick! Orphaned non-free media (File:ColumnBrowseInOSX10.2.8.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:ColumnBrowseInOSX10.2.8.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 07:33, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 01:07, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Schnucks24hourSuperCenter.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:55, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the image history for that file, it is apparent that I didn't upload the current image. Someone supplied a more recent daytime image, but for some reason did not use a unique filename. It was hoped that the actual uploader would more correctly specify their image, upload a more valid image, or the processes of wikipedia would remove an infringing image. I am familiar with the GNU FDL and Creative Commons licensing, support them, and have no problem validly sharing my original visual documentations under those licenses where it might benefit wikipedia, in fact that is all I endeavor to do. That image was created and selected for its genericness, and to the best of my knowledge also happened to include no registered trademarks. It also however had an obvious off tint to the lighting, and the page has now accumulated suitable alternatives. So uncontested. Also that image has been there for years, so the main reason you'd notice that what the file page specifies is abnormal is because you changed the tag first. Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Tofurky roast 1lb 10oz.jpg.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.

Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Thanks again for your cooperation. Stefan2 (talk) 22:17, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Some of these procedures were not as clear years ago when I contributed images to a much younger Wikipedia. Of course I would have added such tags that provide more information about copyrights related to what is documented to inform. The license of the original image was, as it stated, an image I created solely for Wikipedia, in order to present an example of something that exists in commerce. In this sort of case, what could be clearer, the copyrights for packaging almost always reside with the company that produces them. The copyright of a photo belongs to the photographer. Of course a photographer of commercial items, does not, and cannot become invested with some sort of universal commercial rights over the mere depiction of commercial items. Hand-coding

[edit]

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyes@wikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:15, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article Feedback deployment

[edit]

Hey Whitebox; I'm dropping you this note because you've used the article feedback tool in the last month or so. On Thursday and Friday the tool will be down for a major deployment; it should be up by Saturday, failing anything going wrong, and by Monday if something does :). Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 22:55, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Provel imos.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Provel imos.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Article Feedback Tool update

[edit]

Hey Whitebox. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:38, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Vess orange whistle soda.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Vess orange whistle soda.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 19:56, 29 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Notice

The article Amighetti's Bakery has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Notability not demonstrated. Tagged as needing better references since 2012

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. – Fayenatic London 21:54, 11 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
