Wikipéire[edit]

  • Supporting evidence: Rownon has been blocked indefinitely as a suspected sockpuppet of Wikipéire. This may be so, but I am not certain, and per WP:AGF I would like to confirm this. User:Jza84, the blocking admin, claims that the editing patterns are similar enough that he is confident that Rownon is a sock, but I would like to be completely fair to the user, to avoid a possible WP:BITE. Also, a Checkuser would be useful to determine what other IPs/usernames Wikipéire (a prolific sockpuppeteer) is using. (Apologies to the clerks if this request is incorrectly formatted. This is my first checkuser request.) Checking Rownon's IPs against some of the past IPs used by the alleged puppeteer might be the better way to go about this here, since any thing from Wikipéire is going to be stale.--Aervanath lives in the Orphanage 17:37, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Note The checkuser may be inconclusive when compared against the original Wikipeire account, although I suspect it will be confirmed when compared with the more recent usernames and ips used by this individual. --Jza84 |  Talk  17:45, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipéire[edit]

  • Supporting evidence: I suspect the above IP addresses to be sock accounts for banned user Wikipeire. The basis for my suspicions are threefold: (1) The user is following me around and reverting my edits, e.g. at Northern Ireland and United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland; (2) The purpose/subject of his edits is the same - always on Irish articles (like Wikipeire) and particularly in respect of the term "Republic of Ireland"; and (3) The IP addresses are all similar to other addresses listed under Suspected sock accounts for Wikipeire.  Clerk note: case formated. -- lucasbfr talk 16:55, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: 78.16.0.0/16 is an ISP range that looks quite busy (the full range is 78.16.0.0/14 however). Is there much collateral damage? -- lucasbfr talk 16:57, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: See Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Snappy57 where a bunch of Wikipéire socks were just uncovered in the last 24 hours. —Wknight94 (talk) 18:36, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ovlem[edit]

Confirmed - waay too obvious. I'd already checked and blocked him before I saw the case here. Aaron - can you bring these blatant Wikipéire sock cases directly to my talk page? I'll checkuser and block him immediately, and save you having to fill out a case.
information Note: - I've already softblocked his IP range for 48 hours, with ACB disabled. If he keeps at this, I'll extend the rangeblock and enable ACB. This needs to stop - Alison 22:56, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ovlem[edit]

  • Supporting evidence: Per discussion at Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Ovlem, account and suspected socks are believed to be that of a perma-banned user. Even if not block evading, user appears to be engaged in 3RR evasion using various socks. For example, very first edit of account labelled Berby was a revert of another user's change, and included perfectly formed shorthand references/links to Wikipedia policy. [1] And yet user claims to be a total newbie. [2]. Similar behaviour on other accounts, primarily (if not exclusively) to pipe every single Republic of Ireland link - irrespective of whether it adds or impedes article quality and clarity. Guliolopez (talk) 17:39, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have added User:Pureditor (per the new case on Wikipeire here) and another recent case, Bell V Bell (here). Since I posed the case on Pureditor (a successful account) being a sock of the banned Wikipeire, Pureditor has stopped editing and all these new cases have occurred. --Matt Lewis (talk) 18:00, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please see the results of the UserCompare tool. (NOTE: Does not include Bell or Wiki as special characters will not work with the tool) --mboverload@ 03:31, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
information Note: - I'm going to run this case in detail here in the morning as I'm aware of the previous Wikipéire case. However, I can state the following now:
Confirmed the following as being the one editor, and I note the related SSP case here. There's also some logging out to revert going on too.
  1. Pureditor (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)

