Wikipedia:Editor review/New England

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

New England (talk · contribs) Hello, this is New England (formerly Black Harry). I've been here since this April, and I decided its about time I take a look at my efforts here at Wikipedia. I basically want to know how you all feel about me here, and how I can help better the project New England (C) (H) 03:52, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ah, this is where Black Harry has gone to... :) I think you know yourself that you are doing well with the articles you created and e.g. 28 AIV reports. Looking through your most recent contribs I noticed only little things, like this "vandalism" revert of an arguably non-vandalism edit. What brought me here was this comment. I know from experience how hard it can be to resist making barbed comments and giving "snotty" replies, but you should try at all costs. Parotting back the first words of another user's comment to you could be considered impolite, or even uncivil. Please take this advice from an occasional dickery prone "senior fellow". —AldeBaer 18:25, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
    • Thank you for commenting here. I do agree that sometimes my comments do border on being impolite, and I will try ans stop that (so it is tempting to give those responses). One thing I would like to know is why you don't think of this as vandalism. New England Review Me! 18:36, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • Looks like vandalism to me, mate :) Remember to be civil :) Computerjoe's talk 14:37, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
        • I suppose that edit could be testing, but it looks more like vandalism to me as well. But this is what brought me here: Was the closing comment here really necessary? Now, while I've been known to use that sort of language on occasion, I'm not sure I'd use it here. —Travistalk 00:17, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
          • You do realize that I was the nominator right?. I didn't mean to offend anyone by saying that. New England Review Me!/Go Red Sox! 00:21, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
            • Yes, I figured that out after a second or so - If it had been directed at another editor I'd probably be commenting about it elsewhere. Look, it doesn't offend me personally, but it was surprising to see, and I imagine that there are quite a few people here that would be offended. While one such comment probably wouldn't change my mind, should you be the subject of an RfA, this could only give ammunition to the opposition. —Travistalk 00:37, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
There are several that come to mind. I created the article for Rich Gotham (new Celtics President), as well as ones on Brad Seely and Eugene Chung. I also enjoyed working on the List of colleges and universities in metropolitan Boston.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
Yes, the situation with OldWindyBear was very stressful for me. I was able to deal with it because I found out the community felt his blocking me was wrong. Another situation involved Corticopia. I posted a thread on WP:ANI about him, and he responded by trying to smear me. Eventually he was blocked, and I moved on.
For the Record, I will answer any questions here on anything.
  3. At what point or after what accomplishments do you feel you have to complete before you can consider yourself to have reached your peak?
    -- Python (Talk to me!) 17:38, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Right now, I don't really know where my peak is. For me, it seems every week or so I find something else that I focus my attention on. First, I worked on listing new pages for Speedy Deletion, then voting in AFDs, Then RFAs, I also helped lay the foundation for the Red Sox Project, and now I'm going through random and seeing if any I find should be listed at AFD. From time-to-time I also have created (and worked on) various articles relating to Boston Sports, and of course reverting vandalism on my watched articles. That's the best answer I can give now. 4. Optional question: Why do you edit Wikipedia, and why would you one day like to become an administrator? IvoShandor 02:11, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I started editing here (first as an anon) because I wanted to improve the quality of articles that interested me. I stayed here because I like editing here.
The admin one is trickier to answer, but I mainly want to be one because passing an RFA shows the community trusts me enough to be one. I also get tired of dealing with persistent vandals/trolls, and being an administrator would help me fight them. Then of course I feel I could help by speedy delete new pages that meet the criteria for speedy deletion. New England Review Me!/Go Red Sox! 04:04, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your nomination [1] of this article for deletion seems rather ill considered. There are plenty of sources for this term online - one wonders if you checked for these - and asking for a speedy deletion for it was entirely mistaken. Nick mallory 04:15, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
