Suspected sockpuppets

I was helping out a bit on the CCI investigation of User:Uriahdan‎ and noticed some crossover with two other editors on the same articles (heavy metal music, in particular Kiss and Uriah Heep) and style (introducing direct copy-and-paste copyright violations from AllMusic). Uriahdan and Rubalieta are currently blocked for persistent copyright violations. Both Rubalieta and Dan Maiden edited a while ago, so I assume are stale for a CU, but it seemed worth looking into on behavioural evidence, if only to make possible future appearances easier to pick up.

As to evidence:

  • Usernames - the "Dan" combined with the band name in both Dan Maiden and Uriahdan
  • All three exclusively edited heavy metal bands
  • All three are heavily focused on creating articles about particular songs, using the same format.
  • Copy-and-paste copyright violations, with AllMusic being used as the source for copyvio in all three cases.
  • Writing styles - all three write without spaces for punctuation, and include unusual phrasing. For example, contrast the writing styles of Dirty Livin by Dan Maiden, Love Bites by Rubalieta, and All My Life by Uriahdan‎. In particular, the use of tense stood out: "has been written by", "has been released", as opposed to "was written by" and "was released".

Finally, there was crossover on articles: July Morning was edited by Uriahdan and Rubalieta ([1]), Dirty Living by Rubalieta and Dan Maiden ([2]), and Judas Priest discography for Uriahdan and Dan Maiden ([3]), amongst a few others. - Bilby (talk) 07:10, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Uriahqueen at least is looking to be very much a sock - same pages, same sources, same writing style, and similar username. - Bilby (talk) 18:24, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty transparent, writing style is a total giveaway. Blocked all accounts and IPs listed here (if they weren't already). – Steel 15:08, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Very similar behaviour to User:Rubalieta, or more specifically User:Uriahqueen & User:Uriahdan. The new article Sympathy (Uriah Heep's song) shows exactly the same unusual writing style, and the editor is editing the same articles, with the same sort of content and sourcing as that used by the previous socks. - Bilby (talk) 09:42, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The previous Rubalieta sock, User:Uriahqueen, was blocked on October 18, and User:Queenfanuriah started editing on the 30. Same exclusive area of interest - Uriah Head and Queen singles - with the same sourcing, apparent copyright violations, and a very similar username. However, the one that cemented the relationship was the creation of Sunrise (Sunrise (Uriah Heep's song), which shows the same writing style, including the "has been" phrasing. The article was a recreation of one previously created by an earlier sock, User:Uriahdan, at Sunrise (Uriah Heep song) (now a redirect). - Bilby (talk) 06:29, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's pretty clear, and he's not making much attempt to disguise himself. Major copyvio at Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath album) [4] indicative of the quality of his edits. Bretonbanquet (talk) 19:46, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • information Administrator note Yup,  Looks like a duck to me. He's even introducing himself with the same name on the user page. Blocked and tagged, will also make a report at CCI. Jafeluv (talk) 23:13, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets

A new editor, who started editing a little over two weeks after the previous sock was blocked. Went immediately to some of Rubalieta's preferred articles, and, as per the previous accounts, continues to exclusively edit for the same bands - mostly Black Sabbath and, from the outset, Uriah Heep. The username incorporates a reference to Uriah Heep, which is in common with the others, and the edits are completely in line with the actions the other accounts. However, the main sign is the unusual grammar - for example, in creating After Forever (Black Sabbath song) we get the rather unusual "... it has been released", which also shows up extensively in the edits of the other accounts, and occurs a few times with this one.