Clerk note: Yeah, I am thinking they are two different sock farms, so there really is no real sockmaster that I can see, is that correct Alison? Tiptoety talk 16:57, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Pretty much, Tip, yeah. The other editors are all over the place and I can't really nail them down, though I suspect one or two of them may be UDAcommander (talk · contribs) - Alison 07:06, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just clarifying, are these confirmed to be linked with Wikipeire? Also, another's popped up, ThatsGrand (talk · contribs); I'm tempted to block on site as a block/ban evader. --Jza84 |  Talk  18:46, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
User:ThatsGrand edits Andy Murray and Great Britain at the Olympics - this connects Wikipeire/Pureditor (Andy Murray) and the original Ovlem group (Olympics). All edit about Irish/Scottish/UK nationality. Also, the original Ovlem group (ie minus Wikipeire, Bell V bell and Pureditor - who I appended to the list myself) were created just after Pureditor was openly suspected as Wikipiere here, on the 26th August. I associate Wikipeire with 78.16 (and 78.19 too), if there is another IP he could be using it would be interesting to know. Those two articles must be really popular ones - having the Great Britain at the Olympics one locked after such a successful campaign is not good at all, and unfortunately it doesn't provide a top link to the 2008 campaign. No matter how complicated this is I'll personally be looking at everything that could be Wikipiere - he's a major disruption to Wikipedia.--Matt Lewis (talk) 19:56, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm inclined to agree. Certainly Ovlem and ThatsGrand are one and the same (same places, but never at the same time), whilst the style and aim is identical to that of Wikipeire. --Jza84 |  Talk  20:14, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm assuming Alison will be back, and some actual 'IPs' have been blocked? rather than the puppets? - it's all a bit above my head. I do have one point, though - I think it's always worth tagging these in some way (if that means templating their talk pages), simply because these accounts live on in the talks and archives of Wikipdia, and its the only way we have to show people (provided they look) that these are false accounts. I'm planning to give all the many suspicious 78.16's suspected sock templates when I have the time. It's important to have that record. --Matt Lewis (talk) 20:34, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • That's got my support. I've started Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Ovlem, and some of those are tagged, but we need to get something in place to identify these as suspects of Wikipeire, and how they link together. --Jza84 |  Talk  20:38, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • I'm going to template User:ThatsGrand as he is editing right now on all the usual topics/matters (back on UK now as well). (ie, in my opinion Wikipeiere is without question using ThatsGrand right now). I'll use this 'checkuser' as the link page, rather than create yet another SSP. I assume that's OK - change it if it isn't. --Matt Lewis (talk) 21:27, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
        • I'm struggling to assume good faith with him, so I'm probably compromised. :S.... I really must get checkuser status me thinks - I can't stand all this sockpuppetry! --Jza84 |  Talk  21:30, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
          • This is doing my head in as much as yours. Can you get the checkuser done asap so I can stop being bothered?ThatsGrand (talk) 22:00, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
            • Can this be dealt with soon please? If ThatsGrand doesn't come up on a checkuser I want to put forward a case. --Matt Lewis (talk) 21:23, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
              • I agree can this check user get done. An aggressive editor such as Matt is going to spewing this all over Wikipedia until the checkuser proves that this editor(s) have nothing to do with me.ThatsGrand (talk) 21:31, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User:Sarah777 dragged me back in here for another check. I had to dig through my archives to find older Wikipéire technical evidence. They're pretty easy to spot once you've the history. He should also be quite a bit easier to spot in future here. Here's what I found, surprisingly enough, once I started digging:

The following accounts are all  Confirmed as being socks of Wikipéire (talk · contribs):
  1. Pureditor (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
  2. Ovlem (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)

  4. Berby (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
  5. MiddleEastlands (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
  6. ThatsGrand (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
  7. Mulacho (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
The following are  Likely Wikipéire socks:
  1. IP213.202.189.10 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) - yes, that's an account name, not an IP!
NotUlsterScots (talk · contribs) is Red X Unrelated to any of the above. Wrong country.

Wikipéire (Third)[edit]

  • Supporting evidence: Some or all of these accounts may be linked. There is a common goal of pushing a certain political POV (here, here, here, here, here, here and here) and the editing of an article on a certain musical group (here, and see also the list of conntributors here). Also, an editor has recently been blocked who has the same or similar modus operandi. I've made the code G, but some of the edits have been disruptive and may turn out to have been avoidance of 3RR or the block, making it F, C or E. --Setanta747 (talk) 16:30, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • I have added users Jtdirl and FearÉireann because of a similarity in with one of the suspects and Jtdirl's signature (see here and here). --Setanta747 (talk) 16:49, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think Admins are exempt from being checked, are they? Also, is Jtdirl now retired or semi-retired? --Setanta747 (talk) 01:22, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • No, they are not exempt. I was just surprised to notice that this case included two – I don't recognize most of these older admins, so I added a note. – Sadalmelik 04:52, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, this is another Wikipéire case. However, I'm not sure why Domer is on here. Anyways ....

