- Propose splitting Category:2nd-century BC women rulers to Category:2nd-century BC queens regnant and Category:2nd-century BC women regents
- Queens regnant:
- in Category:2nd-century BC Pharaohs + Category:Female pharaohs: Berenice III, Cleopatra I Syra, Cleopatra II, Cleopatra III, Cleopatra IV
- in the Category:2nd-century BC monarchs tree + Category:Ancient queens regnant tree: Camasarye Philotecnus, Cleopatra Thea, Laodice (sister-wife of Mithridates IV of Pontus), Shanakdakhete
- only in the Category:Ancient queens regnant tree: Laodice of the Sameans, Panhtwar
- Women regents: all are in Category:Ancient women regents; all except Empress Lü are also in the Category:Ancient queens consort tree: Agathoclea, Amage, Cleopatra I Syra, Queen Jiu, Laodice of Cappadocia, Laodice VI, Nysa of Cappadocia, Rinnu
- Un-parent: only in the Category:Ancient queens consort tree: Etuta, Laodice (sister-wife of Mithridates VI of Pontus), Stratonice of Cappadocia
- Queens regnant:
- Propose splitting Category:2nd-century BC women rulers to Category:2nd-century BC queens regnant and Category:2nd-century BC women regents
- Nominator's rationale: This better describes the lives of these ancient women. Follow-up to the splitting of 3rd-century BC women rulers and 4th-century BC women rulers.
- Basics: "Queen by marriage" = queen consort. "Queen regent" (over underage son) = women regent. "Queen in her own right" (i.e. not by virtue of marriage to husband, or by regency over underage son) = Queen regnant. As is a common pattern throughout history across the Earth, many queens consort became women regents over their underage son(s) upon the death of their husbands; in a few cases (often ancient Egyptian or Greek), they became queens regnant in their own right. In some ancient Egyptian and Greek cases, queens and kings (or even mother and son) were joint monarchs (co-regents / co-monarchs), but there needs to be evidence for this in the biography, not assumptions. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 17:22, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- Support, it is silly to have this category parented to a regents category while quite a few articles are about queens regnant. They are quite different. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:40, 5 July 2023 (UTC)

List of countries and territories where Hindi (हिन्दी) is an official language.
Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 15:55, 28 May 2023 (UTC) - Nominator's rationale (Hindustani): Per WP:C2C parent Category:Countries and territories by official language, per WP:C2D main article List of countries and territories where Hindustani is an official language, and per category description
This category includes countries and territories where a variety of Hindustani (Hindi/Urdu) is official.
We might change it slightly to where a variety of Hindustani is or where a Hindustani variety is according to the description, but WP:C2D would technically take precedence. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 16:03, 28 May 2023 (UTC) - Nominator's rationale (Urdu): Per WP:C2C parent Category:Countries and territories by official language, and per category description
List of countries and territories where Urdu (اُردوُ) is an official language.
Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 16:06, 28 May 2023 (UTC)- @Austronesier You said at this AfD that Hindustani (aka Hindi–Urdu) is not an official language anywhere in the world: it's Hindi in India and Urdu in Pakistan. When used for offcial purposes, they are very distinct from each other. Perhaps we should then Split List of countries and territories where Hindustani is an official language into ...where Hindi is... and ...where Urdu is..., and Delete Category:Hindustani-speaking countries and territories as inaccurate, or at least as a redundant layer in between? - Comment Since I have been pinged here, here is my take. Firstly, I don't understand quite the merit of having largely static micro-categories like Category:Hindi-speaking countries and territories (→ Category:Countries and territories where Hindi is an official language) with less than 10 entries. Also, category titles obviously have to match their stated purpose. A category that doesn't do that like Category:Hindi-speaking countries and territories ("X-speaking country/territory" ≠ "country/territory where X is an official language") needs to be fixed either by changing the title or changing its entry criteria. "Category:X-speaking countries and territories" is of course extremely hard to delineate by objective criteria and cut-off points, so the way proposed by the OP is the more feasible IMO, even if the criteria of inclusion are still not watertight based on problems like the recognition status of countries and territories and even differing definitions of what constitutes an "official language" (@Nederlandse Leeuw: we're not done yet in Talk:Dutch_language#Official_language_of_the_Netherlands 😆. I'm just terribly busy at this time.) –Austronesier (talk) 09:19, 17 June 2023 (UTC)
- Oh, and yes, delete Category:Hindustani-speaking countries and territories as inaccurate. –Austronesier (talk) 09:21, 17 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Austronesier Thanks for your insightful comment, I agree with what you say. This is part of the process of making these categories more WP:DEFINING, and official languages has been found the best way to do that at the recent renaming of parent Category:Countries and territories by language to Category:Countries and territories by official language.
- I understand we are not done yet at Talk:Dutch language#Official language of the Netherlands; I don't presume to have "won" the discussion just because I had "the last word" (so far). At the "French-speaking" CfR, I summarised our exchance as follows:
As far as I know, there is no consensus yet in English Wikipedia when we count a certain language as having the status of "official language". (Austronesier and I discussed this at Talk:Dutch language, without really reaching an agreement. TL;DR I think we need to be able to point to a legal text declaring Dutch the official language of the Netherlands (de jure); Austronesier thinks is it sufficient if multiple RS say "Dutch is the official language of the Netherlands", even if there is no law we can necessarily point to, but the government uses Dutch all the time (de facto)). We are still figuring this out. I would not be opposed to including the four countries mentioned in the list for now until there is a consensus.

