Suspected sockpuppets

The registered user and the IP user have both submitted the same questionable content to several Nickelodeon channel-related articles and templates. The common content includes the repeated unsourced addition of "The Ruth P. McDougal Show" and the repeated unsourced addition of "Freddy and Friends".

  • The Ruth P. McDougal Show
1) From Rodolfootoya12
2) From Rodolfootoya12
3) From Rodolfootoya12
4) From 201.198.168.150
5) From 201.198.168.150
  • Freddy and Friends
1) From Rodolfootoya12
2) From 201.198.168.150
  • Freddy and Friends + The Ruth P. McDougal Show
1) From 201.198.168.150

A Google search for "The Ruth P. McDougal Show" results only in links back to Wikipedia pages (and Wikipedia "aggregators") that have been vandalized with this information. The rareness of this show title suggests it is probably coming from one person. These edits have appeared at Template:Nicktoons, Template:Nick Jr., Nicktoons, Template:Hey Arnold, O Entertainment, Snee-Oosh, Inc., List of programs broadcast by Nickelodeon and others.

IP appears to be used exclusively for pervasive vandalism, for example, here and here and here. Thanks. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:48, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Primary evidence is similarity in name between Rodolfootoya12 and Rodolfootoya30. User continues to submit bogus information to the same pages that Rodolfootoya12 edited Template:Nicktoons and Nicktoons. User also has created bogus TV show pages such as: SpongeBob SquarePants and Friends (as Rodolfootoya30) and The Ruth P. McDougal Show - (as Rodolfootoya12) (I believe the Ruth P. McDougal page was deleted by Materialscientist per my request. User Rodolfootoya12 was found to be making bogus submissions from 201.198.168.150. User has long history of disruptive edits and submitting fabricated information to various articles related to children's television. Some bogus information includes the addition of "the Ruth P. McDougal Show" and "Freddy & Friends" to various Nicktoons templates/pages, as well as the creation of a fake article for "SpongeBob SquarePants and Friends", an unreferenced show that was also added to various Nicktoons pages by blocked sockpuppet Rodolfootoya30. It's a duck! Similarity in names, and MO. Pablootoya19 (like Rodolfootoya12 and his various socks) makes edits centered around children's TV shows, particularly Nickelodeon shows. Here's an example of the introduction of Freddy and Friends again in the O Entertainment article. Here's an example of the user adding an unsourced claim of a 2016 T.U.F.F. Puppy movie to Template:Nickelodeon Movies. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:00, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

UPDATE: User recently added the non-existent TV show "The Miss Felter Show" to the Nicktoons article. "Miss Felter" is a character on the TV show Hey Arnold!, and so is "Ruth P. McDougal". Pablootoya19 and Rodolfootoya12 have both submitted fake TV show information centered around this show. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:28, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's a duck! User's name fits the format of the other socks. User is again editing articles related to children's television. User's MO is to create undocumented hoaxes about phony movies and TV shows he claims are slated for production. User sometimes copy/pastes references from other articles into hoax articles, attempting to slip them under the radar. In this series of edits the user tried to slip a bogus Variety.com link into the article, but it was caught by the eagle-eyed Mrschimpf. The hoaxer again gives the Snee-Osh! production company an unsubstantiated credit. Here's an edit where the user changes "Cancelled sequel" to "possible sequel". Thanks! It's a duck. Persistent vandalism and disruptive content being submitted by user behind this IP. User accounts continue to get blocked via ongoing sockpuppet investigations. Editor re-appears and disrupts, then gets blocked and resumes activity approximately 14 days later. Most edits involve hoax information submitted to children's television articles. In this most recent edit, user has submitted information that is likely accurate, but it is again unsourced, and editor has been warned for that numerous times across various sock accounts, and has been blocked before for persistent vandalism. Requesting long-term block. Here is the interaction report for all the socks and suspected IPs to justify a block on the basis of WP:DUCK. It would be nice if we could get additional eyeballs on this IP's future edits. Thanks. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 06:31, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like a duck to me! I don't know if there's an official way to go about requesting a range block, but I ran a check of the range 201.191.168.NNN and I see a number of edits from that range that seem to be centered entirely on vandalizing children's TV articles, or injecting hoax information about children's entertainment into other articles (List of Paramount Pictures Movies). Though granted, many of the edits are from a long time ago, I still think it demonstrates a persistent vandal who is IP hopping to continue being a timesuck. Examples:

