- The result of the discussion was: Relisted, see Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2011 November 15. Dana boomer (talk) 01:49, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Films set in the Cultural Revolution to Category:Films about the Cultural Revolution
- Nominator's rationale: The split here seems to be of no helpful purpose. The category description of the nominated cat makes it clear that this category is also intended as being "about" the Cultural Revolution in some significant way. Also we tend to use "set in" for geographical settings, do we not? Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:30, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
- Rename to Category:Cultural Revolution films? That's the format observed by Category:Films about revolutions.- choster (talk) 14:53, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, but I personally think those are all mis-named cats that User:Mike Selinker, me or someone hasn't gotten around to yet, as we do now seem to strongly favour "x about y" as a naming structure. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 15:00, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

- Oppose the Red Violin, great film, is (partially) set in the Cultural Revolution, but it's not "about" it any more than it's "about" Christianity (some of its drama plays out in a monastery), parenthood (yes, some folks in the film have kids), or painting (I won't spoil the flick by saying how that plays out). It's about a violin. Set in ≠ about. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 01:18, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: speedy deleted WP:CSD#G7 at author's request. JohnCD (talk) 21:51, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
- Category:Wikipedians who like Taylor Swift (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Nominator's rationale: Delete. Per note at Category:Wikipedians interested in music: "There is a precedent against creating categories to organize Wikipedians by the musicians and musical groups they enjoy. Such categories will be speedily deleted per G4. For more information, see Wikipedia:User categories for discussion/Archive/July 2007#Category:Wikipedians by musician and all subcats." A speedy delete request was contested. Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars (talk) 16:52, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Dispute Me and my roommate (though he's more then that that's no one's business but mine) disagree with this. I also think it's messed up you can't create one with about an artist but there can be several about TV shows etc. Shouldn't there be one category called "Wikipedians who watch Television" instead of all those categories? I think certain discussions should be changed due to this as that's really messed up. JamesAlan1986 17:09, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
- Could you provide examples of categories that categorize Wikipedians by the shows they watch?Curb Chain (talk) 17:26, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
Sure can, Category:Wikipedians who like Star Trek, Category:Wikipedians who like Scooby-Doo, Category:Wikipedians who like SpongeBob SquarePants, Category:Wikipedians who like South Park JamesAlan1986 18:48, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
- Speedy Delete excessively narrow category that does not improve wikipedia (per WP:NOTFACEBOOK)Curb Chain(talk) 17:25, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
- I'm going to guess these are all userboxed in. Mangoe (talk) 19:17, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
To Curb: Then all the Category of Wikipedians ----- need to be deleted that's messed up, and I'm really pissed off cause this is ridiculous and not fair and I'm starting to feel a bit discriminated against because I assume good faith and no one cares I'm about done with Wikipedia for good every time I leave and come back someone starts something I can't deal with this anymore and I'll be damn if I'm gonna put up with it anymore DO NOT DELETE IT IF YOU CAN'T DELETE THEM ALL! JamesAlan1986 20:44, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
- Because of this discrimination I am putting all categories like this one up for speedy deletion as this is not fair. JamesAlan1986 20:49, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
