[edit]Category:Death of women
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: split to Category:Death of women and Category:Women deaths. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 17:00, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Death of women to Category:Deaths of women
- Nominator's rationale: This seems to be about deaths of individual women, rather than the concept of death of women. BarleyButt (talk) 21:26, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
- Also add Category:Death of children to this discussion - I'm sure there are others out there. BarleyButt (talk) 21:30, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
- That category has not been tagged yet. Besides there already is Category:Child deaths as a set category. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:05, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- Also add Category:Death of children to this discussion - I'm sure there are others out there. BarleyButt (talk) 21:30, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
- Alternative: split between a set category and a topic category, as has already been done for children. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:05, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- I support this alternative if there are enough relevant articles on the topic of women dying in general. 193.37.240.169 (talk) 13:46, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- Split - the subcat Category:Honor killing is a topic category. Oculi (talk) 14:50, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

Category:Builder of major World War II warships
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: no consensus to delete. Rename to Category:Shipyards building World War II warships instead, as currrent title clearly has issues. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 17:08, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: I don't think "Builder" is used in that sense and at the very least, it should be "Builders" plural. "Shipyards" is more precise. I'm also not thrilled with the fairly vague "major" but I'm not quite sure what to do about it. Pichpich (talk) 17:40, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- the word is shipBUILDING.
- "shipyards of major ww2 warships" would be a grammatical abomination, but essentially convey the same meaning. if you want to make it more ugly i won't object to that.
- the distinction between major and minor is a bit arbitrary. if the distinction is removed, there would have to be 3 times as many entries and the members of the category would start be less uniform.
- all ship types mentioned now are faster than 30 knots, i can't speak about other nations, but the fire control computer on a US destroyer for example was much more sophisticated than that used on destroyer escorts.
- i think the line is drawn correctly, but i suppose that different parties may draw it somewhat differently.
- if major is removed, the next problem would be to decide if a cargo ship armed with a 5-inch gun is a warship. the problem does not go away and if every armed ship is included, then this becomes a category for all shipyards that existed at the time. Nowakki (talk) 13:29, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- Delete, not a defining characteristic. The category contains shipyards that just happened to exist during WWII, but usually with a long history before and after that. If kept, certainly remove "major" from the category name. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:17, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hmm... You might have a point about deletion. Pichpich (talk) 19:21, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
- Propose Category:Shipyards building World War II warships. Any major/minor distinction is avoided. Not all shipyards will have built warships. There was a big need to replace merchant ships being sunk by the axis powers. Peterkingiron (talk) 15:56, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: rename. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 17:10, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Jews of the Jewish tribes of Arabia to Category:7th-century Arabian Jews
- Nominator's rationale: rename, less complicated category title and all articles are about 7th-century people. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:42, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose because this is a logical sub-category of Category:Jewish tribes of Arabia. IZAK (talk) 00:20, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
- It is more logically a subcategory of Category:Arabian Jews, both are biographies categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:20, 8 November 2022 (UTC)

- Support: per nom. Current title is convoluted and mildly tautologous. Also agree that it is more logically a subcategory of Category:Arabian Jews. Iskandar323 (talk) 09:28, 11 November 2022 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: keep. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 16:58, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Since its creation seven years ago, this category has just a single article listed. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 22:03, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- Comment, this seems a case of the smallcat exception rule. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:29, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Marcocapelle:, what is that rule? I'm not familiar. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 20:15, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Soetermans: see WP:SMALLCAT, the exception rule is the second part of the sentence starting with "unless". Marcocapelle (talk) 05:23, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
- Ah, I see, because of Category:Video games by country of developer. Thanks for clarifying. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 10:18, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Marcocapelle:, what is that rule? I'm not familiar. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 20:15, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- Keep because there is no obvious merge target. Peterkingiron (talk) 19:06, 12 November 2022 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: merge. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 16:58, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: This category was created in 2010 and has ever since only been populated by a single article. It is furthermore unlikely that the category will be populated, as the author has yet to produce another noteworthy title. BOTTO (T•C) 15:21, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
- Keep - the author is the single most obvious defining characteristic of a book. Also per the 'unless' clause of WP:SMALLCAT. Oculi (talk) 15:41, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
- Support but merge to Category:American non-fiction books. There are more than 1000 individual articles in that category so the smallcat exception rule does not apply. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:08, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 16:58, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Per same rationale as the now deleted American election deniers. Largely non-defining (fails WP:COPDEF and WP:OPINIONCAT), and potentially subjective and arbitrary. --Animalparty! (talk) 01:47, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
- Delete per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:32, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
