Vesma Baltgailis (Latvian: Vēsma Baltgailis; 23 March 1950 – 3 December 2021)[1] was a Canadian chess player of Latvian origin. She earned the FIDE title of Woman International Master (WIM) in 1985.[2]

Biography

From the late 1970s to the early 1990s, Vesma Baltgailis was one of Canada's leading chess players. From 1978 to 2001, she participated in the Canadian Women's Chess Championship nine times. Her best results: shared 2nd–4th place in 1991, and twice shared 3rd–4th place in 1989 and 1995. [3]

Baltgailis played for Canada in the Women's Chess Olympiads:[4]
