- Nominator's rationale: Smallcat. ★Trekker (talk) 20:51, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
- Merge to Category:Mistresses of British royalty since that exists and this is a subcat of that.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:24, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
- Merge per nom. Unlike Charles II of England, George I only had a hand-full of known mistresses. Only two of his mistresses have biographical articles in Wikipedia. There is scope for expansion here, but none of his mistresses have captured the public imagination. There was no Nell Gwyn for the Hanoverian monarchs. Dimadick (talk) 23:56, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Category:People from East Berlin
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: keep. bibliomaniac15 05:07, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:People from East Berlin to Category:People from Berlin
- Nominator's rationale: most people in the category spent either the first half of their life or the last half of their life in an undivided Berlin. For example Frank Henkel was born in 1963, moved to West Berlin in 1981, and has lived in an undivided Berlin since 1990. Also, apart from the mayors in a separate subcategory, most people in the category are not directly related to East Berlin as a political entity. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:09, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
- How significant was East Berlin to these people? I suspect it made an impact. East Berlin was certainly as significant a political and cultural entity as most cities, and more than many. This would take them out of East Germany categories. Rathfelder (talk) 10:47, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- The impact is fairly limited to most occupations e.g. sportspeople. Politicians is an obvious exception, but they are politicians of East Germany, not of East Berlin (except the mayors of East Berlin). In any case, both politicians and sportspeople and people with other occupations remain part of Category:East German people by occupation. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:02, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose East Berlin was a dintinct city that existed for 45 years. We might want to mainly limit the scope to people raised in East Berlin when it was a distinct city, but there is clearly justification for having this be a seperate category.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:32, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
- Comment to use Henkel as an example, he lived in East Berlin for the first 18 years of his life, we have lots and lots of people categorized as "from" the place they lived their entire childhood, even though they have spent their entire adult life elsewhere. For example my all time favorite person to cite to illustrate anything is Gerrit W. Gong who is rightly placed in Category:People from Palo Alto, California. This is the city where he lived from shirtly after his birth. The mayor of Palo Alto for part of that time who was also his stake president in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (basically the pastor of a multi-campus large scale congregation) david B. Haight later also performed Gong's marriage. Gong essentially did not live in Palo Alto after he went away to college, even the summer home from his time as a Rhodes Scholar was not spent with his parents in Palo Alto, but in Provo since his father at the time was a visting professor at BYU. Yet no one could credibly argue that Gong does not fit in the cateogry of people from Palo Alto.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:37, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

- Comment "we have lots and lots of people categorized as "from" the place they lived their entire childhood" Typically because it indicates their background. But in this case the categorization tries to divide sectors of a larger city. East Berlin was a subdivision for 41 years (1949-1990), which is shorter than the lifespan of an average human. Several of its inhabitants were probably old enough to remember both the Weimar Republic and Nazi Germany. And several of them were still around after the reunification of Germany. Dimadick (talk) 00:05, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
- But not all of those people lived in Berlin during all of those times. They may have remembered Wiemar and the Nazis, but many of them lived in Eastern Pomerania, Saxzony or Silisia during those times.John Pack Lambert (talk) 12:30, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

- Oppose The division of Berlin was about as significant a division of a city as it is possible to be, and it clearly had a long term affect on the lives of many of these people if you read the biographies. There are 42 subcategories of Category:People by Los Angeles district or neighborhood and I am confident that the differences between these districts is much less significant than that between East and West Berlin. - Propose merging:
- Category:Nuclear technology in Armenia to Category:Science and technology in Armenia
- Category:Nuclear technology in Belarus to Category:Science and technology in Belarus
- Category:Nuclear technology in Estonia to Category:Science and technology in Estonia
- Category:Nuclear technology in Lithuania to Category:Science and technology in Lithuania
- Category:Nuclear technology in Malaysia to Category:Science and technology in Malaysia
- Category:Nuclear technology in the United Arab Emirates to Category:Science and technology in the United Arab Emirates
- Propose deleting:
- Rationale: WP:SMALLCATs, each containing only one page or sub-cat, so not useful for navigation. The subcats of the last two, Category:Slovak nuclear physicists and Category:Nuclear technology organizations of Spain, are already in other suitable head categories.
- Note: This nomination is a follow-up to Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2021_July_21#Category:Nuclear_energy_in_Argentina. For the record, Category:Nuclear technology in Uzbekistan has been emptied and tagged for speedy deletion, as it only contained Uranium mining, which belongs within Nuclear energy but not Nuclear technology. – Fayenatic London 10:53, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

- Propose merging Category:Jains by period to Category:Jains
- Propose deleting Category:Jains of the Early Modern era
- Propose deleting Category:Jains of the Late Modern era
- Nominator's rationale: merge/delete, the Early Modern and Late Modern container categories divided by century do not add any value since we already have Category:Jains by century. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:28, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
- Weak support We do not typically categorize religious affiliations by historical era. Dimadick (talk) 00:08, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