The following accounts are  Stale :
  1. Jtdirl (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) - and FearÉIREANN (talk · contribs) is his old, renamed account. Nothing untoward there. Still miss that guy, too.

Just a note for passers by that these last two cases are effectively the 8th and 9th sock reports under the name 'Wikipeire' - Wikipedia:Suspected_sock_puppets/Wikipéire, (Wikipedia:Suspected_sock_puppets/Wikipéire_(2nd) was the first checkuser case below), Wikipedia:Suspected_sock_puppets/Wikipéire_(3rd), Wikipedia:Suspected_sock_puppets/Wikipéire_(4th), Wikipedia:Suspected_sock_puppets/Wikipéire_(5th), Wikipedia:Suspected_sock_puppets/Wikipéire_(6th), Wikipedia:Suspected_sock_puppets/Wikipéire_(7th) . Also the Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/Ovlem socks are Wikipeire, and he is checked and blocked on sight at this present time, with 22 socks behind him. --Matt Lewis (talk) 20:14, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipéire (Second)[edit]

Already  Confirmed and blocked - Alison 16:07, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipéire[edit]

  • Supporting evidence: I was alerted by this edit to Wales by Petitspois. I think this is clearly Wikipéire (talk · contribs) using a sock to avoid 3RR again (as he/she did on Wales with Melvo, which was banned here). I'm suspicious of the editors' shared history (Wales, Hard Fi and a string of the band "Editors" diffs here) - the coincidence of a one-off edit happening on Wales with a unique editor with this particular and idiosyncratic history is just too unlikely. People are getting paranoid about IP's on British Isles too: 62.49.20.179 had an interest in Editors, Hard Fi and constituent country (an article central to the revert Petitspois is involved in). Footballers is another interest (the common interests in general are a few bands, 'UK/Ireland issues' and footballers). 78.16.57.194 from Editors has an interest in re-naming Rep of Ireland as "Ireland" - which is Wikipéire's most common pursuit. Looking down the Editors page history (though probably less important), 78.16.114.193 shows coincidentally-timed combined-interest band edits too, as does 124.168.196.226.
  • I was alerted to the "78.16.xx.xx" range by the admin Gb (talk · contribs) on our Talk pages me/ him (I alerted GB as he originally banned Wikipéires sock Melvo (talk · contribs)). 78.16.126.36 appears on the British Isles Talk page - both it's comments are aimed at myself, with one about Wales not being a real country (a Wikipéire argument in Wales - but not particularly relevant for the British Isles page the IP commented on). I have argued with Wikipéire on Wales about the 'country' issue. Wikipéire argued that Wales isn't an official country, and the only other editor who argued this with him (User:Gozitancrabz), turned out to be a sock of the banned user User:Iamandrewrice.
  • There are more-prevalent 78.19.xx.xx's on British Isles, but I know too little about IP's to know if the number is strictly 'in range' with "78.16.xx.xx". 78.19.213.117 has trolled my Talk page in the section that I was commenting to Wikipéire, 78.19.238.101 has similar views, and both 78.19.55.51 and 78.19.204.211 have been in a 3RR dispute and reported me for 3RR'ing (I was partly confused by the IP joining in and was let off the hook, fortunately). 78.19.222.154 and Wikipéire have commented next to each other in British Isles, backing each other up. 78.19.13.108 has asked me an unusual (and out of the blue) question about Wales and Anglesey in British Isles - where the debate is typically about the British Isles containing Ireland. I accept that '78.19.xx.xx' could possibly be someone else supporting Wikipéire (IP's do get used a lot on British Isles), but significant elements are clearly here too. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matt Lewis (talkcontribs)
Clerk note: It would be great if you could provide evidences of clear 3RR violations (4 diffs in less than 24 hours), and the other evidences of trolling. Thanks! -- lucasbfr talk 06:51, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
information Note: - I'm familiar with the background to all this British Isles trouble, as it falls under the auspices of the Troubles arbcom.
 Confirmed - the following:
  1. Wikipéire (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
  2. Petitspois (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
  3. Melvo (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
... as well as most of the IPs mentioned, as this editor has been logging out to evade 3RR, hence I'm mentioning them here per policy - Alison 07:05, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
