Suspected sockpuppets
[edit]

Evidence submitted by Beyond My Ken
[edit]

The account listed is new (created June 22), but the two IPs have been editing for a while, and have both been blocked multiple times for various disruptive actions. This editor makes small but significant changes to biographical articles, usually in the infobox or the lede. He or she will make changes such as:

  • the cause of death (which is why this editor has been referred to as the "cause of death SPA")
  • the format of the date of birth
  • the middle name
  • "Jr.", "Sr.", "III", etc.

Their latest thing is to change the order of the subject's parents, so that the mother is always listed first, even if the father is the more notable of the two. Their focus is on "dynastic" families such as the Kennedys, the Roosevelt and the Chaplins. Their edits are particularly problematic because, without intimate knowledge of the details of these families, the changes made often appear as if the could be proper corrections. Such insidious quasi-vandalism is difficult to spot and fix unless you're right on top of their edits. If the editor were to provide sources, that would be helpful, but he or she never adds references and never provides an edit summary. Furthermore, the editor does not respond to inquiries and warnings on their talk page(s).

The editor has been the subject of a number of AN/I reports, such as [1], [2] and [3]. Beyond My Ken (talk) 18:00, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The subject's statement below does not address any of the issues raised, specifically his changing of difficult to run-down bits of information, and his claim that he was "hacked" is frankly incredible. The same behaviorial quirks are exhibited by both IPs and the current editor, there can be little doubt that they are the same person. Perhaps a CU is needed after all. See Defending yourself against claims.

I am sorry if I "unnecessarily edited" articles or forgot about citations and summaries. If I violated anything, then I apologize for that as well. I haven't left citations because I don't know how to. And sometimes I am unable to think of summaries for my edits. I primarily try to fix links so that the person clicking them doesn't get redirected to another page. It's probably just coincidence that I happen to edit certain things into certain ways. I don't know how another IP address was under my username, I probably got hacked at one point or another, I don't know.

That is all, I just wanted to make things clearer about the edits which apparently end up getting undone/reversed. And again, apologies for lack of citations, responses to comments left on my talk page, and edit summaries, as well as any "unnecessary edits" and violations that I may have made.

Me being hacked is incredible, you say? If I wasn't hacked, then I probably was just using more than one wireless network. Otherwise, I'm clueless. As for any issues raised, I really don't know what to say. But one thing is for certain- this is the ONLY account I have on Wikipedia. I don't think there's enough here to substantiate abusive socking, even if we assumed Thesomeone987 used those IPs. No action taken at this time. –MuZemike 21:14, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets

They are always logging in at the same time and focusing on only Kennedy family articles. They have been for over a year now replacing the names with fake names and removing cited family members as here and here. You can clearly see by just checking the history, myself and the other article editors have warned him to stop on his ip address and sock puppets but he just will not stop and when we warn him he immediately blanks his page and does not respond. The article was temporarily given auto confirmed editing privelages for a short time but he just came right back. He has also attempted blanking the article several several times as you can see here. ArleneCavendish (talk) 13:40, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have also managed to restore much of his talk page if he has not already reverted I will make an archival of it. As you can see it clearly shows malicious editing and warning from other administrators and editors. ArleneCavendish (talk) 20:26, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have also archived the User:Thesomeone987's talk page here in case he blanks it again for record of his behaviour. ArleneCavendish (talk) 20:47, 6 June 2013 (UTC) As you can see from whois as well, all of the ip addresses and accounts come from the exact same part of Virginia with the exact same service provider.[reply]

[edit]

My edits were in no way intended to be disruptive or vandalism. I was simply adding notes based on searches I found (and yes- I cited the information I found). I do sincerely apologize for any misunderstandings. As for blanking my talk page, I just always like to have the page empty and clean. However, it should be noted that I only started adding things to the family page this past April, and not for over a year. Thesomeone987 (talk) 17:48, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In response to this comment, I took a look at Thesomeone987's contribution history. His first edits were name changes on Kennedy articles, back in 2010—so nearly three years ago! —C.Fred (talk) 17:52, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I was referring to the main family page, not individual articles. Also, the "Jdm2000" account is not me. I admittedly do sometimes forget to log in before editing, but have no affiliation with that account. Thesomeone987 (talk) 17:57, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You are clearly in violation of Wikipedia guidelines, and judging from your past history after this has been raised before you show no effort at all of changing. It does not matter if you like a clean talk page, you just keep doing it to destroy proof of your malicious edits. I myself and many other editors on the Kennedy articles have continuously had to revert information you keep falsyfing. Not to mention the removal of cited family members, you continuoulsy replace them with members that are spelled incorrectly, and from edit history I see not indication of you trying to do otherwise.

The socketpuppet clerk will determine whether Jdm2000 is in fact you or not. And both of your accounts have made the exact same changes over the past year I could dig through and bring up a million other accounts you have created, this is against Wikipedia:Sock_puppetry. And when I myself or the other editors make an attempt to contact you about your edits, you do not respond, you simply blank your page and ignore us, and to be honest I do not feel like trying to work with you anymore. You are clearly trolling, if you think you can just come along and blank an entire Wikipedia article, I think you know very well what you are doing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ArleneCavendish (talkcontribs) 20:01, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In fact the the whois gives clear indication you are sockpuppeting all of your accounts and the ip addresses take the exact same average time to edit posts. You all clearly make the exact same edits as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ArleneCavendish (talkcontribs) 20:06, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would just add [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] The guy constantly screws around with other people's talk-page comments, making nonsensical alterations and edit-warring over them. He's gotten enough warnings. —Designate (talk) 22:41, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Whether you all believe me or not, I do apologize for the edits. No, I was not aiming to troll. The IP's 173.48.107.93 and 2602:304:CFAC:1CC9:F4B3:44A8:5B41:BB20 resulted from me editing at different locations without logging in (which was my error). The others listed are not me. If it helps, I could retire from editing altogether. It's obvious that there are better editors than me, but I was trying to add what I could find (namely things from peerage.com, carlanthony.com, and netsdaily), even if seen as invalid. Again, I am very sorry. Thesomeone987 (talk) 23:58, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You are clearly trying to troll wikipedia, and we do not need editors here like you, if you were truly sincerely sorry, you would respond to myself and the other editors when we try to discuss with you about your malicious editing and warring on your talk page, but you refuse to cooperate and work together with us. If you ask me user fails the Wikipedia:The_duck_test horribly. And judging by your past sockpuppetry investigations, this is not the first time this has occured or you have been confronted about it and you show no sign of changing. 71.114.167.249 (talk) 17:06, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk, CheckUser, and/or patrolling admin comments
[edit]
  •  Clerk declined - no evidence presented to justify a check on named account, and editor has confessed to using the IPs. Rschen7754 02:30, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • A couple of those IP addresses seem to be unrelated, rest may be related per the comment of Thesomeone. I see no correlation between thesomeone and Jdm in terms of behavior, and although they oftentimes edit the same articles their edits are dissimilar enough for me to close this case.
