Falkland Island wolf, Dusicyon australis: the images we took of this Otago Museum specimen are the only ones of the species available under an open license
Dunedin "Let's Get NZ Artists into Wikipedia" event
  • Continued to work with National Library staff on the projects worked out in January.
  • Made a week-long trip to the South Island to attend the meeting of the New Zealand Entomological Society (where I ran a Wikipedia meetup) and run two events in Dunedin to encourage the arts community to increase their presence in Wikipedia. The Dunedin events were poorly attended, but a representative of Christchurch Art Gallery drove four hours to attend the talk, and it looks like we'll run the same events, better-publicised, in Christchurch in May. Met with numerous other people to plan events in Dunedin in April.
  • As part of the visit to Otago Museum, I helped them upload and use photographs of Tasmanian tiger, kurī, and Falklands wolf specimens in the collections; the latter two are now the best images of each in Commons.
  • Took part in a workshop run by Te Papa on submissions on the New Zealand Copyright Act reforms; I'll be preparing a submission as NZ Wikipedian, representing to some extent the Wikimedia Foundation statements on open knowledge in the NZ context (where we currently have a "life + 50 years" copyright term but no Fair Use provisions).
  • Yes, I ran three events on Tuesday, February 19th, two of them simultaneously. I don't plan on repeating that soon…
