Expected sum of random variables[edit]

Is the expected sum of a number of random variables equal to the sum of each of those random variable's expected values? I know this is the case for certain distributions (e.g. Sum of normally distributed random variables), but when is this not the case? --Iae (talk) 23:23, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

See Expected value#Linearity.--RDBury (talk) 23:41, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Looks like I was just scanning for the wrong word. --Iae (talk) 23:47, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
