Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

UniBrill01 was blocked earlier today for disruptive editing on Biafra-related articles incl. Biafra Republic Government in Exile (currently at AfD). Within two hours of the block, new account Promise2023 was registered and picked up the baton by editing Biafra Republic Government in Exile. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 17:46, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'll also mention new user Let'sGoThereNow here just in case; so far fairly innocuous editing, but on the same topics. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 05:35, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Just to be clear, the new user/account registered about a week ago but didn't edit until today.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:51, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is true, I missed that. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 05:33, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Clearly the same person as Let'sGoThereNow (talk · contribs). Editing on Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafra separatism topics only confirms it.

(They go by "Let'sUploadNow" on Commons.)

I doubt this is the only one. Given the case history, a CU check may be advisable. SuperMarioMan (Talk) 12:45, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm adding Leke23 (talk · contribs) based on this diff, where they suddenly appeared in order to reinstate one of LEN's reverted edits. Further, their partisan approach to the Biafra topic area is indistinguishable from LEN's. SuperMarioMan (Talk) 18:22, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Leke23 is now re-adding copyvio photos originally uploaded on Commons by Let'sUploadNow. At the foot of the Commons user talk page we find UniBrill01, blocked on en-wiki as a sockpuppet of UniBrill. SuperMarioMan (Talk) 19:32, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It is quite unbelievable that you can’t check IP and region of editors before making baseless conclusion. If anyone should be a suspect, it should some of you here editing deleting without substances, demonstrating clearly a special interest and bias opinion. Neutrality with fact is the key. It is important not to mislead the public because you have access to Wikipedia. Before you allege that leke23 is the same as any other editor here, you first do a thorough investigation. Investigate IP, region and even gadget used. Also investigate the creator of this list, the IP and region before making a bias assumption as clearly demonstrated here. Everything being edited about Ekpa are well sourced. Can we deal with fact and not individual opinion. Leke23 (talk) 20:03, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's curious how you seem to be objecting more to the specifics of the process than the allegation itself. And you're right, I can't "check [your] IP and region" before making the allegation – which is why I requested a CheckUser investigation as part of the case. That doesn't prevent me or others from applying common sense to link you to past accounts and reach the conclusion that you're a sockpuppet (which, if the quacking is anything to go by, you are). SuperMarioMan (Talk) 19:32, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fwiw, there's a Commons-user with a similar name and interest:Let'sUploadNow. Doesn't necessarily mean they need to get blocked on Commons. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:34, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Bbb23 and NinjaRobotPirate: (edit conflict) Having looked at it a bit more I think there's two sock farms mixed together here,

form one group of editors, Note the aggressive behaviour, the poor quality of English, the lack of understanding of policy (e.g. the repeated uploads of copyvio photos), the accusations that everyone who disagrees with them is a liar/biased etc.

And most of the accounts in the archive form the second. Note the username theme (largely based around contributing to wikipedia), the much better understanding of policy, and the user page similarity with similar wording about "growing wikipedia" [1] [2] etc.

Both sets of accounts are working together via some form of meatpuppetry to promote Simon Ekpa, e.g. an account from the first set of accounts adds some poorly worded content [3], an account from the second set of editors shows up to copyedit it [4]. One account is told off for trying to add a copyvio image [5] the second finds a properly licenced image to the article [6].

The article subject also seems to spend a lot of time on twitter telling people to go and edit his article to remove "lies and slander", so this could just be a bunch of people who've been canvassed here to make these edits [7] [8] [9] (this is just a small number of examples). 192.76.8.66 (talk) 22:07, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Same, effectively exclusive, focus on Simon Ekpa and Indigenous People of Biafra. Same manner of speaking, e.g. use of "kindly"--1st Contributor, UniBrill01, Mypippydoo; same POV/edit-warring (e.g., "Stop Adding [Ekpa's] name to IPOB History he has nothing to do with IPOB" (Ojadi Emeka); "Simon Ekpa is not a member of IPOB" (Mypippydoo)). Эlcobbola talk 14:12, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Added Licenced and WondersShallNeverEnd - confirmed on Commons, same focus on Simon Ekpa and 2023 Nigerien crisis and attempted WP:PROXYING ([10][11][12]) to add laundered copyvio of the former. Эlcobbola talk 13:30, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Clerk endorsed - to investigate the relationships between these accounts and check for others. Thanks, Spicy (talk) 23:32, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

 Confirmed:

Also,  Possible:

Behavioural evidence should be examined in this case as it is a noisy range with a lot of spammers and a few innocent, constructive editors. Mypippydoo is Red X Unrelated to the rest. --Yamla (talk) 11:58, 10 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

A certain endearing naïvity has caused my antennae to twitch. Sharing a topic Draft:Alkasum Abba and Alkasum Abba indicates collusion or block evasion. This led me to the sock master.

Courcelles alluded to multiple account use when they blocked the author of the draft. I think this is sufficient to request CU, despite the obvious diligence of Courcelles, who has obviously investigated this deeply already. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 07:10, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Spicy and Courcelles:, please see User talk:Peaxman#Proof of Innocence where the user makes a plea for a recheck. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 18:03, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Likely Same noisy range, same UA as the archive. Courcelles (talk) 10:46, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Blocked and tagged, closing. Thanks, Spicy (talk) 20:42, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

DUCK behavior re: Biafra and Simon Ekpa. Compare Fugabus with Licenced, a previous sock. CU requested for confirmation and sleeper check based on this sockmaster's recent activity EvergreenFir (talk) 14:57, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • The CU data indicates Fugabus is Red X Unrelated RoySmith (talk) 15:37, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • There isn't enough behavioral evidence here for me to be comfortable blocking in the face of an "unrelated" result. It is kind of hard to believe there's no connection, but Ekpa seems to be a fairly well-known figure in Nigeria, so I guess it's not completely implausible that multiple new editors would be interested in him. Anyways, if future edits make clear that a block is warranted (either for sockpuppetry or other disruption), feel free to do so. Closing. Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

This user's only edit has been to essentially duplicate an edit made by other sockpuppets which can be seen higher up on the talk page. Requesting CheckUser as this seems fairly obvious. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 04:59, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Vanjagenije: Ipob techie made this edit request on November 14, which I recognized as highly similar to this edit request by sockpuppet Ojadi Emeka (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · spi block · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki); note the similar language and almost the same links used. Based on the username, this user's COI with Indigenous People of Biafra is obvious, which this master has also demonstrated through multiple socks. •  Additional information needed - @TechnoSquirrel69: In order to facilitate and expedite your request, please provide diffs to support your case. Please give two or more diffs meeting the following format:
  1. At least one diff is from the sockmaster (or an account already blocked as a confirmed sockpuppet of the sockmaster), showing the behaviour characteristic of the sockmaster.
  2. At least one diff per suspected sockpuppet, showing the suspected sockpuppet emulating the behaviour of the sockmaster given in the first diff.
  3. In situations where it is not immediately obvious from the diffs what the characteristic behaviour is, a short explanation must be provided. Around one sentence is enough for this. Vanjagenije (talk) 22:39, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
