The result of the discussion was: rename (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/they) 04:30, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Propose renaming

To reduce ambiguity, in the same vein as the subcategories of Category:Linguists by nationality, which were renamed after Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2012 November 13#Linguists by nationality. Nardog (talk) 23:25, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lean support. Seems reasonable on its face. But I don't know if I'm missing something obvious.Mason (talk) 23:27, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not sure. Phonology does not seem to study the subject by every language. Marcocapelle (talk) 03:52, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It does both, as does linguistics as a whole. Regardless, that doesn't change the fact e.g. a "Dutch phonologist" is ambiguous as to whether they're a phonologist from the Netherlands or someone who studies the phonology of Dutch. Nardog (talk) 09:21, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/they) 04:26, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Propose renaming Category:Modern serif typefaces to Category:Didone serif typefaces
Nominator's Rationale: Didone is a more common term for this typeface classification. (Didone (typography)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jothefiredragon (talkcontribs)

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: I will tag the category.

The result of the discussion was: merge (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/they) 04:26, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Redundant category layer. These categories would be the only ones in the merge target Mason (talk) 23:00, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Merge per nom. Omnis Scientia (talk) 23:12, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/they) 04:27, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: There are only a few categories. My mother is asking me to Ocean Grove right now so can't finish up right way. QuantumFoam66 (talk) 22:35, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I want to have categories per year, as now. I created this category recently - there are many abandonware games per every year - please do not merge. Vitaly Zdanevich (talk) 23:51, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge for now, there are only very few articles. I have merged the four nominations to one. Marcocapelle (talk) 03:57, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/they) 04:28, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Neither of the two categories (by continent), (by country) are regions. Furthermore, the parent category isn't crowded, so having this is the main category is helpful more navigation. Mason (talk) 20:47, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge, redundant category layer with only two subcategories. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:46, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/they) 04:28, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Merge with parent category. There were two other articles which belonged in Category:Synagogues in West Virginia rather than here; I've moved them there. Omnis Scientia (talk) 20:01, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/they) 04:28, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Barring the two redirects, none of the articles in this category originate in the film. Fails WP:DEFINING. (Oinkers42) (talk) 04:58, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: This is the correct form in German, like you can see by the German Wikipedia [1] and other Wikipedias, and also by Wikipedia Commons [2].Mistico Dois (talk) 02:13, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment, sources mentioned in the article use both C and K. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:33, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Answer The more correct and usual form in German is Carl Friedrich Lessing, as you can see by the German Wikipedia. The predominant way is Carl. But unfortunately you are right, both forms appear in a quick search in the Google, for example. But if the German Wikipedia uses the form Carl shouldn't that be the preferable?Mistico Dois (talk) 14:59, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: Couldn't you make the same argument in reverse? The logic would apply in both directions. (I'm not advocating that English Wikipedia dominates, but my point is that that's not a compelling argument by itself.)Mason (talk) 23:25, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: Since Carl Friedrich Lessing was German, it makes sense the way his name is usually spelled there, even if there is an alternative way.Mistico Dois (talk) 23:41, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Lean oppose. German language Wikipedia is not just for German nationals. Further, he looks to have been born in Poland. Again, my point is that your argument isn't very compelling for one Wikipedia to defer to another Wikipedia. Do you have any alternative arguments that don't rely on this premise? Mason (talk) 00:02, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Final comment Since both forms are used and several Wikipedias use both forms, I think it can go back to the previous form. I'm cancelling my request.Mistico Dois (talk) 00:14, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
