The result of the discussion was: delete. – Fayenatic London 21:26, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Delete. No need for an eponymous category for so few pages (main article, album subcat, discography and template). Delete per WP:SMALLCAT Tassedethe (talk) 20:35, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Leaders of Christian organizations

The result of the discussion was: rename, for consistency with Category:Christian parachurch organizations, Parachurch organization, List of parachurch organizations, and so forth. The fact that some users have not heard of the term is not really a good reason to not proceed in this case. Good Ol’factory (talk) 09:37, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Rename, to distinguish from leaders of congregations or denominations ("churches"). Note that there is a Category:Christian parachurch organizations. A small number of church leaders may need to be purged from the category if the renaming is approved, and I am willing to do that. – Fayenatic London 19:12, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
"parachurch" is in common use in NZ and Australian English. I've also come across the term in writings and podcasts from American seminaries. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 06:32, 21 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose "Parachurch" is a new one on me too. Are we trying to say "inter-denominational" or "non-denominational" organizations? If so, let's use a word used throughout the English-speaking world as these don't seem to be limited to Down Under. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 16:57, 21 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Parachurch organisations work alongside the Church without taking over any of its ecclesial functions. Examples are YWAM, Scripture Union and Wycliffe Bible Translators. They're neither "inter-denominational" nor "non-denominational" because denominational issues are not within their purview. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 07:03, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • For me the word is new too, but hey I'm not a native English speaker. I do understand the intention of the word. Question though, aren't all Christian organisations - apart from churches - to be characterized as parachurch organizations? If that is the case, the word parachurch would be redundant. Marcocapelle (talk) 02:32, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, not all Christian organisations are parachurch. For example, the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is an organisation within the RC church, rather than working along side it. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 02:54, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with Beeswax. The Category:Catholic lay societies exists for such organisations. Laurel Lodged (talk) 11:57, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Neutral I like the word and think it is nice and precise to avoid vagueness. I'm not sure if it is widely enough known to be useful in a category name. That doesn't mean I'm opposed, I'm really not sure.RevelationDirect (talk) 03:29, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep -- This is an attempt to try to put everything into neat compartments. They may be inter-denominational, non-denominational, or denominational. If denominational, they may need to go into a denominational sub-cat. Parachurch is perhaps an accurate term, but not one that I regularly come across in UK, though I know what it means. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Peterkingiron (talkcontribs) 17:16, 26 October 2014‎
  • Comment: See the article Parachurch organization for a view of the meaning. In my experience the term is widely used in the UK, but the meaning is not much to do with denominations either way; rather, it means organisations run by Christians for mission or public service, but distinct from churches (local churches or denominations). I thought Catholic lay societies would be included within its meaning. Anyway, as for this category, either it means leaders of parachurch organisations, or it is not distinguished from Christian religious leaders and should be merged there. – Fayenatic London 21:23, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merging into Christian religious leaders doesn't sound as a good idea, after we just decided to containerize this category. I think there's two good possibilities: either pursue the proposed rename or leave the category as is. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:47, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:37, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: None of the articles in this category (e.g. Shadow zone or Bradyseism) are about terminology (i.e. linguistics). This appears to also be categorizing some things (e.g. Rayleigh wave and Infrasound) by the fact that the terms are used in seismology, not because those topics fall (completely) within the topic of seismology (it might be best to purge the category of such articles before merge). Propose renaming:

Rationale: Per permcat names for each of these categories. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 16:51, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: The typical way to split out this information is to place it in the "national sports team" categories. The included competitions (Olympics, Paralympics, athletics) are all selected on a national basis. The wording of the categories suggest a national team basis anyway, rather than individuals from that country competing on their own basis (as, say, one would at the Boston Marathon etc). I propose all "X at sports competitions" categories be merged to the national team ones. SFB 13:19, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
