[edit]Category:States and territories established in 1250 BC
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: merge. MER-C 12:54, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Such a long time ago, it's not likely that we'll be able to find states and territories established in that specific year. This category is the only category within Category:1250 BC establishments and within Category:1250s BC establishments. Ricky81682 (talk) 21:28, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
- Definitely merge -- Lycia is said to have emerged in circa 1250, so that giving a category for a precise year offends WP:OR. I suspect that the best that anyone could do would be to assign it to a decade and even that may be pushing it. Peterkingiron (talk) 15:47, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
- Merge per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 23:03, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

Category:VP Showcase candidates
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: delete. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:15, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: We don't normally (afaics) place (talk pages of) articles in a category because they're a candidate to be a selected article on a portal. IMO this sort of thing is better handled as a list. If kept this should be renamed as per the CFD below. DexDor (talk) 20:27, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
- Speedy delete under WP:G7. I support the nominators rationale as the creator and only major contributor to this category. It was created at a time when the Portal:Vancouver was a featured portal and had significantly more activity planned. Mkdwtalk 02:02, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

Category:VP Showcase
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 12:54, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:VP Showcase to Category:Vancouver portal selected articles
- Nominator's rationale: More meaningful title, consistency with categories such as Category:Medicine portal selected articles. If people would prefer it to be "... showcase articles" I'd be fine with that. DexDor (talk) 20:22, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
- Move - I think you can just be WP:BOLD and make this move yourself. An MFD isn't necessary in this particular case. Mkdwtalk 02:04, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: withdrawn by nom. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 20:45, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Indian spiritual teachers to Category:Indian Hindu religious leaders
- Nominator's rationale: marge. All articles in this category are about Hindu spiritual teachers and I expect the term Hindu spiritual teacher is as general as Hindu religious leader. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:19, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose It is not true that all of the members of this category are Hindu.
- Kalanos says recent research suggests he's a Buddhist.
- Sathya Sai Baba says at least part of his movement has "rejected the label Hindu".
- Anandmurti Gurumaa is not labeled as Hindu and is described as having followers from many religious traditions.
- Rajneesh is described by some scholars in the article as not being Hindu.
- Pannalal Jain is Jain.
- Dada Bhagwan, Pujya Niruma and Pujya Deepakbhai Desai and teach/practice a "form of Jain-Vaishnava syncretism"
- I think that's enough to establish the point. Samuel J. Howard 13:45, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
- Withdraw nomination, apparently I had checked too few articles. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:49, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: rename. Good Ol’factory (talk) 23:42, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Hindu female saints to Category:Hindu female religious leaders
- Propose renaming Category:Hindu gurus with criminal convictions to Category:Hindu religious leaders with criminal convictions
- Propose renaming Category:Nayanar saints to
Category:Nayanar religious leadersCategory:Nayanars - Propose renaming Category:Prarthana Samaj figures to Category:Prarthana Samaj religious leaders
- Propose renaming Category:Saivite religious figures to Category:Saivite religious leaders
- Propose renaming Category:Vaishnavite religious figures to Category:Vaishnavite religious leaders
- Propose renaming Category:Wikipedia categories named after Hindu figures to Category:Wikipedia categories named after Hindu religious leaders
- Nominator's rationale: subcategory names consistent with their parent Category:Hindu religious leaders. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:54, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
- Rename per previous discussion that decided that anything more specific than religious leader was both too undefined and too likely to create large levels of overlap.John Pack Lambert (talk) 05:27, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
- Added link to previous discussion. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:54, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
- Comment Alternatively I wouldn't object upmerging Category:Prarthana Samaj figures to its both parents per WP:SMALLCAT. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:00, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
- Rename per nom.John Pack Lambert (talk) 15:12, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose.
- Hindu saints are not "religious leaders" but "are those recognized by Hindus as showing a great degree of holiness and sanctity."
- Nayanar saints are "a group of 63 saints" according to Nayanars. They're a group of venerated people. While some of them are religious leader they're not all religious leaders. They are, however, all venerated people. The current category appears to be correct.
- As Category:Saivite religious figures is a parent category for Category:Nayanar saints it would not be appropriate to rename it as "Saivite religious leaders" since, as explained above, not all the Nayanar saints are religious leaders.
- Support renaming Category:Hindu gurus with criminal convictions and Category:Wikipedia categories named after Hindu figures
--Samuel J. Howard (talk) 14:00, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose rename of Category:Nayanar saints, if the "saint" bit is a problem then it could be renamed to just Category:Nayanars as it's a well defined category, not all members being religious leaders. Also, some of the members in other cats of "religious figures" are not religious leaders", e.g. Prahlada or Shuka wouldn't be considered religious leaders. Those categories need more than a rename, they need a purge of all those that don't belong. —SpacemanSpiff 12:34, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
- I've adapted the nomination for Category:Nayanar saints to Category:Nayanars per previous discussion and C2D to the Nayanars article. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:49, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: keep. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:55, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Delete: Box Car Racer have only ever released one studio album, and have been inactive since 2003. This category contains exactly one page (following my removal of Box Car Racer DVD, which is not an album) and definitely fits the description "small without potential for growth". — Bilorv(talk)(c)(e) 18:44, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
- While it's true that not all of the relevant categories actually exist, Category:Albums by artist is meant to be a "comprehensive overall" scheme in which every album that has a Wikipedia article at all is meant to be filed — it is not restricted to "albums recorded by artists who have recorded multiple albums", but rather even a one-album subcategory is permitted to exist within that tree. And while I grant that it's not an ideal description, standard practice of WP:WPMU is that the album categories are meant to be inclusive of video/concert DVDs — since there's no alternative "Music DVDs by artist" scheme to file them in at the present time, and not every band automatically gets an eponymous category just for existing, there's no alternative way to keep the DVDs contextually filed in any other artist-related category. So this does satisfy WP:SMALLCAT's exemption for "unless such categories are part of a large overall accepted sub-categorization scheme", and the DVD should not actually have been removed from it in the first place. Keep. Bearcat (talk) 19:46, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
- Keep – the artist is the defining characteristic of an album. Oculi (talk) 21:16, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