- Nominator's rationale: More WP:CATSPECIFIC. They were all queens by marriage to the king of Cappadocia, and a few were regents over their sons, but none was a queen regnant. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 17:13, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- Rename, also as a case of WP:C2C per parent Category:Ancient Greek queens consort. Marcocapelle (talk) 04:39, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
- Yes. The reason why I didn't invoke C2C is because just before nominating, I added two more queens that had (in my conclusion incorrectly) been put in the Category:Monarchs of Cappadocia, namely Nysa of Cappadocia and Stratonice of Cappadocia. So I had changed the membership of the category beforehand. I thought/think each woman's biography needs to be read individually, to assess whether they were (A) all queens consort or whether (B) some were queens regnant, and my conclusion was A. Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Qwerfjkltalk 17:09, 5 July 2023 (UTC)- Stavropol can indeed be purged, but otherwise all items seem to fulfill the criteria. The recent renaming of Category:Ukrainian-speaking countries and territories to Category:Countries and territories where Ukrainian is an official language and of Category:Swedish-speaking countries and territories to Category:Countries and territories where Swedish is an official language (agreed, but not yet carried out) have established that former countries and territories may also be included in this category tree of official languages. - @Oculi: a rename will remove the contents from Category:Rugby union players from County Monaghan.
- If you want to create a new Category:Sportspeople from Monaghan (town), that can be done anyay; there is abslurely no need at all to mess with this simple merge.
- The idea of adding the footballers is a bad one. Soccer players transfer between clubs, so categories for soccer players by club are not categorised under people-feom-place categories.

E.g. Category:HC CSKA Moscow players is in Category:Kontinental Hockey League players, but also has players who only played on other Soviet and Russian leagues. Place Clichy (talk) 10:27, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, many (Swedish Hockey League is the one I know the teams and structure the best). As it is know. all Category:Jokerit players are under Category:Ice hockey players in Russia through Category:Kontinental Hockey League players. Then all should be deleted or purged from players by club categories and filled with people/articles instead. Kaffet i halsen (talk) 13:57, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
- Merge -- This is largely a container for club player categories, but it duplicates Category:Ice hockey players by club in Sweden. Peterkingiron (talk) 15:05, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
- Category:Stefan Liv Memorial Trophy winners, List of current SHL team rosters and List of current SHL captains and alternate captains would fit better in Category:Swedish Hockey League and all Category:Foo players are already in the target. Kaffet i halsen (talk) 07:19, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

- Comment: I can only offer observations in comparison to the equivalent categories for football (I know editors at different sports apply them in different ways), where the X League players category is added to each individual player's article when the player takes part in a match in that league, and is never added to a club article because, as has been stated above, clubs in almost every football system move between divisions and have often been in some other historical systems, so instead the club articles get a X League clubs article as relevant. Clearly the same rule is not being applied to the Swedish Hockey League players cat although my understanding is that European hockey follows the multi-level European football system more closely than it does the closed system at North American hockey. The question is whether it should be repurposed to mirror the football usage (a lot of work), or just deleted. Crowsus (talk) 22:44, 4 July 2023 (UTC)

- Keep' Why is growth not possible? This category absolutely has "realistic potential for growth" per WP:SMALLCAT, Scotland is playing more bilateral cricket as evidenced by Category:English cricket tours of Scotland and Category:Afghan cricket tours of Scotland which have slowly grown over the past decade. Beeeggs (talk) 15:33, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
- Generally, we want at least 4-5 articles for a category to be valid. There are no future planned tours of Scotland in the ICC future calendar list, and given the frequency of NZ tours to England, it's unlikely that there will be enough tours to Scotland for at least 15 years if ever at all. If at some point in the long future there are enough articles to meet Wikipedia's guidelines, then and only then should it be created. Joseph2302 (talk) 07:47, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
