Suspected sockpuppets [edit]

Evidence submitted by WikiLaurent [edit]

Could someone check these two users? They seem to be doing the same kind of edits on articles about China. See for instance these very similar edits: [1] [2], or these two: [3] [4] (nearly the same comments about the same picture), as well as the history of File:Execution_in_China.jpg. Laurent (talk) 20:07, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Evidence submitted by Elockid [edit]

I added Toutvientapoint and Zhonghuo. The articles edited by these accounts are similar to those of Polylepsis and YellowPops. Editing mostly Chinese related articles and competitions like the Olympics. Elockid (Talk·Contribs) 21:38, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The accounts have the same liking to editing Chinese related articles, games (Olympics) and statistical lists as the other socks.

This also seems to have been missed. Xiglofre added a link to the French Wikipedia's SPI page in which the accounts listed after Confucius was blocked as sock puppets of Kiriniki which seems to be the equivalent of Polylepsis here. Elockid (Talk·Contribs) 21:41, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the suspects (Je sais plus qui, 中华人民共和国, Kiriniki and Sebastien Poncet) seem to have no edit history at all. Maybe I missed something, but how does the behavioral evidence implicate them? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smocking (talkcontribs) 16:08, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

See the French Wikipedia link and check under the contribs of each of the socks. For convenience, here they are: Sebastien Poncet, Je_sais_plus_qui, Kiriniki, 中华人民共和国. Also, they're probably sleeper accounts now. Elockid (Talk·Contribs) 16:21, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that clears things up a bit. Most of them look like WP:DUCKs to me. However, I still don't see how Je sais plus qui (contrib french: Je_sais_plus_qui) is implicated - there are no obviously related edits (my French is rusty though). Kiriniki has been editing since 2007, several years before the suspected puppetmaster, so him being part of the suspect list is also beyond me. Smocking (talk) 17:14, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
On the French Wikipedia, Kiriniki seems to be considered as the first user (the "puppetmaster"), and the others as Kiriniki's sockpuppets. His edits are very similar to those of, by exemple, Zhonghuo, and some sockpuppets have been used to vote like him (see this page). Je sais plus qui was probably banned as a sockpuppet of a banned user. --Xiglofre (talk) 13:10, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Then he should be the suspected puppetmaster per the instructions at the top of this page. Smocking (talk) 14:14, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Editing the same articles as the last socks, Chinese related articles, especially similar to socks ConfuciusInstitute (talk · contribs) and PaxAmericana (talk · contribs). It's a newly created account that seems to be continuing their edits from Confucius. This can be seen with the article Table tennis in China and Chinese Lunar Exploration Program. They also already started in editing in French Wikipedia. Most of the socks found edited French Wikipedia. Elockid (Talk·Contribs) 13:39, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yinghuo 1's first 6 edits was to Chinese space exploration. This is a common for socks like Lunaroutpost (talk · contribs) and PaxAmericana (talk · contribs). The scope of the articles are also similar, mainly with East Asian (Chinese topics). Also, the SUL also shows that the account also exists at French wikipedia. All the socks from the previous investigations had the trend of the account editing and/or existing at French Wikipedia.

