Wikipedia:WikiProject United Kingdom

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:UK)

Welcome to WikiProject United Kingdom! Some Wikipedians have formed a Project to improve and organise articles which relate to the United Kingdom. We are dedicated to improving these articles and if you would like to help, please add your name to the participants!

Project scope

[edit]

WikiProject United Kingdom was formed with the intent of improving articles and coverage related to the United Kingdom in a fair and accurate manner, with an emphasis on subjects with national significance. Editors are encouraged to also participate in the more regional and/or topic specific UK related projects listed below.

As of 27 November 2024, there are 43,542 articles within the scope of WikiProject United Kingdom, of which 242 are featured and 852 are good articles. This makes up 0.63% of the articles on Wikipedia, 2.17% of all featured articles and lists, and 2.1% of all good articles. Including non-article pages, such as talk pages, redirects, categories, etc., there are 148,030 pages in the project.

The following WikiProjects and task forces also deal with UK-related content:

Future developments

[edit]

It is expected that as this project grows we will be able to branch out into notice boards for the individual countries of the UK. It is intended that these will run alongside the main UK board.

Note that Wikipedians in Northern Ireland may also be found at Wikipedia:Irish Wikipedians' notice board.

UK public library online resources at home

[edit]

Most UK public libraries offer their members access to a wide range of online resources which can be accessed from any computer (e.g. at home or work, without having to physically visit the library). These can include The Times archive 1785-1985, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Oxford English Dictionary, 19th-century newspapers, Newsbank (current national and regional newspapers), Encyclopedia Britannica and more. They also usually offer further databases which are for in-library use only. Find your local library's website and look for "Online resources" or "24 hour library". You will need to join the library, and have a membership number, to use the online resources: some libraries allow you to join online.
