- The result of the discussion was: withdrawn (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 19:37, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: The other century categories are 1700s in Massachusetts, 1800 in Massachusetts, etc. --Slugger O'Toole (talk) 23:15, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. You're comparing decade and year categories with century categories (which consistently use "Foo'th century" in their names across all countries, states, colonies, cities, etc.) Grutness...wha? 04:14, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
- Grutness, If that is the case, then 1800s in Massachusetts should become 19th century in Massachusetts, etc. -- Slugger O'Toole (talk) 05:19, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
- No, Category:1800s in Massachusetts covers a decade, just like Category:1810s in Massachusetts does. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:33, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
- Marcocapelle, Ah. I see now. I was mistaken and withdraw my proposal. Thanks! -- Slugger O'Toole (talk) 18:45, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
- No, Category:1800s in Massachusetts covers a decade, just like Category:1810s in Massachusetts does. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:33, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose per Grutness. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:33, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose - the nom is mistaken (see Category:Centuries in Massachusetts) and the category is not tagged. Oculi (talk) 09:52, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose -- The best practice is to use 1600s for 1600-09, not 1600-99. This is universal WP practice. Contrary to what nom says Category:1700s in Massachusetts concerns a decade. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:21, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 07:35, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: WP:NONDEFINING, focuses on a relatively trivial fictional element for one franchise that is more than adequately taken care of by Category:Fictional characters displaced in time. IronManCap (talk) 20:49, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Delete per nom. — ChannelSpider (talk) 21:26, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Delete per nomination, and consider deleting or judiciously pruning trivial/non-defining articles in Category:Fictional characters displaced in time. --Animalparty! (talk) 22:47, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Delete, given that this is adequately covered in the article on the fictional event itself. BD2412 T 23:03, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Delete per nom and others. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 01:43, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: diffuse to Category:Electric vehicles introduced in the 20th century, etc. I will start by getting the bot to rename it to that, but please make corrections or further analysis as appropriate.– Fayenatic London 21:36, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Historic electric vehicles to Category:Pre 21st-century electric vehicles
- Nominator's rationale: What makes an electric vehicle 'historic'? We need some sort of objective measure, here. (Alternative title suggestions would be welcomed.) No coffee, please. (talk) 18:17, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Suggest diffusing by century (and possibly by decade), e.g. Category:Electric vehicles introduced in the 20th century. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:02, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Support Marcocapelle's suggestion. Grutness...wha? 04:11, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

Category:African Americans shot dead by law enforcement officers in the United States

- The result of the discussion was: split pertinent articles into another category specifically for people of African descent. No consensus towards a rename. bibliomaniac15 22:16, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
(addendum on 19:11, 4 December 2021 (UTC)) Clarify that there was no consensus towards a rename in this particular discussion. But as usual, if articles are found that necessitate the creation of a new category, the consensus can certainly change. bibliomaniac15 19:11, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: A previous CfD earlier this month resulted in Category:Black people shot dead by law enforcement officers in the United States being renamed Category:African Americans shot dead by law enforcement officers in the United States. Unfortunately, that discussion didn't pick up on the fact that not all the articles in the category are actually about African-American people: Amadou Diallo was from Guinea and only arrived in the U.S. in his 20s; Ousmane Zongo was Burkinabé; Abdul Razak Ali Artan was Somali; there may be others besides. As such, following Bibliomaniac15's suggestion, this deserves reconsideration, though, while I've suggested renaming to the original title, Oculi has pointed out that that doesn't eliminate the problem insofar as the category, under either name, is in the parent category Category:African-American people (though see also my response on that point). As such, I'm not really sure what should be done and hope this discussion can result in some clarity. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 18:02, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose - as the renamed category was a subcat of Category:African-American people anyone not African-American should have been purged from the category anyway; moreover Category:Black people was deleted in 2006 and re-deleted in 2007. The answer is to create Category:People of African descent shot dead by law enforcement officers in the United States as a parent of Category:African Americans shot dead by law enforcement officers in the United States and move people such as Amadou Diallo up into it. Oculi (talk) 18:26, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Oculi: Did you see my response at Bibliomaniac15's talk page (linked above) though? Are Diallo and others people of African descent or are they African people? If the latter, do we still have a new category of which the existing category can be a subcategory? There may be others in the category who are "of African descent" though. I don't object to your proposal but I suspect things may be still more complicated. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 19:45, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose, concur with Oculi. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:50, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose People who were not African Americans should be excluded. We have several categories by ethnicity, but practically none by race. Dimadick (talk) 21:50, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Comment: Black Americans redirects to African Americans. Obama is considered an African American, although he is not really an ADOS. There needs to be a consensus on whether Afro-Caribbean Americans should be included in categories like this. —Lights and freedom (talk ~ contribs) 17:25, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose renaming category, support creation of new category. I came here from Killing of Lindani Myeni where someone just added the category in question; Lindani was not an American citizen so the category does not apply. But that’s by design. The category is for African American citizens, both explicitly and by virtue of its parent category. But there’s a clear gap to fill, possibly with a category like Category:African people shot dead by law enforcement officers in the United States, which could have its own parent category and be linked to the category in question here by a Template:Category see also. ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 16:16, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
- Pinging nominator Arms & Hearts - thoughts? ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 23:21, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Ezlev: Yes, having had a look through all the articles in the category, your proposed new category seems like the best solution. The articles about African-born people currently in the category are Dahir A. Adan, Shooting of Mansur Ball-Bey, Killing of Dolal Idd, Killing of Alfred Olango, Abdul Razak Ali Artan, Mohamed Barry, Amadou Diallo, Shooting of Amadou Diallo, Killing of Charley Leundeu Keunang and Shooting of Ousmane Zongo (some of these may also be describable as African-American, e.g. Adan who was a U.S. citizen, but that doesn't necessarily need to be discussed here). My concern was in part that there'd be some who were neither African-American nor African (for example, African-Canadian or Black British people killed by U.S. cops) who wouldn't fit in either category, but that doesn't seem to be the case. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 16:04, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
- Arms & Hearts, I've created Category:African people shot dead by law enforcement officers in the United States and made it the parent cat of Category:African Americans shot dead by law enforcement officers in the United States. Other than that it's currently empty. ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 18:10, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Ezlev: I don't think it should be the parent category – African-American people aren't African people. I think they should both be subcats of Category:People shot dead by law enforcement officers in the United States and linked by a {{Category see also}} or {{Category distinguish}}. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 11:33, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- Fixed. Something like Category:People of African descent shot dead by law enforcement officers in the United States (as suggested by Oculi above) could be made the parent category for both if there are bios of people of African descent (who are citizens of a country that isn't the United States and isn't in Africa) that need to be categorized this way. ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 17:12, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
