Wikipedia Education Program

[edit]

LaGuardia Community College was the earliest and most active participant in the Wikimedia Education Program from 2012-2017, having incorporated Wikipedia editing assignments into more classes by more professors than any other university in that time period. Professors and classes at LaGuardia continue to use Wikipedia editing as a learning tool. Classes at LaGuardia Community College which engaged Wikipedia include those in these lists:

Wiki engagement through the La Guardia and Wagner Archives

[edit]

LaGuardia Community College hosts the La Guardia and Wagner Archives. Students at LaGuardia have shared information from these archives in Wikipedia articles.

Wikipedia Translatathons

[edit]

New York City has a large immigrant population and great diversity of speakers of various languages. Among all schools in New York City, LaGuardia has the highest percentage of immigrant students, the highest percentage of students who speak a language other than English as their first language, and the greatest representation of language diversity. It is a strength of LaGuardia that it can present "Wikipedia translatathons", which are Wikipedia translation events.

WikiConference North America

[edit]

Students and staff at LaGuardia Community College have been speakers and participants in WikiConference North America every year since its founding in 2013. More than any other school LaGuardia has sought to incorporate higher education into this annual conference and to encourage students who contribute to Wikimedia projects to present their work at the conference.
