The result of the discussion was: keep. This is an image of the subject of the article on fictional characters, which makes the image significant to the article. It is generally agreed that no free image of a copyrighted character will available. The image was taken from a magazine web site and not from the production company's website. The characters are shown in the context of the television show. -Nv8200p talk 20:45, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Strong Keep — per the following four points (from file talk page):
- WP:NFCC#8 says: "Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding." An article on bicycles has images of bicycles. Without the images, there would be significantly decreased understanding of the subject. Biographies have images of the subject, without which there would be significantly decreased understanding. Also, there is precedent in Luke Snyder and Noah Mayer, a fictional couple in As the World Turns with a photo of the couple File:Luke and Noah-Main.png. And the cast picture File:Hugheses1980.jpg in the soap As the World Turns, and many others.
- Since TV shows are visual media, it is of the essence to have a visual representation of the couple, just as in any other biography or bio like article. Descriptions don't work, as people need images. It's the way our minds work and it's human nature to very much want and need to see what the shouting is about. It's no accident that vision is more evolved than smell or hearing in humans. We are visually driven. That's why newspapers spent multiple millions of dollars adding photos of people and events to their papers and later, color photos. It's the reason for the success of Flickr and other image repositories. And for YouTube. And one of the reasons for Facebook and others. Look at most of the other soaps, TV shows, movies, books, and DVD articles that have images. It's why WP:FACR requires images. We include images because that's what readers are looking for. Otherwise they go elsewhere. The argument that the photo adds no understanding has no legs.
- Further, the size of the including article has no relevance at all. Especially since it just survived an AfD and therefore there is community consensus that the article belongs here. And that includes the photo.
- The Non-free use rationale template on the file page contains an adequate rationale for inclusion and I endorse it. The concerns have been adequately addressed. — Becksguy (talk) 11:00, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- delete - Incomplete source information: The image is said to be created "to promote their work or product in the media" but there's not enough source information to verify this. Sometimes, these images are created to be used on the company's official website about the tv-show, and when we use this image in "our site" about the tv-show, we are making a non-transformative use of copyrighted work, what fails the fair use test (and our criterion #2). --Damiens.rf 12:38, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep per Becksguy. --DrBat (talk) 21:10, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- The actors are alive and appear the same as they do when they portray the characters. My opinion has always been that when this is the case—that seeing a picture of the actor is as informative about what the character's appearance—a fair use image is unjustified. ÷seresin 21:04, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- No valid license. License has been claimed repeatedly by uploader, but actual copyright owner has not released image for use (apparently willing to allow Wikipedia use only, but not GFDL/CCRA release). It's been sixty days since the last reported OTRS contact; with no valid license provided, it's time for this to go. No fair use rationale, general illo in already overillustrated BLP. - Keep - move to commons at the very least. Not the same image, and the new one looks rather ugly! Jeni (talk) 18:36, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment/Question I am aware of "Deleting this image might break the “attribution path” for the new SVG image, which breaks licenses such as the GFDL." being an issue for the GFDL license, but there still is the cc-by-sa-3.0. Will this suffice? Or does this image have to stay?--Rockfang (talk) 18:39, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Further Comment I am very suspicious about the new image, it looks like it has possibly been traced from an aerial photo. The only aerial photos available at a high enough resolution of this area (that I know about) to make such a trace are non-free. Definitely worth checking out first. Its possible that it has been created from GPS traces, but with that I wouldn't expect it to be so "perfect". It seems to match perfectly with the google photography Jeni (talk) 18:45, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep I created the SVG by consulting non-free aerial photos but did not trace directly from them. I have amended the request in the hope that a more skilled wikigraphist can produce a less ugly version. Meanwhile, let's discard my attempt and keep the GIF.