I didn't cherry-pick these IPs from the list. I just took a look at each IP in order. I don't think I saw one edit that improved any article. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 01:31, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • It looks to me very much as if these IP addresses have been used by Rodolfootoya12, but whether that is so or not, it is 100% certain that these and other IP addresses in the range 201.191.168.0/23 have been used exclusively by one person for over a year, and that most of that person's edits have been disruptive. He/she has received numerous blocks on individual IP addresses, but that is completely ineffective, as he/she simply turns up on another IP address, so I have blocked the range. Costa Rican IP. Introduction of hoax information at Nickelodeon Movies, typical SpongeBob and Nickelodeon vandalism. In this edit for example, user adds guest stars to a table for the 2015 release SpongeBob 2, but uses a reference from 2004 as if to sneak a valid reference past undiscriminating eyes. San Jose, Costa Rica IP has made numerous submissions that are dubious, contain unsourced future assertions, or are otherwise problematic. "An red cat", unsourced other names, redlinking future event that doesn't satisfy basic requirements of inclusion in disambig (*something* must be bluelinked), assertion that Samurai Jack film will be released in 2016, but source does not support this, and neither does target content here. There are numerous problems. If I were to guess, based on the geographical region of Costa Rica, I'd consider Rodolfootoya12 as a potential sock operator behind these hoaxes. His MO is to hoax, particularly in the world of children's television, and he is pretty Costa Rica centric. I have reported this IP to AIV. I'm including it here as yet another potential sock, though I do not request CU in this case for obvious reasons. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 07:46, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yet another *-otoya sock. Poorly-written hoax proliferation in articles related to children's entertainment here and here (unsourced Dexter's Laboratory movie claims). Since I haven't seen an incarnation of this user in a while, I don't know if a CheckUser will be helpful, but maybe there are other accounts he's using? I've often suspected that he might be in cahoots with Gabucho181 because they're both from Central America and do similar nonsense. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:37, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've added an IP that I suspect of being Otoya's most recently used IP. In this edit, the Costa Rican IP edits about half and hour before Otoya edits, and we know that Otoya uses Costa Rican IPs. I'm including the IP for completeness, obviously not as part of my CU request. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:47, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Vanjagenije, On duck evidence alone, (similarity in name, addition of hoax content, specifically the introduction of fake movies into children's entertainment articles and templates as detailed in the sock archive and as recently added by Arturo, the proximity of the Costa Rican IP's edit to Arturootoya's edit at List of The Inspector cartoons) the user would normally wind up indeffed. I'm not sure what requirements must be met to check for sleepers, but if you feel they're not met thus far, then I suppose that's that. I'm not asking for a check against Gabucho (he uses IPs from Colombia), rather I'm including a mention in case it helps any other editors down the road. • Obvious similarity in name.
  • Edits in kid's television including Hey Arnold which was a previous area of interest well documented in the archive.
  • Snee-osh is another area of interest well documented in the archive. His recent edit summary: "David Feiss' first work on Snee-Oosh."
  • Rodolfootoya's English was poor, perhaps on account of being from Costa Rica. Jerry's English: "Mr. Do-Right we're gonna changing names." "Mr. Feiss as storyboard artista on upcoming Nicktoon."
  • Rodolfo was a prolific hoaxer. Space Goofs: The Movie, recently created by Jerry, was deleted for being a blatant hoax.
  • Here Jerry adds an unsourced future date with the unassuring assurance "February is real." And here with "Space Goofs: The Movie is real." (Also Space Goofs apparently isn't real...) This is highly reminiscent of many edits like this, where a sock makes an unsourced change with the assurance, "Trust me." See also: [3][4]
  • Also has a history of dicking around with David Feiss articles like here as a Costa Rican IP and here as Jerry.

  • More or less  Confirmed to TuroOtoya24 and some other obvious Rodolfootoya12 accounts. There are few people on these IP ranges, and I don't think any of them are Rodolfootoya12. For better or worse, my range blocks are probably keeping new accounts to a trickle. So, no obvious sleepers found, though I think it's usually worth a check.
