Suspected sockpuppets

There has been a long-running disagreement about the map at Spanish Empire. User:Cosialscastells was one involved party that was permanently blocked from WP after abusing another editor. Since then, we have seen many similar edits on the article page and posts on the talk page from suspicious new users and IP addresses with very limited edit history, all confined to the same series of articles.

The problem edits are all the same - removing the new map that has been placed on the article.

Most recently, a possible 3RR violation occurred by User:Dunkedun doing this via an IP address and then his own account 22 March #1 22 March #2 22 March #3 22 March #4.

Note similar reversions on 17 March 15 March 14 March 13 March 9 March and so it goes on. Note most of these come from IP addresses associated with "TELEFONICA DE ESPANA" in Madrid.

We are also seeing multiple posts on the talk page in support of these reversions on the surface from separate users, but again it is suspicious that their contribution history is so short and limited to the same set of articles.

I strongly suspect that User:Cosialscastells is behind much, if not all, of this.

Suspected sockpuppets

Evidence submitted by The Ogre (talk) 17h49, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Myself, going after a hint by XPTO, suspect Sifilis122 of being a sockpuppet of Cosialscastells aand have placed a warning in his talk page stating that.

This suspicion is based in his general attitude (disruptive editing, personal harassment, same POV agenda - see his edits in Spanish Empire) and specifically in this edits by fomer socks that quite resemble Sifilis122 editing pattern:

One can only suspect when a new editor, with only 1 day in wikipedia and a total of 47 edits, perfectly knows his way around and shows the same behaviour (even going to the point of having the same sources and using the same arguments and even words!) as a known and disruptive master-sockpuppeteer.

Despite being blocked once for abuse, and then found guilty of using multiple sockpuppets to evade block and continue edit warring at Spanish Empire, is now returning for more trolling at the talk page [1]

Yet another sock account for his activities at Spanish Empire. He had one already blocked today, looks like he revived an old account to [2] [3] get past the semi-protection that has been placed on the article to prevent his edit warring.

  • I have indef blocked on behavioral basis - this is an older account (late 2007, rest were late 2008/early 2009). It's possibly the parent account for the group. However, it could be someone else who got pulled in to the argument and agreed with the now multiply blocked sockpuppeteer. I recommend a block evasion checkuser to try and confirm. Thanks. We had major issues in 2009 with User:Cosialscastells at Spanish Empire over the map. Recently a new user turned up at the same page, User:Fireinthegol who knew about Cosialscastells [6] despite him having been blocked months before this new user arrived on the scene. We're seeing a similar pattern of disruptive editing - removing or changing maps he disagrees with without discussion [7] [8] and ranting on Talk:Spanish Empire.

Clerk declined, all confirmed socks are  Stale. Decide on behavior. Timotheus Canens (talk) 02:44, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to repost what I have just said at WP:ANI... The most recent confirmed sockpuppets of Cosialscastells, per the SPI, are Resvoluci and Emiliojcp. Cosialcastells was focused very much on maps of the Spanish Empire, even going so far as to leave this message on RHPF's talk page. Resvoluci made this edit to push a particular map of the Spanish Empire on the article, and it was the last act before they were blocked. A bit more than a week after that block, Emiliojcp came out of many months of activity to make the same edit before being blocked. Enriquegoni, who Fireinthegol has admitted to being a prior account, made this edit to the talk page of that same article as one of their earliest edits, yet again trying to push the same map onto the same article. I had my suspicions from the beginning, and that seems to confirm it for me, per WP:DUCK. -- Atama 21:56, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've now blocked Fireinthegol and their older account as sockpuppets. -- Atama 22:08, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
