This page lists events, university courses and Wikipedia residencies that focused on improving medical articles.

Wikimedians in residence

A Wikipedian in residence or Wikimedian in residence (WiR) is a Wikipedia editor, a Wikipedian (or Wikimedian), who accepts a placement with an institution to facilitate Wikipedia entries related to that institution's mission, encourage and assist it to release material under open licences, and to develop the relationship between the host institution and the Wikimedia community.

Consumer Reports

From 2012-2018 Consumer Reports employed Lane Rasberry user:bluerasberry as Wikimedian in Residence. The major objective for the project was supporting medical professional associations and medical schools in sharing their knowledge in Wikipedia. Activities including adding key messages from public health campaigns to Wikipedia as statements matched to sources, training of medical students to edit Wikipedia in the Wikipedia:Wikipedia education program in medicine, and adding safety information of various kinds from Consumer Reports in Wikipedia articles. The project was supported by Wikimedia New York City.

Between May 2014 and February 2015, Cancer Research UK employed John Byrne as Wikimedian in residence in London, UK

From May 2014 to 2016 Cochrane employed Sydney Poore as Wikipedian in residence. Since 2016 their Wikipedian in residence is Jennifer Dawson.

Wellcome Collection

Wellcome Collection employed Alice White as their Wikipedian in residence between 2016 and 2017. From October 2017, Wellcome Collection's Wikimedian in Residence became a full-time member of the Digital Editorial team.

International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE)

Marium Umme Kulsum is the Wikipedian in residence for the ILAE Wikipedia Epilepsy Project.

HSE National Health Library and Knowledge Service (NHLKS)

In 2018, in partnership with National Doctors Training & Planning, the NHLKS employed Niall O’Mara as the first National Healthcare Wikipedian in Residence. In 2020 Conor Malone was appointed to the role.

National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)

In December 2021 the NIHR employed Adam Harangozó as Wikipedian in residence.

Netherlands Cancer Institute

As part of a longer residency at multiple places, the Netherlands Cancer Institute hosted a Wikipedian in residence between February and March 2014.