I'm not entirely convinced that this is Polylepsis yet. The articles being edited and information type are similar, but they're still some behavior missing like the SUL showing French Wikipedia account creation, the large amount of statistical information they do on articles and their userpages, and Chinese space exploration and sports. Elockid (Talk) 22:17, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For a new user, he seems surprisingly knowledgeable about Wikipedia's policies and the history of the PRC's article. Also, he wants to remove the picture because it's too "aggressive" - exactly like Zonghuo (another sockpuppet) before him. Laurent (talk) 00:51, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The articles are similar to some extent. Polylepsis and socks have edited the articles Definitions of Tibet, Tibet Autonomous Region and Shanghai for example (see article histories). The edits on Tibet Autonomous Region looks to be a continuation of confirmed sock Energy consumption 2 (talk · contribs). Slap me if I'm wrong, but this account was registered on March 6th. There have been just short of a half-dozen CUs since then - surely this would've shown up? The last check was a few days ago. ~ Amory (utc) 04:16, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It could have been missed? There was one time when there was a socked that was missed, ConfuciusInstitute (talk · contribs) that hasn't been checked but quacks loudly. KnightLago performed a check on February 27th, but was created on February 21st. Some of the behavior does match though (editing Tibet articles) especially with the SUL creations of French and Chinese Wikipedias. The rapid creation on those Wikipedias are something that distinguishes him. This corresponds most to the report on February 28 2010, 21:41 (UTC). The two most recent socks should have been caught by checkuser as several checks were done. I'm assuming then that these are not socks as a result. Furthermore, most of the edits the suspected socks made are indeed Chinese related articles, but, out of the numerous socks we have to work with, only Liang Guanglie (talk · contribs) is the only one that comes close. Otherwise, most of the articles have been different in my opinion. There is another sockmaster though that I came accross that which can be found at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Johnwangxun which more likely represents the listed socks. As such, I am closing this case and doing a further investigation of the socks with relation to Johnwangxun. Elockid (Talk) 14:41, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk endorsed The target articles and behavior are similar. Also, you've been right about every sock so far including Tommy45 (talk · contribs) so there is a chance you're right. We haven't had a sleeper check in a while also. Considering that Polylepsis is a serial sockpuppeteer, there is a good chance we missed some other accounts. As a note the last sock suspected sock blocked was Jpggjpeg (talk · contribs) (not listed in this investigation) but was blocked per DUCK and for their own report on SPI (see deleted contribs). Suspected sockpuppets [edit]

Evidence submitted by Elockid [edit]

A piano in the floor is similar to socks like YellowPops (talk · contribs) and Toutvientapoint (talk · contribs) editing sports and Olympic pages mainly on China. Two of the articles, Sport in the People's Republic of China and China at the Olympics are pages that multiple Polylepsis socks edited. Like this other sock, Jpggjpeg (talk · contribs), he/she has interest in editing articles pertaining to the Himilayas.

Anand Bindra is similar to YellowPops and Toutvientapoint again.

Added The Dino Dude. Similarities in editing pages as other socks like BRIC country (talk · contribs) and Rédacteur Tibet2 (talk · contribs). Account is already created in French Wikipedia. Some socks do this like SebastienPoncet (talk · contribs) and PaxAmericana (talk · contribs). Elockid (Talk) 13:41, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk endorsed. This user has history of making multiple accounts and we haven't had a sleeper check in a while. Self endorsing for a sleeper check/check for missed accounts and for confirmation on those accounts. information Administrator note Blocked the listed accounts for sockpuppetry. --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 19:55, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted I assume the connection to Polylepsis could not be established because that account is  Stale. Could we instead, then, have a check against a more recently confirmed account like Adrianbius (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · spi block · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki)? I see similarities but having hard evidence would be nicer. --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 19:53, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • The technical evidence indicates Red X Unrelated to the last group of sockpuppets, which is why behavioral evidence must be used. -- Avi (talk) 21:47, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: I'm confident that that the accounts Avi listed are socks of Polylepsis. Behaviorally, they edit the same pages as Polylepsis and socks. Secondly, all accounts have already been created in French Wikipedia. See evidence listed in this report and past reports regarding French Wikipedia. Thirdly, abuse of multiple accounts. Polylepsis has long history of creating multiple accounts in both French and English Wikipedia. Again, see previous reports. For me at least, it's not surprising that there was confirmed and related multiple accounts editing the same types of pages as Polylepsis. I also believe that it's just to much to past off as a mere coincidence that we have a different user here based on what I said. Elockid (Talk) 14:08, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to check the following account: Splittist (talk · contribs). Similar articles being edited. That account is also created in French Wikipedia (what a surprise). I've recently blocked this new account Union Pilot 3 (talk · contribs) per WP:DUCK. If these accounts are related then it's possible to that there are more I missed. Elockid (Talk) 17:58, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

NyuclearTrigger has very similar characteristics as other Polylepsis socks. NyuclearTrigger was created just after a changing IP, which is in the same range as Polylepsis's changing IP, tried to add POV to the superpower article. The only edits NyuclearTrigger has made are the same attempts to add the same POV to the article. This the same kind of POV Polylepsis's socks usually add and the article is in the same catagory of articles which Polylepsis's socks usually target.
